Chapter one
"Wake up" my sister Grace says while throwing a pillow at me. I moan and role over to look at her.
"What?"
"It's seven o'clock! We gotta leave!"
"We don't have to be there till nine." I role back over facing the wall.
"I see no problem in being early!" she pulls the covers off me then turning on the lights. "Get up!"
"Fine." I mumble rolling off my bed onto the floor and attempt to get my feet under me. I am not a morning person. Grace is still standing in the room containing her laughter.I shoot her look of annoyance.
"We leave at eight" she skips out of the room too cheerfully. Grace is my older sister. Although she can be a real bitch I still love her.
As I stumble into the kitchen mum is cooking what seems like eggs (she can't cook, but that doesn't stop her from trying). Grace motions for me to sit down next to her and scoots a mug of coffee towards me. I take a sip and hand it back to her.
"Thanks"
"Are you excited for your first day at a bording school?"
" I wouldn't use the the word 'excited'."
" don't worry you'll be fine. I'll be looking out for you." She gives me a reassuring smile to then glance over at the clock on the radio. "It's 7:30. Do you have everything packed?"
"Almost"
"As in 'almost' you mean you barley have glanced at your suitcase?"
"Yup"
"Well then hurry up. If you're not in the car at eight I'm leaving you here."
"Don't worry I'll be ready" I walk back into my room and slide my suitcase out from under my bed and set it out starting to toss a few shirts and jeans into it. I pick up a necklace from the bottom of the drawer that had been exposed from me taking practically every outfit I own and shoving it into a case. The necklace was given to me by my dad. He's been gone for three years now, but the memory is still fresh. A tear streaks my cheek and I quickly brush it away when I here someone walk into my room. It's Grace. "What is it?"
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Do you need something?"
"No. I just came to see if you need any help."
"I'm okay. Thanks" I walk over to my suit case and start sorting out everything in it making sure I don't leave anything behind.
"Well I'll be in my room if you do need anything." She leaves the room closing the door behind her.
I do a double take on everything before I zip the case up and drag it out of my room to the car that is blasting out the song wanted by bon jovi (Grace loves classic rock). I walk to the back of the car and toss my suitcase on top of my sister's, and hop into the passenger's seat next to Grace. I reach to turn the music down, but to only get it slapped away.
"Driver gets to touch the radio. Passenger just gets to ride along"I role my eyes. She says that all the time. "You have everything?"
"Yup"
"Sure?"
"Sure." Grace starts driving the school
"Piece of sisterley advice: don't make principal Fury pissed"
"Fury? Is that the guys real last name or was it given by the students?"
"no joke. It's the dudes name. Guess God has a sense of humor" she laughs at her own joke and is disappointed to see me barley smirk. "Are you seriously still worried about school? Don't worry. Just make some friends and you'll be fine"
"Well thats just it." I cross my arms "I'm not exactly good at making friends"
"C'mon you've had a friend before." She pauses to think for a second. "What about the girl you had PE with in middle school"
"She was the one that started the roomer that I snogged that Harrison kid"
"She was the one that did that!?"
"Yup."
"Bitch"
"Yup, it's okay I'll find somebody to tolerate..."
"Most positive thing you have said today!" She says jokingly.
The rest of the ride was relatively quite. Excluding the times when a song that Grace knows all the words to came on and she breaks out into song.
As we enter the parking lot I gaze out the window at the huge multiple building school.
"What do you think?"
"It's huge" Grace smirks at me.
" that's what I said. As big as it is though It's not hard to find your way around" once Grace finds a parking spot we both get out of the car and walk to the back meeting each other as we get our cases and start making our way to the registry area. Since we got here an hour before we were suppose to be here there was barley anyone here, well Besides a large family of all gingers. I suppose Grace knew them on the being that right when she caught eyes on them she dragged me over to meet them.
"Hey Grace!" Ginger one says.
"Grace! Have a fun summer!?" Asked ginger two that looked exactly like ginger one... must be twins.
"It was great thanks,George" Grace says to ginger two or 'George'
"I'm not George."
"All it takes is one summer and you all ready forget our names" says ginger one
"Oh sorry Fred." So ginger two is Fred?
"Just kidding. I am George." Says ginger two which is George? Ginger one is Fred. I can't but help have a confused look on my face, Grace on the other hand just roles her eyes at the two. She must be used to their sort of humor. She then goes on to hug the woman that most likely is the mother of them all then proceeds to greet ginger three a small boy then to ginger four a small girl. Once Grace remembers I'm still there she finally introduces them to me.
"Samantha, this is Fred" she motions to ginger one "George" ginger two "Ron" ginger three "Mrs. & Mr. Weasley" the mother and father of all of them "Percy" the oldest of the gingers "and Ginny" ginger four. It's going to be difficult to remember all their names. How dose Grace manage?
Once Grace is finally done catching up with the gingers I drag her to the registration desk. Seated behind the desk is a kind looking man in a seemingly expensive suit surrounded by boxes of papers that hold the dorm, locker, and schedule information for every student.
"hello. I'm vice principal coulson" he holds a hand out for Grace and I to shake. I take it responding to him.
"Smantha McThomas" Grace then takes his hand to shake.
"Grace McThomas"
"It's very nice to meet the two of you." He reaches into a box that has all the information with the kids who's last names start with M. Once he finds our paper work he hands it to us indicating the building our dorms are located at.
"Thank you" Grace and I say at the same time then we start walking towards building B.
"Unfortunately, Sam (a Nickname Grace has given me) you won't be bunking with me" she says jokingly.
"What's your room number?"
"105B"
"215B" two= floor number, fifteen= room number, B= building letter.
As we enter the building Grace says bye to me (her room is on level one) and I step into the elevator. I hear a boy not to far off shouting "could you hold the elevator, please?" I place my foot in the way of the door to keep it from closing. When the boy is in the elevator he smiles at me "thank you. Most people would of let that close."
" It's a good thing I'm bot most people then. Why were you in such a rush?"
"Oh. It's my sister Harriet. She's very scheduled when sober." I nod slightly then sticking out my hand for him to shake.
"I'm Samantha McThomas" he takes it.
"John Watson"
"Nice to meet you John."
"And you. It's my first year here. I'm a sophomore."
"It's my first year here also, and I just so happen to be a sophomore too."
"Cool." The elevator door opens and we both step off.
"I'd better be heading to my room. See you in later."
"Yea. See you later" my room is only three doors down from the elevator while John's is the last one in the corridor 221B. I enter the dorm taking in the sight. It was a rather small room with two beds, two small wardrobes, a desk, and a night stand placed in between the beds with a lamp set on top of it. I choose the bed farthest from the door then start taking things out from my suitcase and tossing them into drawers or putting them on hangers. When I'm done a pick up a book that I set on the nightstand and flop onto my bed and start reading.
At about ten a girl wearing a black leather jacket over a red tank top with ginger hair about to her shoulders came in catching me off guard.
"I'm Lilian" she says while walking over to her bed tossing her duffle bag to a corner of a room then plopping down on her bed. "Guess we are roommates"
"I'm Samantha."
"Nice to meet you Sam." I wasn't used to anyone else than Grace calling me Sam.
"Nice to meet you Lily." She smirks at me.
"So. your first time here?"
"Yea. How about you?"
"It's my second year."
"How do you like it?"
"It's okay." She gets off her bed and starts unpacking her duffle. We spend the next twenty minutes in silence. I decide to go take a look around campus so I get up and start walking out of the room. "I'm going to take a look around. You're are welcome to come along."
"I'm okay thanks. I think I'll just hang out here for a while." I nod and continue to walk out the room closing the door behind me.
As I walk around campus I spot out Grace talking to the ginger twins again. I feel out of place here... it seems like everyone has already established their group of friends and I'm just a loner. I walk over to a bench that has a dark haired boy with sharp cheekbones sat at one end of it. "Is this seat taken?" I ask as I motion to the empty sweet beside the boy.
"No." He says barley glancing at me. I sit down next to him.
"I'm Samantha."
"Sherlock Holmes" this time he looks me up and down as if trying to gather up information about me. I shift awkwardly in my seat.
"So... is it your first year here?" I say in attempt to clear the uncomfortable silence.
"No." Is all he replies back.
"Well it's my first year here." I turn my head away from Sherlock to look at everyone else walking back and forth from building to building.
"I know." He's still looking at me.
"Okay then..." I'm officially weirded out by this guy.
"The map in your pocket."
"Sorry?"
"You have a map in your right pocket. I saw you looking at it quite intensely when you came out of building B. Most likely have a map because it's your first year here. Your sister is the one over there talking to the twins. it's her third year here. Your mother is in her early thirties. Widowed. Your father died when you were 12. After that you went through a brief time of depression. Most likely because you blamed yourself for his death. Your greatest fear for this school year is that you will still be caught in the shadow of your older sister like you have your whole life. Now tell me did I get anything wrong?" He says barley stopping to take a breath.
"Um... no." I look at sherlock confused at how he knew all of that "Care to share how you know all of that?"
He smirks before speaking again "before you came to sit down next to me you looked over in the direction of the three talking over there. Obviously you aren't related to the gingers. Your hair is a dark brown. But you do share some characteristics of the girl they are talking too. Like the almond shaped eyes, hair color, the way you are built. I know it's her third year here because I saw on your wrist you wrote her room number along with your room number so you wouldn't forget. Most of the Jr. Are on level one in building B. That's also how I Kew you went through a time of depression I would see a faint scar on your wrist that was not an accident." He hands a picture to me of my family that I had tucked next to the map in my jacket pocket. He pick pocketed me. "Yea I pick pocket people when I'm bored." I take the picture from him and place it back in my pocket. "The picture has a date on the back. December 12, 2014. Your father isn't there. If it was a divorce then why is there a picture of him in the background? Because it wasn't a divorce, but an unexpected death. Your mother looks as if she's in her early thirties. I knew your greatest fear of this school year because Most younger siblings are in the shadow of the older." He looks at me waiting to see my facial expression.
"Wow." He smiles as if pleased with himself. Not many people know about my past, and this kid found everything just by looking at a me...
"Pleasure meeting you" he stands up and walks away. Grace practically comes out of nowhere and sits down next to me.
"So you've met sherlock."
"Yea."
"He's a prick isn't he?"
"You don't like him?"
"No way. He's an ass that comes up to you and already basically knows everything about you. So much for privacy."
"I don't think he's that bad." I don't want to be too quick to judge sherlock. I've just met him and although he knows practically everything about me I still don't know anything about him.
"Not yet anyway. Sherlock is just as bad as his older brother mycroft" I shrug. "So who's your roommate?"
"A girl named Lilian"
"Never heard of her... My roommate is a girl named Amy Pond"
"Cool."
"Are you okay? You seem awfully quiet today" why dose she keep asking me if I'm okay!?
"Yea I'm fine."
"Tomorrow we start school so you can carry up on all your nerd stuff. That always seems to perk you up" She says jokingly. I role my eyes. "Made any friends yet?"
"I've met a kid named John Watson. His dorm is just down the hall from mine."
"See. Told you you would make friend quickly" I've barley talked to the kid, but it's a start. We hear eye of the tiger blasting out from a 1967 Chevy impala that just drove into the parking lot and two boys hop out. One with light brown hair spiked up slightly with beautiful green eyes and the other one younger with dark brown hair a few inches above his shoulder and chocolate brown eyes. Both were well built. I could sense Grace checking out the older boy. As they walk towards us duffle bags slung around their shoulders they stop a few feet away from Grace and I.
"Do you two happen to know where we are suppose to register?" The younger boy asks because the older is now also checking out my sister.
"Yea. It's right over there." I motion to the desk that still seats Vice principal Coulson.
"Thanks..." he says wanting to know my name.
"Samantha"
"Thanks Samantha. I'm Sam, and this is my brother Dean."
"This is my sister Grace."
"Well it's nice to meet you"
"Yea. See you around?"
"Yea" Sam and I both nudge our older siblings to get them to stop flirting then Sam and Dean walk away.
"He was cute." Grace says watching dean walk away. I role my eyes. "And there's two of them. The older one for me and the younger for you."
"I'm okay thanks." I role my eyes. "Grace, I don't mean to burst your bubble... but when have you ever even had a boyfriend?"
"I'm just waiting for the right guy"
"Sure... also a guy to actually ask you out."
"Shut up" she says jokingly. After chatting for a bit Grace takes me over to meet Fred and George.
After Grace is done introducing me to the ginger twins I head back up to my dorm accidentally bumping into a young boy both of us fell to the ground. He was about my hight with short black hair and slightly visible cheek bones.
"Sorry" we say at the same time. He helps me stand back up.
"I should of watched where I was going" he says politely.
"As should I" I say smiling at the boy. He holds his hand out to me.
"I'm Merlin by the way." I Shake his hand.
"I'm Samantha. Nice to meet you Merlin." He smiles at me.
"Well I better be off. I still haven't registered. See you around?"
"Yea. Bye." We both go off in the directions of our destinations. Once I get on the elevator I run into sherlock again. "Hey sherlock."
"Samantha."
"Fancy seeing you again" I press the level two button.
"Yes." He pulls out a phone from his pocket and starts texting someone. I am now left in another awkward silence. Once the elevator doors open again sherlock and I both step out and he walks to the end of the corridor. He must have room 221B with John. I walk back into my dorm. Nat is right where I left her, but now she has a note pad in her hand and seems to be scribbling down something. I walk over to my bed and sit down glancing at the clock. It's 1:40.
"Who do you think sherlock is rooming with?" Lily asks me not looking up from her note pad.
"I saw him walk into room 221B and that's the same room John Watson has"
"John Watson? Never heard of him. He must be new."
"Yea. I just met him on the elevator up before I met you. What are you doing?"
"A friend and I every year like to document who's rooming with who." I shrug.
"Okay..." I'm slowly learning not to question what Lily dose in her free time.
I pick my book up from beside my bed and lay back starting to read. About thirty minutes later we get a knock on the door. Lily springs up from her bed placing her note pad on the night stand walking to the door opening it revealing a blond haired boy spiked up slightly wearing a black shirt with a bow an arrow design on it.
"Hey Lily!" The boy says.
"Nathan!" Lily says hugging the boy then pecking him on the lips. I awkwardly sit on my bed trying to put all attention to my book. Lily invites Nathan in and that's when I put down my book and sit up smiling at the boy. He holds his hand out to me. "Nathan Barton" I shake his hand.
"Samantha McThomas. Nice to meet you"
"And you" he turns his attention back to Lily and I turn mine back to my book. After a while of them catching up with each other They eventually leave and I'm left in the room all by my self. Peace and quite... until Grace burst in without knocking.
"Sam!" She says excitedly.
"Grace." I say mockingly not looking up from my book.
"You remember those two guys that asked us where the registration desk was?"
"Yup"
"Well the older one asked me for my number"
"And what? You forgot what yours was so you gave him mine?"
"No." She says offended. " I gave him my number..."
"Good for you" I don't really care about Grace 's guy business, but I allow her to go on talking about it.
"You have any crushes yet?" She asks me.
"Nope" I barley know anyone to have a crush.
"What about Dean's younger brother? Sam."
"He's attractive, but not my type."
"Who's your type then?" I shrug.
"I don't know." If I'm gonna have a boyfriend then he has to be smart and handsome. Which is surprisingly difficult to find some one like that now a days.
Grace and I talked for a while then she left and I was alone in my room again. I got bored of reading so I took out my iPod and turned on some of my favorite type of music, classic rock. Grace introduced it to me when I was nine and I have been hooked ever since. After a while I even got bored of listening to music. I need to find more hobbies. After a while of questioning the meaning of life. It was finally supper time. I left building B not sure where the cafeteria was and I forgot my map in my coat that I left in my dorm room. Just my luck. Then I spotted a girl with dark brown hair just below her shoulders wearing a red dress right above her knees she looked like she knew where she was going so I went up to her and asked. "Hey. Do you happen to know where the cafeteria is?"
"Yea. It's right this way I can take you there if you like."
"That'd be great, Thanks. I'm new here so I'm not quite sure where everything is."
"That was me last year. Don't worry you'll get the hang of it."
"That's good to know. I'm Samantha Thomas."
"Clara oswald" we shake hands and continuing walking to the cafeteria creating small talk every once and a while. Once we reach our destination the cafeteria was packed with students. none I recognized. Clara went to go sit with some of her friends and after I got my food I looked for an empty seat, and the only one available was a completely empty table except for one seat taken by a boy with dark brown hair that hung into his face. He had a prosthetic arm with a red star painted on it. I walk over to the table sitting down at the end of the table. When the boy looked at me I smile at him. He didn't exactly look mean... he just looked like he preferred to keep to him self. "I'm Bucky" he says in a low but soft voice.
"Samantha" we both go back to eating in silence. Until the silence is broken by John as he walks over to the table I'm seated at dragging sherlock along behind him.
"Hey Samantha!" John says sitting down next to me sherlock then taking the seat in front of me.
"Hey John, sherlock." Sherlock and Bucky stay silent while John and I break out into conversation. John is a kind kid. I've only known him for a few hours and he already treats me as if we have been friends for years. Later on a boy named Chris he was nicely built with blond hair combed back sees Bucky and immediately comes to sit next to him joining in the conversation and enrolling Bucky in it as well. Then a boy named Matt who wore a red bowtie with tweed jacket and elbow patches joins us. I saw Sam awkwardly sitting next to his brother while dean was arguing with Grace and some of her friends so I invited him to sit with me and everyone else. I learned quite a lot about everyone like Matt plans on travelling when he is older, Chris is a long descendent of the super soldier captain Steve Rogers, John has a blog on the internet that he plans on talking about all the things he dose this school year, and Sam plans on just going to school and later on becoming a lawyer. As the night progressed sherlock stayed very quite only jumping in the conversation to correct someone's grammar. When supper was finished we all walked back to our dorms together (all our rooms were on the same floor except for Bucky his room was on level three, and his roommate was Merlin the boy I ran into earlier). I said goodbye to everyone and entered my room. Nat was already asleep. I changed into my pajamas and plopped down on my bed reading a bit before I went to sleep.

PS. The kid named Chris is actually the great nephew of Steve Rogers. (I'll go into it more later on in the fic)
