Furby Tinker | Worm | Snip/WIP

It was kind of cute, in a fish-eyed, soulless sort of way. It definitely would have had the potential to appear in my nightmares before I got my power, but actually tinkering the thing and seeing it come to life was different from examining it from an outside perspective. In a strange, kind of icky way, I was its mother. Or life bringer. I much prefer the term "creator"; it's less awkward than having the thing thinking it was my child.

I still didn't trust the mechanical creature enough to put my hand near its face, however. Something in me told me that this thing was a predator- front facing eyes aside- and I know just how strong that jaw I gave it can be.

I set down the long, centipede-like creature onto the desk. Originally I had been planning on doing something more basic with it- something a non-tinker could do, really. Like a prototype of storts. A spine, a "skull", stuffing, and an outer layer of fur. Like a slightly mechanical plushie. But actually trying to hold back from tinkering on something was extremely hard, harder than promising myself that I would.

Thus I was left with a 6-foot long, robotic, furry creature. With googly eyes. And multiple rows of stumpy legs that ended in small, cat-like paws, without the retractable claws. For some reason I felt that it needed eyelashes… definitely a beak, too. Then it'd be complete.

I still only partially restrained myself. My power was burning for me to make more additions to the thing. It took a lot of self control to not add multiple eyes to the creature.

It was a disturbing part of my power. It was almost like it wanted me to make some sort of eldritch abomination, some kind of amalgamated horror.

I ran my hand through the soft fur of the creature. The furby, I knew instinctively it's name was to be. The very long furby. I was inspired by a toy line that was discontinued a few decades ago. I mean, I had already known I was a robotic tinker by then- it was just that, seeing images of that line sort of inspired me. Like I knew, deep within, I had to absolutely make one of them… but better. More advanced.

Not any less creepier, unfortunately.

I don't know if it's the same with other tinkers, but sometimes I have this blueprint. A concept, in my head, and a list of potential parts I may need to make it. It's all in a very nonsensical, unscientific way that made no sense at all- for example, the furby had no voice box. However…

"Wee-tah-kah-loo-loo! Wee-loo! Weeeeee!"

I winced as the thing opened its lipless maw and screeched out a string of sounds. Excited ones. It writhed in joy, completely contradicting its lifeless, uncaring eyes. I don’t remember programming that into the robot, and I certainly don’t even want to think about the possibility of it somehow being organic in some way or another.

It was getting louder with each holler, however, and soon passerby will get curious about the unholy sounds coming from my house. I pulled out a scrap piece of cloth that was discarded in the process of making it “skin”, and shoved it into its mouth to muffle the noise. It wriggled, and I tried not to think about how I was basically gagging it with its own flesh.

This is a oneshot/test wip of an idea I had for a worm fanfic, though I'm completely rewriting it. Enjoy this monstrosity! :D
