You've Got a Whole Summer Ahead of You

~Jae's POV~

"Stay safe, alright sweetheart?" My mom said while I was headed to the door.

"Yep, got it." I turned around and gave her a quick hug, "Love ya, bye."

"Love you too, hun."

I got out of the car and checked to make sure I had everything in my bag. Clothes, check. Pajamas, check. Phone and earbuds, check. Deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, money, makeup, converse, underwear, bras, check. My own personal collection of dank memes, check.

I headed to the lodge to check in. I saw a couple people who looked interesting, a girl with purple hair who wore a CaptainSparklez t-shirt, a quiet kid wearing a Panic! At The Disco tee, and a scene girl who looked like she was about to rawr at someone. Dear god, I thought those were taken out in 2010. You don't have to tell me twice to stay away from her.

"Name?" I was taken out of my thoughts by the counselor who was checking in all the campers.

"Uh, Jae Raines," I told her. She looked up something (probably my name) on her computer and smiled.

"Alright, you're in Cabin 93 with Victoria, Halle, Emma, Hailey, Kat, Bree, and Nix. Any of those sound familiar?" She asked me. I shook my head. "Do you need any help getting to your cabin?"

"Directions might be nice," I replied. She chuckled and handed me a map. "Thanks Ms..." I looked at her nametag, "Larson."

"You're welcome dear, now go get unpacked. You've got a whole summer ahead of you."

I walked into Cabin 93 and was met with complete silence. Perfect, no one was here yet. I could blast my music as loud as I wanted, well, as loud as I wanted without Cabin 94 hearing, but they were a good 10 yards away so I doubted they'd really hear it.

I set my bag on a top bunk in the corner and pulled out my phone. I realized I couldn't really blast my music because I hadn't brought my speaker, but that was okay, as long as I could hear it I was fine.

I shuffled all my music and Turn It Off by Paramore began playing. I really didn't know what to unpack or where to put anything, other than shampoo, conditioner, and deodorant in the bathroom. They had tiny little bottles of body wash, one for every person in the dorm.

I walked back to the main area of the rather small cabin and picked up my phone. I laid back down on my bunk and looked through my bag. All that was left was my clothes, makeup, converse, and money. I decided just to put the straps of my bag over the bedpost and scroll through social medias while I waited for the other kids to get here. The sound of the cabin door opening pulled my eyes away from my scrolling.
