Chapter Twenty Three

Holiday break was over and now it was back to the same old, same old. I was very sad when I was woken up at the ungodly hour of seven in the morning to get ready to come back to this dreadful place.

I swear I was sighing the whole time in the car as I thought about it.

"Ceres!" I didn't get the chance to see Diana running straight for me until she tackled me into a hug and we both went flying on the ground.

I winced as my butt made contact with the hard ground. I could see a couple of other students staring at us and I immediately averted my eyes back onto the black haired girl that was currently squeezing the life out of me.

"D-Diana..." I managed to say in between her squeezing and she seemed to finally realize that I was slowly losing oxygen.

"Oh, sorry! I was just so excited to see you!" She said with a giggle as she got up and then helped me up. I frowned a little but I wasn't actually upset with her. I don't think I could be when she was so excited to see me.

"It's fine..." I said with a small smile to let her know that I was okay from her little surprise attack.

"So, what did you do over the break? We only got to talk a little since you're horrible when it comes to texting and picking up your phone" Diana said with a snicker at the end and I felt heat rising to my cheeks at her remark.

It wasn't a lie. I usually wasn't paying attention to my phone let alone being on it since I still wasn't sure of all the functions. The others promised they would teach me when they had time but until then, this was the way it had to be.

"Break was nice...I really just relaxed mainly, nothing too exciting" I said as we walked slowly to class. We were kind of early so we still had some time to hang behind.

"Mm, that sounds nice. My dad was bugging me the entire time wanting to do things. Like, I understand that he want to spend time with me but every second of the break is too much time" Diana said and I nodded at her words to show that I was listening.

Suddenly, Diana gasped as if she had gotten an amazing idea. Though, knowing Diana, it's probably something bizarre.

"You should come to my house! We could have a sleep over!" She said giddily.

A sleep over? My heart thumped at the offer. I had heard so much about these sleep overs from the kids in my old school, particularly of how fun they were. You get to snack on chips and candy, play games, stay up late, watch movies, and just talk about anything with your friends.

Before I could even answer her, the bell rung and we both had to hurry to class since we were late as we had just spent our spare time talking.

During the entire time through out our morning classes, I found myself a nervous wreck.

I had never been to a sleep over so it was only natural to be nervous, right? It's not like I didn't know what goes on at a sleep over but I just didn't find myself to be a fun person at all. I hardly did anything that others could consider fun. I liked old martial arts movies and taking naps, how in anyway is that good? I also have no idea what kinds of things Diana likes to do for fun, and if anything, she would probably realize how boring I was and never ask me to sleep over again.

I let out a small sigh as I turned my head up to the teacher who was asking for everyone's attention.

"Alright, you guys. It's time for your first group project!" Our teacher cheered and the only thing I could do was cringe heavily. Group work was never a favorite of mine. When we were placed in groups in my old school, the kids in my group either expected me to do all the work (which I wouldn't and we would all fail) or excluded me and left me on my own. Needless to say I've never handed in a group project in my life.

She continued to explain the details of our project before reading our group names and I dreaded hearing my name. The only thing that would make my group slightly tolerable was if Diana and I ended up together, but something tells me that the stars are just not aligned in my favor.

"...Hayden, Ross, and Ceres" Both of those names were unfamiliar to me and I just sighed again before preparing myself for the really uncomfortable and awkward situation that I had to deal with.

After finishing, the teacher asked us to pair up in our groups to discuss what parts we would be doing. I made no moves to get up since I had no idea who Ross or Hayden was. Seeing two boys approach me, I gripped my pencil a little tighter as to have some control over my nerves.

"Hey, Ceres, right?" One of them spoke. His dark red dyed hair was disheveled as if he had just gotten out of bed and his brown eyes stared at me curiously to which I just nodded at his question.

The other boy was silent which I didn't have a problem with but what weirded me out was that he kept staring at me. He had black hair and his eyes were blue and once he noticed that I was giving him a look, he averted his eyes.

"I'm Ross and this wimp here is Hayden" He said and Hayden tightened his notebook to his chest at the mentioning of his name.

"We've already met..." Hayden muttered and my eyes widened as this was news to me. We had already met? When? I racked my brain trying to remember if I had ever met him but nothing was coming to mind.

"Oh? I guess that makes it easier. So, let's get started so we can get out of here" Ross said with a small grin as he pulled a chair up at my desk with Hayden doing the same.

Ross was mainly the one leading the group since Hayden and I weren't really big talkers and I was glad that Ross could easily manage to keep the conversation going. It seemed as if he were used to this.

While discussing, I was also trying to remember where I had seen Hayden before but all I was drawing were blanks. Maybe he's confusing me with someone else? It's pretty possible.

"Okay, so, I'll take on the research. One of you can do the presentation and the other can do the outline" Ross said as he concluded our project details.

I definitely couldn't do the presentation as I was horrible with technology...but the outline didn't seem so bad.

"I'll do the outline" I spoke for the first time since our group came together. Ross nodded and looked to Hayden for confirmation.

"Okay, then I'll take care of the presentation" he said with a shy nod.

Ross clasped his hands together with a wide grin after we finished making our decision.

"Alrighty then, this meeting is adjourned. Can you guys give me your numbers and we can decide on a meeting place?" He asked.

I blinked.

What was my number?

I felt heat rise to my cheeks in embarrassment as I watched Hayden write his number down and then handed it to Ross who thanked him and then turned to me with a look of expectancy.

"I-I just got this phone so...I'm not really sure what it is..." I muttered. It wasn't a lie at all and it was better than telling him that I had no idea what my number is or how to find out.

"That's no problem. Here, I'll put my number into your phone" Ross said and I gave him my phone so that he could.

It was then that I realized that this was the first group I had been in that was so easy to work with. Ross seemed pretty friendly and Hayden was just like me, quiet.

After putting his number in, Ross handed me my phone back and I put it back in my pocket. Just then, the bell rang and we all gathered up our things.

"I'll put us in a group chat and text it later, okay?" Ross said and we nodded. Ross took his leave and now it was just me and Hayden. Hayden still seemed to be staring at me and this time I couldn't help but ask him if something was wrong.

"Are you...okay?" I asked slowly and Hayden's face exploded into a deep shade of red as he shook his head.

"I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to...it's just..." Hayden seemed to struggle with getting the words from his brain to his mouth and I couldn't help but feel a little bad for calling him out. I didn't mean to make him feel awkward but then again, all the staring he was doing was making me feel a little uncomfortable.

"I just wanted to thank you again..." he muttered and I scrunched my face up in confusion.

"Thank me for what?" I asked and his eyes widened a little.

"You mean...you don't remember?" He asked and I shook my head.

"Sorry, I don't know what you're talking about" I said and Hayden frowned.

"The other day...if you hadn't found my contacts..." he muttered and suddenly it clicked in my head.

Ceres was walking through the empty halls on her way to class. She was going to be late but her sense of urgency just wasn't there as she took her time so that she wouldn't have to be in the class for any longer than she wanted to be.

On her way there, she saw a boy on the ground frantically searching for something and became a bit confused when it looked as if he had no idea what he was searching for.

She debated on leaving him there and heading on to class but when she saw the helpless look on his face, she decided that she couldn't just leave him there.

"Uh....excuse me...? Are you looking for something?" Ceres asked softly and the boy turned his head in the direction of where her voice came from.

Hayden was startled momentarily by the soft voice he had suddenly heard. It was so soft that if they weren't in the empty hallway he definitely would not have heard it. He squinted to try and see who was asking him but all he could see was a small blur. He sucked his teeth quietly, cursing his terrible vision.

"Uh...y-yeah, I dropped my contacts and I kind of need them to see..." he said blushing a bit at his helpless state.

Ceres nodded once hearing his words and then bent down and proceeded to get closer to the ground in search of his contacts.

Hayden just stared blankly in surprise. Who was this girl and why was she helping him?

"I think I found them..." Ceres muttered and Hayden once again turned his head in her direction. Her voice sounded familiar? And then he thought back to when he had bumped into Ceres and it became clear to him that this was the same girl who he bumped into the other day.

Ceres grabbed the water bottle that was in her bag and proceeded to gently wash the dirt off of the contacts with it.

"I have to get to class now, but here you go" Hayden reached up to grab the contacts from Ceres and after she dropped them in his hands, her footsteps shuffled away quickly and soon enough he could no longer hear them.

"Oh" was all I could say as I finally remembered where we had met. If it wasn't clear by now, I didn't have the best memory.

"It's no big deal" I muttered and he shook his head.

"It is to me. I had been looking for a while and there were other students passing by who didn't bother to help me. But despite being late for class you stopped to help me" he said and I just nodded, not really knowing what else to say.

"We should go before the next class comes in" I said and Hayden seemed to finally realize that we were the only two still in the classroom.

After that, I hadn't seen either of my group mates for the rest of the day and it was back to being just me and Diana.

"Have you thought about coming over?" She asked while we sat together at lunch. I nodded my head as I had truly been thinking about it.

"I want to...I just have to ask first" I said and Diana squealed.

"Awesome!! My dad won't mind, he always wants me to bring friends over but I've never really been able to do that until now" she said and I gave her a small smile.

Diana had texted me her address and once I got home, I was on the search to find Papa.

"Is Papa home?" I asked Ares who was in his room. He seemed to be reading something and I squinted a little to see it. It was the cookbook that Lance had gotten him but when he saw me come in, he tossed it across the room.

I looked at him weirdly but didn't question it.

"Uh, no. He's at work. You need something?" Ares asked and I nodded.

"I need permission" I said and Ares rose his perfectly shaped eyebrow.

"Permission? For what?" He asked.

"A sleepover..." I mumbled and Ares' eyes widened before letting out a grin.

"Well, I'll be damned. You're finally making friends!" Ares said with a chuckle and I frowned at him before leaving the room, deciding that I would be better off finding Lance or Kade.

However, both were at work so I decided to look for Roman who was in his room as usual.

"Roman?" I said as I peeked my head into his room. Roman turned from his desk and looked at me.

"Yes?" He said and I stepped further into the room.

"Uh...I was invited to a sleep over and I want to go..." I said and although a look of surprise crossed his face, it disappeared as a soft smile graced his lips.

"That's fine but I just need to speak with the parents. I don't feel comfortable sending you over without doing so" he said and I nodded before calling Diana.

Once telling her what Roman told me, I handed him the phone and waited as Roman and Diana's dad talked.

"Well, that sounds fine. It's also a school night so please make sure they do their homework first" Roman said and I quietly let out a laugh.

Despite Diana's dad being far older than Roman, he was speaking as if he were the older one.

"Alright then. I'll bring her over later" Roman said before hanging up and handing me the phone.

"Okay, you're good to go" he said and I smiled.

"Thank you" I said before heading out of his room to pack a small bag. I packed my onesie, an emergency change of clothes, toiletries, and other necessities I may need for the night.

Once I finished, I made sure my school work was also in the bag before heading off to find Roman who was downstairs and ready to go.

The drive to Diana's house was surprisingly short and it turns out we didn't live too far from each other. Once we pulled up, I unbuckled my seatbelt.

"Hold on. Before you go, please promise me that you'll do your work. I won't be there to make sure you won't get rid of it again" he said with a stern look and I nodded.

"I promise" I said looking into his stern blue eyes. As if Diana would even let me, she was a hard worker and made sure that I stayed up to date on the classwork and homework.

Roman's eyes softened and a smile found its way to his lips.

"Alright then. Have fun and don't stay up too late. We're all just a call away if you need anything" Roman said before reaching over a placing a kiss on my forehead.

I nodded at his words before waving.

"I'll see you tomorrow" I said before getting out of the car and heading up to Diana's door.

I didn't even need to press the doorbell because Diana was waiting eagerly for me at the window and rushed over once she saw me coming up.

"Come on in!" She said and I nodded.

I was here at my first sleepover. I was nervous yes but I was also excited to be here. Hopefully everything went well.

Kade sighed in relief as he was finally home after another stressful day of work. He had planned to invite his siblings to watch a movie as a relaxation method once he got home and went in search of them.

He had found his younger brothers, but Lance and Ceres were no where in sight. Now Lance not being home wasn't unusual, but not seeing Ceres alarmed Kade.

"Where's Ceres?" Kade asked as he walked back into the living room where his brothers were seated on the couch, ready to watch a movie.

"At a sleep over" Roman said and Kade felt like his heart had fell out of its cage.

"A-A sleepover?!" He exclaimed as he ran in front of Roman's line of sight. Max groaned as he knew that chaos was about to ensue and Ares couldn't help but chuckle.

Roman looked at Kade with a nonchalant look on his face.

"Yeah, I spoke to the father of her friend so it's fine" he said and Lucas winced when hearing Kade shriek.

"No it is not fine! What if they invite boys to this sleepover? Or talk about them?! What if this sleepover is just a party in disguise?!" Kade cried.

Ares scoffed as Lucas interjected.

"Do you honestly think Ceres would go to a party willingly?" He asked and Kade frowned.

"You're right...my baby has been tricked! I have to go and-"

Kade was just about ready to run out of the house and crash the sleep over when Max beat him to the door with an accusing finger.

"Listen here you sorry excuse of an older brother. This is Ceres' first opportunity at having a normal teen life and I'll be damned if you and your stupid antics ruin it. So sit down and watch the fucking movie or we're going to have a problem" Max said and for the first time, Kade actually complied and went to sit down but not without a dramatic huff and a cross of his arms.

"You know, now that you mention it, I think Ceres did say some boys were going to be there" Ares said. Of course he was lying but he loved to see Kade getting worked up and when he saw Kade's entire being go rigid, he knew his taunting words had worked.

Max glared at Ares who in turned just gave an amused grin.

"Man they must be having the time of their-"

Ares didn't get to finish his sentence as a pillow was thrown directly at his face, courtesy of Max.

"It isn't a big deal. It's just a sleepover" Lucas said with a sigh.

"What's this about a sleepover?"

Everyone froze when hearing Lance's voice coming into the conversation and Max backed away quietly so as to avoid his oldest brother's killer stare.

"Hey there buddy, when did you get home?" Ares said with a nervous chuckle.

"Just now. Now what's this about a sleepover?" Lance said as he threw an accusing glare at all of his siblings.

All of the brothers pointed at Roman who just sighed as he had been ratted out.

Some brothers he had.
