Chapter 32

Carlisle cleared his throat loudly causing the couple to pull away from their embrace.

"If you two love birds would be so kind as to not make out in my office- I would be eternally grateful," Carlisle chuckled. "Besides," he nodded towards Emmett, "I bet Jackie would be pretty excited for the surprise that's waiting for her."

Jackie's eyes went wide as a smile grew across her face. "What surprise?" she asked.

As if on cue, Sofia and Maddie burst through the door.

"Mommy!" they squealed and screamed in delight.

Jackie fell to her knees, opening her arms for her daughters to run in to her embrace. What ensued was a tangle of hugs, tickles, giggling and kisses.

Carlisle eventually saw himself out as Emmett bear hugged his three girls. He thought himself one lucky man. Who would have ever thought that he would have a family of his own.

Jackie took good care to make sure she didn't accidentally crush her daughters. Thankfully it wasn't as hard as she thought it would be. Lifting both girls up, she gently set them on top of Carlisle's examination table.

Jackie shifted around on her feet nervously for what felt like hours. How in the world was she supposed to explain to her girls that she was a vampire. Did they even know what a vampire was, she wondered.

"Girls," she spoke softly at first, "there's something I need to tell you," she said. Taking a deep breath, she ran her hands through her hair before letting out a sigh.

"We already know," Sofia interrupted.

"What?" Jackie questioned. She angrily looked over at Emmett who threw his hands up defensively.

"It wasn't me," he insisted.

"Mom, we knew Emmett was a vampire before you did," Sofia explained.

"How?" Jackie asked.

"We just did," she shrugged. "I mean, didn't you ever wonder why no body ate, or why Emmett was always so cold? All the signs were there, Mom" Sofia answered. "You just didn't see them."

Jackie sat back in shock and awe. When did her little girl get so grown up.

"So you're ok with this?" Jackie asked her girls.

"Yeah," Sofia replied and Maddie nodded her head. "We knew it would happen some time."

Maddie suddenly elbowed Sofia. The two girls shared a look before Sofia turned back to Jackie.

"But we have a question," Sofia said. "Was it Daddy that caused this to happen?"

Both Emmett and Jackie looked at eachother. Neither of them knew what to say. As Jackie gathered her words, she grabbed both of their hands and stared intensely into both of her daughters eyes.

"Yes, it was," Jackie began. "But I want both of you to understand, that man- was not your father. You have nothing to worry about anymore and I want you to forget he ever exsisted. Emmett is your daddy now, and the Cullen's are our family," she said. "Do you understand?" Jackie smiled.

Both girls nodded their heads in unison. "We understand," they replied.

Jackie grabbed the girls into another hug as Emmett embraced all three of them again.

Suddenly there was a loud commotion in the house underneath them. Emmett and Jackie grabbed the girls before rushing downstairs to see what was going on. They arrived just as Bella threw Jacob out of the house.

"You imprinted on my daughter?" Bella yelled.

"It wasn't my choice!" he yelled back.

"She's a baby!"

"It's not like that," Jacob insisted. "You think Edward would let me live if it was?"

"I'm still debating it," Edward smirked.

"I've held her once," Bella said. "One time, Jacob! And already you think that you have some moronic wolfie claim on her?" she yelled. "She's mine!"

Suddenly Bella punched Jacob and he went flying back, falling to the ground. From somewhere in the woods, Leah and Seth in their wolf form arrived to defend Jacob if needed. Leah snarled at Bella.

"It's fine, Leah," Jacob informed her.

"You're gonna stay away from her," Bella demanded.

"You know I can't do that."

A very angry Bella punched Jacob hard in the stomach and he fell down again.

"Stop her, Edward," Esme instructed.

But Edward was enjoying this way too much. "He said, it's fine," Edward smirked again. "She's amazing, right?"

"Do you remember how much you wanted to be around me three days ago?" Jacob asked. "That's gone now, right?"

"Long gone!"

"Because it was her," Jacob tried to explain. "From the beginning, it was Nessie who wanted me there."

Jackie shook her head knowing this was about to get even more ugly.

"Nessie?" Bella screeched. "You nicknamed my daughter after the Loch Ness Monster?!" she screamed.

As Bella stalked angrily towards Jacob, Seth's wolf tried to attack her, in an attempt to defend his alpha.

Jackie stepped forward, realizing before anyone else what was about to happen. "Bella! That's enough," Jackie shouted but it was too late.

As she continued forward towards Jacob, Bella shoved Seth aside, accidentally throwing him into a tree. Jackie handed Maddie off to Emmett before rushing towards Seth who had fallen to the ground, whimpering in pain.

"Seth, I'm sorry," Bella apologized instantly filled with regret.

"He'll be alright," Jackie assured her, but we need to get him up to Carlisle's office."

As Seth transitioned back into his human form, Carlisle stepped over to help Jackie take Seth up to his office.

Jacob turned back towards Bella again. "Bella," he tried to reason with her. "You know me better than anyone. All I want is for Renesmee to be safe and happy," he explained. "Look, nothing ever made sense before. You, me, any of it. And now I understand why. She was the reason."

Glad that the drama finally seemed to be over, Carlisle and Jackie helped Seth up to Carlisle's office. As Carlisle gathered some supplies, Jackie helped Seth sit down on the examination table. She put on some gloves before gently pressing around Seth's side which caused him to wince.

"I'm sorry," she said. "Does that hurt right here?" Jackie asked.

"A little," he admitted.

"So what do we think?" Carlisle asked.

"Fracturing of the T5 and T6 ribs on the right side," Jackie replied. "Patient seems to maintain normal breathing patterns so it's doubtful that the ribs are broken or have punctured anything."

Carlisle smiled. "I would agree with that evaluation," he said before handing her the bandages. "Wrap him up and give him a couple aspirin," he instructed. "I'm going to go check in on Jacob," Carlisle said. "He was looking a little worse for wear when we left them all."

Jackie nodded her head and set to work on wrapping up Seth's ribs.

"That was pretty brave of you, trying to defend Jacob out there," Jackie commented.

"He's my alpha," Seth explained. "I'd do anything for him."

Jackie silently nodded her head again in understanding. Of course she didn't totally understand, but she respected his loyalty.

"You know," Seth began. "There's someone else I would do anything for," he said quietly.

Jackie looked up from his ribs, raising a quizzical eyebrow at him. "Oh?"

"Shortly after your wedding, while you were on your honeymoon, I had my sixteenth birthday," Seth informed her.

He took a deep shakey breath. Partly because of the pain, but also in part due to being nervous. "Please just don't freak out," Seth pleaded.

Jackie rolled back from the table as she had sat down on the rolling stool to get a better angle on her patient. She slowly pulled off the set of disposable medical gloves before looking up at him. She was thoroughly clueless as to where this conversation was going.

"Well?"

Seth hesitated before answering.

"I sort of imprinted on Sofia," he blurted.

"You what?" Jackie challenged as she narrowed her eyes at him.

"I imprint-"

Jackie held up her hand, immediately silencing Seth.

"No. No- I heard you," she interrupted him. "I just don't understand what that means."

"I don't fully understand myself," Seth admitted. "I just know that the second I saw her three days ago, everything changed," he explained. "I would do anything for her," he said. "Be anything she needs- a brother, protector, a best friend."

"Just please don't be angry with me," Seth begged.

"I would never be angry with you over something like this," Jackie chuckled. "Does anybody else know?" she quickly asked.

"Only Jacob and Leah because they heard it through our wolf link," he replied. "Oh, and possibly Edward," he added.

"Well, don't say anything until I have time to tell Emmett," Jackie advised him. "I'm very happy to know Sofia will have someone like you in her life," she said. "But there is just one thing."

"What's that?" Seth asked.

"You break her heart," Jackie warned, "I'll break your neck."

Jackie finished up with Seth and came down the stairs to find Emmett and a few of the others gathered in the kitchen.

"Seth all patched up?" Carlisle asked.

"Yeah, he'll be all right," Jackie replied. "He took the aspirin and went to go lie down."

"Sounds good," he replied. "I'm going to go finish helping the girls with our little science experiment," Carlisle said.

Jackie shot him a confused look. "Science experiment?"

"Well, with everything going on, we didn't want the girls to fall behind in school," Carlisle explained. "So the entire family is homeschooling the girls," he informed her.

"Jasper is teaching history, Edward teaches English, Esme is teaching them reading and writing, while Alice helps them with art. Emmett has been working with them on math and I got science," he said. "I hope you don't mind," Carlisle added.

"Mind?" Jackie questioned. "I think it's wonderful," she beamed.

Suddenly the Cullen's house phone started ringing.

"Is that Charlie?" Bella asked.

"He's been calling twice a day," Edward informed her.

Jacob nodded his head in agreement. "He's in pretty rough shape."

"Eventually we'll have to tell him you didn't make it," Carlisle said.

"He needs to mourn, Bella," Edward told her.

Bella looked torn, but she knew they were right. "Okay," she finally answered. "We'll do it tomorrow."

Emmett wrapped his arms around Jackie before resting his chin on top of her head. "I'm gonna miss this place," he said.

"We'll come back," Carlisle reminded him, "we always do."

"Wait," Jacob scoffed, "nobody said anything about leaving."

"Once people believe that Bella and Jackie are dead we can't risk anyone seeing them," Carlisle explained.

"So you just- disappear?" Jacob questioned, his voice growing louder as he began to freak out.

"Jacob, we don't have another choice," Edward said.

"Like hell you do," he replied before running out of the house.

Jackie sighed before quickly rushing out side after him.

"Jacob, stop," she demanded as she flashed in front of him.

"Get out of my way," Jacob growled, "I don't want anyone to get hurt."

"Just talk to me," Jackie insisted. "What are you going to do?"

"The only thing I can do," Jacob answered. "I've gotta go see Charlie myself."

Slowly Jackie stepped out of the way. "You can't tell him about us, Jacob," she told him. "You'll put us all at risk."

Jacob walked past her grabbing the helmet off his bike. "I'm not going to tell him anything," Jacob smirked. "I'm going to show him."

"Show him what?" Jackie asked.

"Why don't you come along and see," he said turning around and handing the helmet to her.

Jackie snatched it out of his hands.

"Hold on tight," Jacob said as he gave her a cocky grin.

Jackie rolled her eyes and hopped on the back of the bike. She pulled the helmet down on her head before wrapping her arms around his waist.

"Just drive."
