Chapter Two

"What would you like to eat?" Roman asked as he led me into the spacious kitchen. It was sparkly clean with not a spec of dust in sight, which didn't surprise me as the rest of the house also seemed to be the same way. As I looked down at the white tiles underneath my feet, I could see my reflection in them, once again proving just how clean the floor was.

Thinking back to Roman's question, I didn't know how to answer. I never really got to eat a variety of things so I wasn't sure what he could and couldn't make. I shrugged my shoulders, something I did a lot when I wasn't sure on how to answer something.

Roman smiled before nodding in understanding.

"I'll surprise you then" He said before turning around and started taking things out of the cabinets.

"So, how are you feeling? How was the ride up here?" Roman asked as he moved around the kitchen.

For the first time since being here, I spoke.

"I don't really know...the ride was fine though" I said lowly and Roman nodded.

"I'm glad you made it here safely. Oh, that's right. Is there anything you're allergic to?" He asked and I shook my head.

Just then, Max had entered the room with my plush in his hand. He held it in front of me with an expectant look.

"Y-You left this in the car" he muttered and I nodded before taking my plush from it, feeling a lot more at peace now that she was in my arms.

"Thank you" I said and Max grunted with a nod before exiting the kitchen briskly.

"Don't mind him. He's a good kid really, he's just not good at being nice" Roman said as he stirred the food in the pot.

After a few more minutes of waiting for the food to be done, Roman finally placed a plate of spaghetti and meatballs in front of me.

"Something simple for tonight, hope it's to your liking" He said and I thanked him.

"What do you want to drink? Water or juice?" He asked while opening the fridge.

"Juice..." I said and he nodded before taking out some apple juice and pouring it in a cup before handing it to me.

I had begun to eat the food that was given to me and not to my surprise, it tasted amazing. Roman said it was simple but it tasted like it could belong in some high end restaurant.

I continued to eat and take sips of my juice and before long, my plate was empty. Roman had taken my plate and glass to put in the sink and then told me to come with him.

When we arrived to Roman's room, it was neat and well kept. He had his own desk, book shelf, and even a mini fridge. His room was mildly lit by the lamp on his nightstand before he turned on the light, fully illuminating us.

"Wait here for a moment" Roman said before exiting. A few minutes later he came back with some folded clothes in his hands.

"You can change into these for right now until we can get you some clothes that fit you. Max is the smallest of us so I hope they'll somewhat fit" he said while handing the clothes off to me.

"Thank you" I said before going into the the bathroom that was adjoined to Roman's room.

Seeing my reflection for the first time in a couple of days, I looked myself over and saw that I definitely wasn't in the best state. My hair was disheveled since I haven't been able to brush it and my eyes had bags underneath them. My pale skin was looking paler than ever and I just sighed before taking off my clothes and getting into the shower.

While in the shower, I thought of all of my siblings that I had encountered today. They were all so different, it made me wonder how to go about getting to know them. I wanted to make an effort but I was also kind of nervous. Having conversations and being friendly was never something I was good at.

Then it hit me that I still had yet to see my father. I wonder, would he be as serious looking as Lucas or would he be like Ares or even Kadence? Would he let me call him Papa?

I sighed to myself again before getting out of the shower and drying off. The shorts were easy to deal with since I could just tie the strings on them but the shirt I had to roll up the sleeves a couple of times.

Still, I was grateful for the clothes and made sure to remember to thank Max for them later.

"You can put your old clothes over there" Roman said from his desk. He pointed to a laundry bin that was empty, so I did as I was told.

I looked back at Roman and saw that he seemed to be working on something. I didn't know what but it had all of Roman's focus as he continued to write away on the paper in front of him.

I felt a little awkward about getting into the bed. It was his bed too, surely he must feel bothered about me suddenly being shoved into his room. Especially since Lancelot had just randomly decided and he ended up as the unlucky one.

"Ceres? What's wrong?" Roman stopped working on the papers to look at me and suddenly the ground became so much more interesting to me.

"If you don't speak to me, I can't help you" Roman had now completely abandoned his work to walk over to me and I felt an unfamiliar tingling sensation rise to my cheeks.

"Are you sure it's fine for me to sleep here...?" I muttered and Roman's eyes widened a little as he realized what I meant.

"Of course it is. It doesn't bother me one bit" he said. Hearing his words put a little bit of relief on my shoulders but there was still that small part of me that felt like I was bothering him.

"Come on" he said leading me over to the bed and once I was in, he tucked me in.

"I'll come to bed later once I've finished my work. If you need anything, I'm right there" he said and I nodded.

As Roman went back to his desk, I closed my eyes in an attempt to fall asleep but after a few minutes, sleep had yet to take me. I felt like something was missing so I looked around and realized that my turtle wasn't with me.

I sat up and looked around the room before realizing that I must have left her in the kitchen.

Getting up, I walked over to the door but before I could leave, Roman's voice stopped me.

"Where are you going?" He asked.

"I left my turtle downstairs" I said and he nodded in understanding so I took that as permission to leave.

Walking down the stairs, my steps were silent on the cold floor. As I neared the kitchen, I heard voices and even though it wasn't good to eavesdrop, I stopped myself to make sure I wasn't walking in on an important conversation.

"This is so frustrating! My little sister that I never knew of is less that a few feet away from me and I can't even get to know her! This sucks" Kadence's voice reaches my ears and a thump sound followed shortly after.

"You have no patience at all. You can ask her all the questions you want later. She needs rest now, did you not see how tired she looked?" The other voice belonged to Ares, at least if my memory served me correctly.

"Yeah, my poor baby. Hm, I wonder what kind of breakfast foods she likes?" Hearing the topic shift, I decided that it was the right time to go in and grab my turtle.

Upon entering, Kadence's back was to me but Ares could see me as I walked in.

"Hey, kiddo. What are you doing up? I thought Roman put you to bed?" Ares said and Kadence turned around as well.

I simply just pointed to my plush that was up on the island. Kadence grabbed it before coming over to me and holding it out to me.

"Here you go" he said and I took it from him with a small 'thank you'.

Kadence seemed to let out some sort of a squealing sound and Ares just rolled his eyes. Deciding to hurry back so that Roman wouldn't come looking for me, I bid the two a goodnight before leaving.

Just as I was turning a corner, I found myself bumping into someone. I looked up and saw Max staring down at me. Feeling uncomfortable, I took a quick step back.

"S-Sorry..." I said while looking down at my turtle.

"S'fine" he muttered and I looked up at him curiously to which he glared once realizing I was staring.

"Shouldn't you be in bed or something?" He asked and I nodded.

"Well, get out of here" he said and I nodded again before apologizing once more and heading up to Roman's room.

"Found what you were looking for?" Roman asked upon me coming back into the room and I nodded. He smiled at me before turning back to his work. I wonder what he was doing that was taking him so long?

I crawled back into bed and this time once I closed my eyes, I was out like a light.

THIRD P.O.V

Max cursed at himself as he watched his sister practically run away from him. He hadn't meant for his words to come out like that, he was just nervous and didn't know how to tell her nicely, that she should be asleep.

Max walked into the kitchen and once he saw that two of his other brothers occupied it, he made quick moves to get to the fridge and get out.

"Isn't it also your bed time, Maxi?" Max's eyebrow twitched at Ares' annoying nickname for him and he just ignored his brother as he opened the fridge.

"Yeah, way past his bedtime. Come, I'll tuck you in and give you a good night kiss" Kadence said as he inched closer to Max in an attempt to catch him in a hug, knowing that it would annoy Max greatly.

However, what he didn't anticipate was that Max was prepared.

"Back away from me you dirty old man" Max said before throwing a water bottle at Kadence's face and dashing out of the kitchen.

"Owww, that little snot. I swear, who raised him?!" Kadence whined as he rubbed his face in an effort to make the pain go away.

"Technically you did" Ares said and Kadence frowned.

"I would never raise such a violent child!" He exclaimed and Ares chuckled before taking a swig of the beer that he had been slowly sipping on.

"Want me to kiss your boo boo better?" Ares said mockingly and Kadence's eyes brightened.

"You would?" He asked and Ares' face immediately went into deadpan.

"No" he said before retreating out of the kitchen, leaving a hurting Kadence in the kitchen by himself.

CERES P.O.V

"Ceres, it's time to wake up sweetie" I groaned as I felt my shoulder being shaken. I put my head under the pillow in an attempt to go back to sleep but Roman once again judged me.

"C'mon Ceres, if you don't wake up I'll be forced to take drastic measures" Roman said and I ignored him, really not wanting to get up.

The feeling of my sides being tickled did nothing to me and Roman stopped once he realized.

"What kind of kid isn't ticklish?" He muttered.

Deciding that I was being unreasonable, I sat up in bed and rubbed the sleep out of my eyes.

"You're a strange kid" He said with a chuckle at the end.

"Sorry..." I said and Roman shook his head.

"That isn't something to apologize for. It just adds to your unique adorableness" he said ruffling my hair.

"Let's go eat. Kadence won't shut up about you eating his cooking for the first time" Roman said and I nodded.

We walked to the kitchen and all of my brothers were in there, helping themselves to the food Kadence made.

There was a seat open between Max and Lucas that Roman led me to and when I sat, a plate of bacon, pancakes, and eggs was served to me with a glass of orange juice as well.

I dug in as the hunger was now hitting me full force and I had to say, I was also pleased with the taste of Kadence's cooking. Could all of them cook like this? It was amazing if they could. I can't really cook that well and I'm also afraid I might start a fire or something.

"Ceres, today we'll go shopping to get you some clothes" Lancelot said from his spot and I nodded.

"I'll take her!" Kadence offered and Ares scoffed.

"No way. You're the last person that should be in charge of her" he said and Kadence glared at him before turning to me with his normal smile.

"Ceres, you don't want to be bored all day with him right? You want to go with your favorite brother, don't you? It's okay to admit I'm your favorite" Kadence said from his side on the left of me.

"As if! You'd probably suffocate her to death with how much you'd smother her!" Ares said from my right.

I just looked between the two of them as they argued on who got to go shopping with me.

"You two stop fighting right now" we all jumped at Lance's strict tone.

After reprimanding the two, he turned to me with his usual kind smile.

"Ceres, you'll come with me, yes?" He said and I instinctively nodded, not wanting to disobey my oldest brother.

"No way!" Kadence and Ares exclaimed as they watched the exchange between me and Lancelot.

"Since you two can't seem to come to a settlement, I have done it for you. Besides, the house needs cleaning and don't think I haven't noticed you two skipping out on your chores. You should spend the day catching up on them" Lance said giving the two a stern glare before returning to his food.

I looked around me and saw the defeated looks on their faces and instantly felt bad for my brothers. Though there was nothing I could do since Lancelot's word seemed to be law around here and nobody wanted to find out what would happen if they were to break it.

"You two are always so god damn noisy" Max grumbled while shoving some eggs into his mouth.

"Watch your mouth please" Roman said and Max huffed.

"I'm not a kid" he said.

"Until you turn 21, I don't want to hear it" Roman said and Max rolled his eyes.

"Well, Maxi will be my little baby brother forever" Kadence cooed and Max made a disgusted face at him.

"You're so gross" he said.

All while watching their exchange, I had managed to finish my food and Lucas seemed to notice it.

"Do you want seconds?" He asked softly and I shook my head, truly feeling full from the first plate.

After breakfast, I was told to get ready and Max had once again lent me some of his clothes.

"Thank you for these and last night's" I said as he handed the clothes to me. Max's face turned a little red and he averted his eyes.

"It ain't a big deal..." he said.

It might not have been a big deal, but I still wanted to let him know that I was thankful.

Once I got dressed, I stepped out of Roman's room, only to be greeted with the sight of Kadence who held a brush in his hand.

"Would it be alright if I brushed your hair?" He asked and I paused for a moment before seeing that there really wasn't a downside to letting him so I nodded.

He led me to his room and then to a chair that was in front of a mirror. Once I saw my reflection, I was actually really glad that Kadence asked to brush my hair. It really needed it.

"Your hair is so long" Kadence muttered as he ran his hand through my hair and I pulled my knees up to my chest.

"Mama likes it this way..." I muttered and I noticed Kadence's hand pause momentarily before going back brushing my hair.

"But do you like it this long? Is it troublesome for you?" He asked and I shook my head. It wasn't too long that I couldn't walk properly or sleep with it tangled up underneath me.

"Hm. Alright then. What style would you like?" He asked as he turned the chair from side to side while looking at me through the mirror.

"Anything is fine" I said. I didn't really know any hair styles since all I've ever done to my hair is put it in a low pony or a bun.

Kadence hummed once more before nodding.

"I'll have you looking like a princess in no time" he said cheerfully and I just nodded, letting him do whatever he wanted.

It took a while surely with all the little kinks in my hair but eventually Kadence had managed to put my hair into a nice fishtail braid.

"See? Like a princess" he said as I looked at myself in the mirror. In my reflection, I could see red beginning to cover my cheeks. I wasn't embarrassed, I was more than happy if anything. This was the first time someone other than me has ever tended to my hair and the entire time I couldn't help but think of how nice it felt.

Would it have been the same way if Mama did my hair too?

"Thank you" I said and Kadence smiled brightly.

"Anytime. Seriously, I don't mind" he said and I nodded before getting out of the chair.

When I was going down the stairs, I saw that Lancelot was waiting for me typing away on his phone. Hearing my footsteps, Lancelot turned his head up towards me and smiled when seeing me.

"You look very cute" He said and I blushed at his words. This was also the first time someone has ever called me cute...

I guess I'm going to be experiencing a lot of firsts while living here.

"Are you ready?" He asked and I nodded.

Once again, Lancelot held out his hand to me but he seemed to remember yesterday's reaction so he let his hand drop back to it's side.

I frowned a little before taking his hand that was previously held out to me in an attempt to let him know that I was no longer so uncomfortable that I couldn't even let him hold my hand.

Lancelot's smile brightened once I grabbed his hand and he continued to lead us to his car.

I'm glad that I was able to make him smile. Even if it was for something as small as hand holding.

Baby steps...right?
