Leah Rilke- Past (c)

The Wilds One Shot

Fatin had let everyone on the island in on Leah's secrets, of her lies, her affair, her hidden traumas that led to her being sent to the retreat. You knew everyone had secrets, it was expected from everyone, especially teenage girls but you didn't think that everything would come out so abruptly into everyone's knowledge.

Leah stormed off from the group and it was clear that she needed some space but that was until it had been a couple of hours and although you could see her sat on the cliffs edge, looking sullen, you needed to make sure that she was okay. You made your way up to the cliff and sat down next to her on the edge, not knowing how to brooch conversation but wanting the silence to fall away.

"Are you here to tell me how stupid I am for going after an older guy, or call me a whore?" She asked bluntly.

"Honestly Leah," you sighed. "I don't care that you fucked a guy almost old enough to be your dad, I don't care if you lied to him, pursued him, made yourself out to be a bit of a fool. I can't say I have ever done anything like that but I'm not innocent to any moral or legal sin- none of us are."

"What?"

"We're on a fucking desert island. We don't know if we are ever going to return to our lives, so what does it matter? In your old life, that does matter, that makes you a bit of a bitch, but here, there are no laws or even moral hierarchy. All we have is survival. So no, I don't care what you did, but I do care if you're going to mope around about it and not help out. Only then do I have a problem with you."

She looked up at you with teary eyes and an apologetic expression. She was struggling to accept that this may be her life now and see the line that forced her past to be just that, but you weren't about to let her get lost to that.

"Thanks, I guess," she whispered.

"Don't thank me. We've all done stupid things, most of us something illegal and most of us would have been considered arseholes in the world we lived in before, but here, well, here we can have a fresh start," you shrugged. "It might be the only good thing about being here."
