ColeyDoesThings: How we couple!

Not everybody is really big into romance or pairing people in movies together, and I understand that. So if you're not one of those people, then this isn't really something you might be interested in. But Coley did a video about how some people react and do shipping, so let's see how much we can relate to.

Don't forget to actually check out the channel if you like the video. They're very entertaining!

 Guitar Rift 1:

Boss music. XD

Yeah. In a way, yeah.

Guitar Rift 2:

Yes. Especially with canon movie couples.

Actually, no. I don't really like Astrid and Hiccup. I think their romance was hurried in the first movie, (which to me also says that she's really shallow...you know, outcast guy does something cool and then suddenly everybody wants to be his friend trope? Yeah, doesn't work for me....), and then Astrid just became more of a background character in movie two. Never saw movie three. Not interested. This is the only reason I wouldn't want a romance in Kung Fu Panda.

Guitar Rift 3:

Yes. Very much yes. I actually find myself liking these types of couples very much.

Guitar Rift 4:

The crazy girl was literally me when I finally found fan art on Tigress and Yijiro.

THIS IS WHY FAN FICTION WRITERS EVEN BEGAN TO EXIST!!!!!

Guitar Rift 5:

I am not interested in these types of stories. I've never been the person to want to date a celebrity or fictional character, so that's pretty much why.

Guitar Rift 6:

I am very much a forbidden romance kind of girl. I can't even help it.

Katherine Barlow and Sam.

Gnomeo and Juliet.

Shifu and Mei-Ling.

And those are just the canon couples!

Guitar Rift 7:

Do you know how long it took for me to realize the ending was a Scooby Doo reference?

I have definitely seen people do this, but in the reverse: people trying to talk people out of their ships because they straight up hate them.

This is why Shipping Wars exist.

Guitar Rift 8:

"EVER AFTER" IN A NUTSHELL!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE CAPTAIN LAURENT AND JACQUELINE!!!!!!!! THEY'RE SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!

Guitar Rift 9:

I do enjoy fully-fleshed out couples.

I also tend to write couples and then look back and think, "Wait...did I just create a subtle and yet powerful power couple dynamic?"

Guitar Rift 10:

..........

If I do, I can't think of any at the moment. I don't think so. I'm not really that kind of shipper.

Guitar Rift 11:

I don't think so.

At least not something as crazy as a stapler. XD

Guitar Rift 12:

I don't really notice. I just stick with whatever fits like puzzles in my brain.

Guitar Rift 13:

I am not familiar with shipping terminology, so all I can say is: if I like a couple, I stick with a couple. I don't think I have one particular dynamic. If it's a good read, it's a good read.

Guitar Rift 14:

Yes, I have many of these. If they're a good couple, why not?

Personally I love Gloria and Melman from Madagascar, and by the way, I will only watch Madagascar 3. The first was okay but the second was so uncomfortable and awkward I like to pretend it never even existed.

Also Scrooge McDuck and Goldie are adorable and I love them-

See what I mean with the forbidden romance?! Okay that one's not really forbidden, but there's definitely a moral conflict that I love to watch tango!

Guitar Rift 15:

Yeeeeeeesss!

This is indeed why we are here!

You're welcome! XD

Guitar Rift 16:

This is actually how my brain works, but subconsciously. If a couple or two platonic people in a movie or show do not click or operate correctly as my brain sees they should, it won't ship them. It's actually very rare for me to ship non-canon couples, but every so often I'll watch a movie or show and my brain goes:

"You know who would fit perfectly in a romantic power duo?

Those two bystanders in the background sharing notes!

Heh? Heh? <Nudge nudge>"

Actually, just to get this off my chest, I didn't really think Alya and Nino made a good match for Miraculous Ladybug. It came on so suddenly! I think if they had built to it, it would have been fine, but not only was it super rushed and sudden, I felt like ever since they became a couple, Nino's gotten a bit clingy and I didn't think that was his character type and I hate it!

Guitar Rift 17:

This is what happened with Kung Fu Panda, to be honest. I watched the movie, was super into it, and I don't know why, but my brain saw Tigress and Tai Lung interacting on screen and thought,

"Hmmm...vicious fighting...persistent determination....fiery tempers...villain look....strength gamble....other stuff other stuff..... Yes! You'd make the perfect couple!"

(In my defense, the movie didn't make it clear Shifu adopted Tigress as well as Tai Lung and I'm the least subtle person ever....)

I didn't consider anybody else as a couple, because I thought of their relationships in a strictly platonic way. My brain didn't see anybody who made a perfect couple match. But then Kung Fu Panda 2 came out and we got to see the growth in the characters and their changing relationship dynamics and my brain went,

"...........

Okay, I get now why everybody likes Tigress and Po as a couple.

.........

I now ship this."

And nowadays I have a few couples floating about in my brain in this fandom. So there's that.

Guitar Rift 18:

What I can't figure out is why we even need ships in a movie. I get that people have pairings they feel are meant to be, but everyone is asking all these modern media film makers for a strong female heroine who doesn't need to rely on romantic tropes, and despite getting exactly that with films like Raya, Moana, Encanto, Luca, and more, what does everybody do?

Pair up the main character with someone absolutely toxic and problematic because they think it's "progressive".

............

Can't I just enjoy ONE movie in peace without someone trying to shoehorn in romance?! Please?! The Rise of Skywalker didn't need a romantic arc! Everyone was fine by themselves as friends and pseudo-siblings thank you very much!!!!!!

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

(Sorry for the rant, but I get frustrated when people hate on films like Beauty and the Beast for having "Stockholm Syndrome" but then praise Raya and the Last Dragon despite the fact that the writers basically forced her to trust people who literally were not trustworthy by every definition of the phrase! I do not tolerate victim-shaming thank you very much!!!)

Guitar Rift 19:

If I ever get delusional about a ship....please put me in a straight jacket.

XD

But seriously. Stay away from the nerf guns.

Guitar Rift 20:

I don't consider my ships in depth, though I have become more aware over the years of obvious issues, like shipping grown adults with teens. (Before you look at me weird, child me thought that adulthood didn't start until you were 21, so I was confused about why 18 and 19 year olds couldn't date 14 or 15 year olds until I was older and understood the reason a little better. Personally, I blame the Asperger's for that one.... Don't date people over 18, kids. That's literally illegal. They could be grooming you....)

Guitar Rift 21:

Yes.

Oh yes.

Sorry, but as long as my ship is healthy, I will ship it all I want. Age gaps included! I have never had a problem with age gaps, and as long as you're not trying to date a minor and you have a healthy relationship, I do not care how far apart in age you are. I know many people with age gaps and they seem pretty happy to me.

XD Yum yum juice! XD

I am definitely a side shipper.  I like side characters. They don't get as much love and that's not very fair.
