You stood opposite of your new fiance, smiling as you saw him. Charles Xavier had a special thing about him, he always knew exactly what to do and when to do it. Whether you fully believed him when he said he didn't read your mind or not, you liked to believe that he knew what to do since you were perfect for each other.

"Okay, trust me! Just calm your mind, love. I'll be right here. Havoc, you're gonna shoot beams at her." Charles instructed, standing behind Alex in his uniform. Your eyes widened, fear beginning to swell in your body.

"He's going to shoot at me?!" You exclaim, your hand reflexively reaching for the necklace you kept around your neck. Your mother's wedding ring hung from the chain, now accomponied by your new engagement ring. No one knew yet, not even Raven.

"Yes! But don't worry, your mutation is defense! You'll be completely fine!" Charles reassured, patting Alex on the back. It wasn't a secret he was nervous as well, his mutation had killed many before.

"O-Okay!" You shout, closing your eyes, focusing on deflecting and absorbing the blast. Alex created the blasts hurling your way.

Rocks and metal propelled from the ground over you. It was no use, the blasts broke through as though it was made of butter. "Charles!" You scream, moments before a red blast cut through your suit. Conciousness was lost nearly instantly, Charles agonizing screams filling your ears just before darkness consumed you.

----------

"It's my fault." Alex mumbled, watching his teacher pace your hospital room. You were still alive, but it was touch and go for a while now. Only a week had passed, but your mutation should have healed you faster than this.

"It is not your fault. It's mine." Charles persisted, his voice cracking with pain. The thought that he did this to you was unbearable, you're the love of his life.

"Professor X, I really don't think so." Alex began, running his hands through his hair. "It wasn't your bolts."

"You didn't want to do it. I knew it was risky. I may have just killed the one person I've truly loved.." He drolled on, whispering to himself. A nurse walked into the room, her white uniform distracting the two men.

"She's doing quite well, Mr. Xavier. I don't think placing blame is going to help her." She told them, walking over to take your vitals. Charles glanced at Alex, his eyes welling with tears as he remembered Raven was coming that day.

"I-I need to go. Find me if anything happens, please." Charles told them, leaning over your head. He pressed his lips to your skin, a tear sliding down his cheek onto your forehead. "I'll be right back, darling." He whispered, slowly leaving the room.

---------

Charles sat on a bench outside the hospital, rain pooring from the skies. Sobs racked out of his body as he sat alone, dripping wet with rain water.

"Charles!" A voice called, piercing through his bubble of depression. Sputtering and choking on tears and rain, Charles looked over to see Raven.

"Raven." He choked, trying to wipe his eyes for no good reason. It was just a thing to do, no one ever wants anyone to see them crying. His breath's were uneven, his eyes beginning to swell.

"Oh my god." Raven gasped, falling to her knees opposite to him. He looked into her eyes, feeling the warmth and security his sister brought with him. "Is she?.."

"What?" Charles asked, the thoughts of you lying dead inside the hospital flooding his mind. He knew it wasn't true, someone would have gotten him.

"Is Y/N dead?" Raven gaped, wrapping her brother in her arms. Charles shook his head, stuttering a laugh from his lips.

"No, no. She's alright. I just haven't cried since I hurt her, since I destroyed her." Charles rambled, tears spilling from his eyes again.

"Is there anything I can do, Charles?" She asked, moving away to look him in the eyes. He shook his head again, coughing as some water ran into his mouth.

"You wouldn't understand, Raven. You haven't almost lost the one you gave your heart to. She'll make a beautiful bride.." Charles began to stare off into the distance, his mind trailing off.

"Bride? You're getting married?! Awe Charles!" Raven exclaimed, momentarily getting excited before she returned to somberness. Now was not the time, no matter how much he probably needed it.

"I asked her nearly two weeks ago, she said yes." Charles smiled, standing up from the bench. He opened the hospital door, standing in the doorframe for what seemed like hours. Emotions froze him like a mosquito in amber, his pulse slowing as he held his breath. He would have stood there for days if Raven hadn't put a hand on his shoulder, leading him inside.

Charles sat at your bedside again, laying down as comfortably as he could in the chair. Your hand was in his, your engagement ring now placed on your finger. "Raven's here." Charles spoke, breaking the silence. "She wants you to wake up too, everyone does. Please, I can't live without you."

-----------

It took another week before you finally opened your eyes, taking in the room around you. Charles lay snoring in a chair, Raven across the room reading a magazine. "Charles." You whispered, gently flexing your stiff fingers. Your fiance stirred, his icy blue eyes cracking open.

"Y/N." He grinned, swiftly moving from the chair to the bed. "I was beginning to fear I'd lost you."

"Oh you won't get rid of me that easily." You joke, softly laughing. An oxygen mask was over your face, keeping Charles from being able to press his lips to yours and never let go.

"I'm so sorry I did this to you. You're healing well and won't have scars due to your mutation, but we nearly lost you, I nearly lost you. I'm so incredibly sorry." He rambled, stopping when you squeezed his hand harder than before.

"Just shut up, Professor Xavier." You sigh, a smirk forming on your lips. Charles laughed, gently squeezing your hand back.

"I love you so much, so so much."

"I can't wait for us to get married."

"Really soon, Y/N. Really soon."
