"Charles! Charles!" You scream, sitting up in bed, your hands wrapped around your swollen stomach. You were six months pregnant, always alert and anxious about your baby. Charles had taken time away from the lab to spend it with you, working primarily from his desktop.

"What?" Charles asked, walking into the bedroom with a glass of water for you. That had been your usual command since you felt ill today.

"The baby isn't moving! I felt a little movement earlier but now they're not! Charles, what if the baby?.." You ramble, stopping once he placed a gentle hand on your stomach. You took a deep breath, smiling as you saw your stomach move. You felt the kick inside of you, Charles grinning as he looked up.

"They're always just fine. Babies settle down and ours seems to be relaxed. You won't always feel movement. Again, if you don't feel movement for two days, talk to me then." Charles repeated from memory, having said this speech many times before.

"Okay.. okay.." You say, looking down at your rounded belly. You smiled, happy your baby was perfectly fine.

"Let's lay down and nap, come on." Charles whispered, taking off his shirt so he was just in sweatpants and laid down. He looked over at you with big puppy dog eyes, begging for you to join him. Relieved, you joined him, grinning as his he wrapped his arm as far as he could around your waist. His hand couldn't make it to the top of your swollen stomach, so it rested on the side.

The next day, you finally took his advice and didn't bother him about the baby not moving. But, when the day became night, you began to panic again. You swallowed your panic and stayed beside Charles all night, unable to fall asleep.

"OW!" You yell, sitting up as fast as you could. Charles shot up, knocking things off the nightstand as he fumbled for the lamp switch. His hand rested on top of your stomach, his other turning the light on.

"What's going on? What's wrong?" He asked, panic unable to stay out of his voice no matter how hard he tried. You sighed in relief, laying back down on the bed.

"There was a-a sharp pain. Then they started kicking. It hurts like the first time they kicked." You explain, reaching your arms up, welcoming him to lay with you.

"Mind if I make sure everything's okay? Can I rest my head on the baby bump?.." Charles questioned, scooting himself down on the bed. You nodded, running your hands through his soft, dark hair as he listened to the baby's heartbeat. Both of you couldn't stop grinning, happy you would one day soon have a child.

----------

When you were eight months pregnant, the baby stopped moving a few hours before your body erupted in pain. Charles had just gotten home from the lab, ready to relax and enjoy the night. But with a pregnant wife and a very calm unborn child, relaxation was merely a dream.

"Charles! Why why whyyyy is this happening??" You scream, startling Charles off of his chair. He ran over, sitting beside you as you laid down on the couch. He placed both hands on your stomach, smiling slightly as he felt the baby move.

"I read about this. It's false labor, I know you know about that. I guess when the baby settled down, the pains decided to come. It's alright love." Charles told you, holding your hand as you felt a few more pains before it settled down. The baby kicked you hard as if to say 'haha mommy!'

"I can't wait till the little troublemaker is born." You say between your teeth, giving your husband a death glare. "This is your fault."

"Alright alright, I'll take the blame for this one." Charles joked, knowing much better than to argue with a heavily pregnant woman. You continued to glare, waving him off as you tried to turn your back. Your stomach was too swollen for you to comfortable face the couch with your back to him, so you were forced to remain on your back.

"Not much longer.."

"Not much longer." He said, kissing your forehead before returning to making dinner.

----------

A month later, you nearly broke Charles' hand and brain with your screams in pain. After nearly 48 hours of labor, you gave birth to a healthy baby boy. James Xavier was welcomed to the world, his quiet and calm nature thankfully sticking with him. He was so calm, nurses even became concerned that he wasn't breathing right.

"Told you he was just calm." Charles muttered, James wrapping his small hand around Charles' finger. You rolled your arms and adjusted yourself a little with the baby.

All three of you were on your hospital bed, Charles on his side at the edge. He rested his head on one of his hands, propping himself up on his elbow. You couldn't get enough of the infant in your arms, almost forgetting your husband was next to you at all.

"Guess it really was just his nature." You agree, watching intently as he interacted with his son. It was quite an adorable sight, you never imagined he would naturally be this good off the bat.

"Well, I think it could be to our benefit." Charles added, kissing your temple. You smiled wider, nodding in agreement. Both of you were lost in each other and your newborn, the happiness of being a family overwhelming. There was nothing else to worry about.
