CHAPTER 3 - A Secret
Liam Barren had gotten up early the following morning, not by force, but by the fact he was so used to getting up early to go train when he was younger with his parents. He could no longer do that since, after what happened to him, he was on his own. He laid in the bed, thinking about how he got into the castle, how it only took knowing the right people and how he lied to get into here... He felt bad for lying to Alynna.. Well was he really lying?
He shook the feeling away and tried to clear his head, the way he was told to do so was by doing meditation. And so he got up out of bed and found a big area in the room to meditate.
20 minutes passed about and then he suddenly he looked around.... If anyone caught him, he knew he would be dead by tomorrow. Thinking about this quietly, he took a deep breath and did.. What he always did.. Some water training. Everytime his powers were activated, his eyes would go into a light blue color.

Alynna Enroris woke up to a sound just outside the castle. Even the simplest of sounds had made her alert of what lay out of sight. She had woken in a cold sweat for an unknown reason. Staying in bed for a few minutes, she heard the sound of chirping birds. It was the break of day.
She rang for the servants to get her some cold water in a basin for her to wash up in. Afterwards, she chose from her elegant wardrobe - a green silk day-wear gown.
In her journeys, she'd like to dress herself up in riding jeans, and a loose blouse, but in the castle she wore more comfortable thin dresses. I guess as a person of royalty would?
She let her hair flow down to her shoulders and only styled it with a simple braid.
When she was done, she began to walk the very silent corridors. She heard only footsteps of some of the servants in the kitchen hallways and someone sweeping the grounds outside. And then she heard something rather odd.
It sounded... She didn't know.. Would she rather say strange?
She listened carefully and moved her way to the door of the room where it was coming from.
She knocked on the door silently and awaited for whoever it was on the other side to open it.
***
Liam heard the knock, and as if on cue, his eyes went back to their usual green and the water in the air fells right onto his head. He cursed under his breath and quickly went into panic mode.
Sure he may be almost an adult, but adults can still have panic attacks right? He tried to find something to dry his hair. Thinking of a possible excuse. And then an idea struck him out of nowhere. He ran into the bathroom, took a towel and wrapped it around his head. He also covered his face in water. He stood there for a moment, debating of whether to take his PJ's top off to give it the effect he was in the shower. He paced for a moment before saying "Screw it" and did so and splashed water all over him, before then taking a deep breath and going to the door.
"Hey just Alynna!" Liam said in his usually energetic voice. "I'm so sorry but I just got out of the shower so I'm not fully ready to come out yet. Could you give me a few moments to get changed? Actually- do you have a way to clean my clothes. I only have 3 outfits and I have used them all up sadly" He waited for a response, hoping that his acting skills his mother had praised him for had paid off.
****
Alynna looked at him for a moment strangely. She swore she had heard a use of .. Magic? It couldn't have been. Maybe the sun from yesterday made Alynna hear things. She clear that silly thought from her mind quickly and answered the boy "Morning, Liam." She said with a smile "Yes, I can ring in the maids to take your outfits cleaned and I'm sure they can provide you a few clean extra outfits."
"Thank you very much, will I just wait in the bathroom while the servants do their thing? Also may I ask how things run here? You don't have to answer me now, or at all... I'm just curious"
Alynna could obviously see that Liam was happy that he could finally get some clean clothes for much. Gosh, how much people charged to get clothes washed let alone buy new ones as well... She saw him look at her outfit.
"You do look amazing this morning though, I mean did you do your hair yourself? God I'm sorry if in case that came off as rude at all... I just think you look pretty this morning." Liam stuttered as he turned a bright shade of red. He put back on his cheeky smile that he had yesterday like nothing was wrong.
Alynna smiled a hearty smile. She was indeed, flattered "I did and thank you, Liam", she said kindly "You shall wait in your room until the servant arrives with your new outfit and after breakfast, I shall take you on a tour of our castle" She had to get to know this boy better. There was yet a very pleasing atmosphere in his presence yet so odd. "That is, if you'd like." She quickly added.
"Did you not see my reaction yesterday coming into this place, I was off the walls with everything in this place, of course I would love to go on a tour, that would be like a dream for me, this whole experience is a dream for me, someone like me showing up into a castle and being a guest is amazing! You don't get to see this kinda thing everyday."
Liam was telling the truth, he loved this place with his heart and his head. Back home he had nothing like it- the main thing they had was a large garden with lots of clean and soft grass, as well as a lot of lovely variations of color from the flowers that would smell amazing every spring. Inside his house however was another story. It was much smaller than most but even then, he felt cozy in a way.
"Great then" Alynna laughed "I'll send in the servants your way and I'll see you at the breakfast table"
As soon as Alynna had departed, she looked for one of the cleaning maids "Roserta" she called out, when she found one of the servants. Once she stated that her guest would like some new outfits, the servant was on her way to the clothe storage area.
Alynna after thinking over for a bit walked till she arrived at the breakfast serving quarters. It was exquisitely large. Too large actually for her liking. The table had not being set up yet. She could hear the servants walking to and fro in the hallways and even more in the kitchen. There were plenty to be done in the start of the day and yet never had the servants failed to bring a meal to the table on time. Alynna always used to help out set the table, even though everyone asked her not to do what they called 'servant's work'.
Her being her, she kept on doing it; helping the servants and doing whatever work she could instead of having to find a servant every now and then.
Yes, she was part royalty and there were some times she was sick of the fuss. But there were also times where she enjoyed the authority and the finest of things.
It wasn't long before the servants, one by one, came out from the kitchen halls with large plates in their hands. There were foods which varied from rich broth, pork, various sauces, bread and cheese. For beverages, there was some hot tea, warm water and wine. Alynna helped the servants to set the table accordingly.
Once seated and after while of contemplating what she should say to Liam, the mail carrier brought her some of the daily mail. Some were news snippets as well as letters from her friends. But most were for her Mamma inquiring about her health. She heard a sound from around the corner and looked up. It was Liam who had appeared from the entrance of the quarters.
"Liam" she said pleasantly as she folded one of the letter gently in her hands "Do sit down beside me"
She showed him a seat at the corner of the table beside her. She was sitting at the end and wanted to spring up the conversation of the bounty papers. Maybe this was a good time to do so? She never could find the right time.
A servant passed her "Will Mamma be down for breakfast?" she asked quietly leaning to the right as not to be heard. The servant shook her head.
"No, Miss Enroris" she said feebly in her tiny but young voice "She said that she wasn't feeling too well. She said to be left alone and to bring breakfast up in an hour".
"I'll bring it up in an hour" Alynna replied "Just have it ready in the kitchen on the tray". And before she forgot her manners, she dropped in a small "Thank you"
Alynna could see Liam at the corner of her eye, with his his hands lightly on his lap as he waited.
"The clothes fit you quite well" Alynna said as she poured herself some light wine. She needed to ease off the tension "Please do help yourself"
When was the right time to ask Liam the question and inquire what he had been up to? It was in no way her business to pry into his actions but, she wanted to help.
Liam heard her speak and that snapped him out of his trance of looking around the room and he heard her talk about his outfit. He was flattered at the words she spoke, he didn't really pick it out. He just made her think that. What he wanted was to impress others... He looked back at the food and tried not to dribble. He had never seen so much food on a table, and it was only breakfast! He used his unforgotten table manners and took only what he could eat, which was a few fruits, a couple of sausages, two eggs and a piece of toast. He looked at the cutlery in front of him. He put his pinky fingers into the air as he ate using the cutlery, being a proper-ish gentleman
"Why thank you, I would say yours fits you as well but I think I already did that this morning" he said.
"Yes. Yes, you did", Alynna said with a smile. She held the glass of wine in her hand, and hesitated for a moment before she opened her mouth again to speak
"Liam" she spoke warily pausing for a moment or two so Liam would look up "I know it's not my business to intrude but a bounty hunter came by me and asked me if I had seen someone,he showed in the bounty papers"
She hesitated again "I didn't say anything but I know it was you... Would you like to tell me what's going on?"
She could have sworn that Liam had gone white. He coughed a little slightly choking on some food he was eating. He looked very confused, genuinely confused. He tilted his head slightly to the side.
"A-a bounty hunter?! What- what did I do?? I- I don't think I haven't done anything wrong, Please I haven't done anything I swear, you gotta believe me!"
"Do calm down" Alynna said gently. Liam hadn't the slightest bit been aware of the bounty over his head "You're wanted for ... murder" she said making sure no-body was listening.
"Murder? M-m-murder?! I-I would never, please, I swear I would never.... I have witnessed murders b-but I have never done it myself! You have to believe me, I promise on my life!"
He started to shake a little. He had actually killed someone when he was younger. It was his mother. It was an accident and he almost had died during the explosion but his mother was protecting him from it. If only he was a little more careful... Surely, he knew that this wasn't the case they were talking about now. It was already dealt with when he was 10.
"I don't suspect you of it, Liam" Alynna said quickly "I thought you were aware of the bounty... It says you're wanted in the Kingdom Of Ragadon. If you can think back on your activities in Ragadon, it would help for us to clear this case as quickly as possible. If you've ever been there, of course"
Liam was certainly innocent, Alynna could feel that. He was definitely full of his secrets but she he was innocent.
He looked over trying to hide his face as he whimpered. He still hadn't gotten over his mother's death and so all those memories were rushing back to him, the memories he tried to make disappear into the back of his mind. To just forget it all, he felt like he just wanted to curl into a ball and cry but of course, he couldn't do that now. He rubbed his eyes and looked back at her, his eyes glassy.
"K-kingdom of Ragadom? Where is that? I-it doesn't ring a bell at all... I have been here and to another kingdom but that's all, is that a new kingdom or something?"
"It is a kingdom that's been here for quite a while and there's got to be a reason why there's a bounty" Alynna thought for a while. She had connections.. Maybe she could find something out from them
"Alright, never you mind" she spoke quietly "I'll get to the bottom of this"
She thought twice on writing a letter to a friend of hers. A close friend who had authority with the courts. Maybe they could figure something out.
"I'm sorry, it had to come to this" Alynna said apologetically "But this is better having to find out about it before it's too late"
"But I haven't been there before, at least I don't think I have. I really am telling the truth... I thank you for doing this for me, but I promise I didn't murder anyone. I just don't know why I am the one that being pinned here.."
Liam sighed. He just wanted the bounty hunter stuff out of his hair. He knew he didn't do it, probably someone who looked like him did it. But he didn't want to go there to check. He could be killed himself. He slowly started to eat again. His food was slightly cold now. To be honest, he didn't care- he had eaten worse.
I write a letter to the courts later, Alynna thought. She looked towards Liam "When you're done" she said gently "I'm willing to give you the tour of the whole castle". She stopped for a moment and cleared her mind of the worries "We do have a fine library"
He was almost finished eating when she started talking, he only had one fried egg left. He listened in, he couldn't help it but his face turned into a smile, he was very very happy about this, in fact, he had a dream about it the night before, how it would look and all its secrets inside its tall walls, he nodded politely to her before going slightly faster as he ate... once he was finished eating, he wiped his mouth with a cloth from inside his outfit and then turned back to her. "I'm ready now, I can't wait to see it all!"
