Chapter Forty Two

"Alright, everyone. Wakey, wakey, eggs and mother fuckin' bakey! We got a house to clean, let's go up and at em'!" I groaned when hearing the loud sound of pots clanging together mixed with Ares' loud voice.

"I know you're not serious right now!" I heard Max yell.

I looked over at the time and saw that it was just barely 7 in the morning and frowned. Couldn't he wait until later? I groaned and put my pillow over my head as I heard the sound of Ares' shouting get louder.

"Good morning my beautiful kiddo that I love so dearly. It's time for you to wake up" I heard Ares say as the door opened and for a split second, I considered playing dead.

"If you don't wake up, I'll send in reinforcements" Ares said and I turned my head to look at him and he was just smiling at me but there was a mischievous look in his eyes.

"Why are you waking us up so early...?" I grumbled as I tried to keep my eyes open but I continued to find myself falling in to the temptation known as sleep.

"We are doing some spring cleaning!" He cheered and for a second I thought I was having that dream again where all my brothers were acting weird. Cleaning and Ares didn't sound like something that would go in the same sentence.

I'd expect this from Kade if anything or even Roman. Not Ares.

"Are you alright...?" I asked, hoping that this was a dream that I was going to wake up from in about a couple seconds.

"I'm fine, I'm fine. Now seriously, get up or else I will bring Kade in here" He said with a wink before leaving and I just frowned.

I gave a short yawn as I stumbled out of bed. I was still pretty tired but I tried to stop thinking about it as I went to go brush my teeth.

"Come on Maxi, just because you're 18 now doesn't mean you get to skip out on chores" I heard Kade say as I passed by Max's room.

Max's birthday was a couple days ago and he insisted that we do nothing for his birthday. He isn't a fan of birthday parties and stuff like that and would much rather spend his time as normal. Papa and Lance made a video call to wish him a happy birthday which he was very happy about.

As for his birthday presents, it was basically just a new haul of art supplies from everyone but I gave Max a plush of a fish that I thought resembled him.

He didn't agree but he accepted it nonetheless.

Speaking of plushies, my room seemed to be overflowing with them now. It was more of my doing since I tend to purchase a lot of them online (online shopping is amazing), but my brothers would also every now and then add to my collection.

I had nearly tripped over one the other day. Maybe Ares was right, it is time for some spring cleaning.

After brushing my teeth, I went downstairs and saw Kade and Ares standing like drill sergeants while the others were just sitting on the couch looking tired out of their minds. I took a seat next to Roman who was basically asleep as he leaned his head back on the couch.

"Okay, so we have the Kitchen, Dining, Living, Laundry, Bath, Dad's study, the attic, and all of our own rooms to clean. We will split up in pairs to make this more faster" Ares explained.

"This is gonna take all fucking day" Max grumbled.

Kade ignored Max's comment and had begun to explain what everyone was going to be doing.

"Max and Ceres, you guys can take the Dining, Living, Dad's Study, as well as your own rooms"

"Roman and I will take the Kitchen, Laundry, Dad's room and our rooms"

"And finally Ares and Lucas, you guys will be cleaning the bathrooms as well as your own rooms and Lance's room. Oh, and the attic"

At the mentioning of the attic, Ares turned his head to Kade.

"Hold on woah! Can't you and Roman take the attic?" Ares protested and Kade frowned.

"What's wrong with you cleaning the attic?" He asked and Max started chuckling.

"He's a little punk that can't handle a spider web or two" he said and Ares glared.

"So how about you two take the attic, huh?" Ares said while still throwing a glare but it was gone once Kade smacked him upside his head.

"I don't want Ceres up there. The attic isn't a safe place for her" Kade said.

"But you'll send us up there..." Lucas said sourly.

"Well, of course. You two are the more muscle guys of us after all" He said and Ares and Lucas both looked at each other before rolling their eyes.

And now, the spring cleaning has begun.

THIRD P.O.V.

~ With Ceres and Max ~

The dining room had been relatively for the two youngest as all they really had to do was wipe down the table and other surfaces. They teamed up to tackle the windows and after, mopping the floor.

However, their father's study was the real challenge as they both stood in the entrance of the room looking at the papers and books that were all over the place.

"This shit is fucking nasty...how the hell does he let it get like this?" Max said as he stepped in to the room, not even caring that he was probably stepping on important documents.

"We should start with picking up the papers" Ceres said as she bent down to pick up the papers by the entrance. Max had begun to help her and the two were at it for a good while before Ceres stopped.

"Ow..." she muttered as she looked at her finger that was now bleeding.

Even though she had said it pretty lowly, Max was still alert and he frowned when he saw Ceres looking at her finger.

"Paper cut?" He asked and she nodded. He stood up and went to his father's desk where he knew he had bandaids and alcoholic gauze pads because their father also often got paper cuts.

"Let me see" Max said as he gestured for Ceres to show him her hand. Max went to clean the blood and apologized when seeing the pained look on Ceres' face.

After cleaning and putting the bandaid on her finger, Ceres gave him a thankful smile.

"Thank you" she said and Max nodded before going back to picking up their father's papers.

After neatly stacking the papers on his desk, they began to dust all the shelves. After doing that they put the books that were scattered around back onto the shelves.

"Okay, I think we're finished" Max said as he wiped some sweat off his brow. As it was now May, it was starting to get hotter and Max wasn't looking forward to the heat.

"Let's start on your room" Max said as they exited their father's study and Ceres pursed her lips.

She thought that should probably warn Max about the stuffed animals she left laying around but it was already too late as Max walked in and slipped on a plush.

"Fuck!" Max cursed as his bottom hit the ground and Ceres gave him an apologetic smile.

"Sorry..."

~ with Kade and Roman ~

"You're so beautiful! So shiny!" Kade said as he gazed into the spoon he had just cleaned and Roman frowned.

"Are you talking to the silverware?" He asked and Kade turned to his brother with a smile.

"Of course not, I'm talking about me!" He cheered and Roman deadpanned realizing that Kade was gazing at his own reflection in the spoon.

"Unbelievable..." Roman muttered as he went back to cleaning his portion of dishes.

The two had been cleaning all of the plates, silverware, and glass dishes and once they were finished, they cleaned the stove and countertops.

The laundry room didn't take too long as all they had to do was sweep and place the detergents back in a more neatly manner.

Now it was time to clean their Dad's room and once they stepped in, Roman looked at the mostly neat room.

He noticed that there wasn't really much to clean because their father hardly ever stayed in his room for too long. Only to sleep and then he'd be gone for most of the day. Roman had even noticed dust building up on the top of his dresser.

Roman sighed before getting started on the cleaning.

Once the two finished, they headed over to Roman's room but once they went inside, a shriek left Kade's lips.

"What?!" Roman exclaimed and he watched as Kade ran to something that was on the floor.

"Why is the picture of me that I gave you for your birthday on the floor?!" He asked as he clutched the picture to his chest.

"I don't know" Roman said with a shrug while keeping the real answer to himself.

He had honestly completely forgotten about the photo after he knocked it over by accident and he just left it there.

"Something this precious should be preserved, not tossed to the side like Thursday's trash!" Kade whined.

"Okay, okay. I get it, now can we clean?" He asked and Kade gave a fake sniffle.

"No one appreciates me in this house" he said and looked to Roman to see if he was buying his fake crying act but when he saw Roman just looking at him, he frowned.

"Fine" Kade dragged out the word and Roman nodded.

The two had begun cleaning and when Kade reached the window, he looked at the small plants that Roman has been tending to over time.

"They're so beautiful" Kade muttered and Roman thought that he was talking about himself again but when he saw Kade looking at the flowers, he smiled.

"Yeah, I've been meaning to show Ceres for some time now but it keeps slipping my mind" He said and Kade hummed before taking one last look and continuing to clean his parts.

~ with Lucas and Ares ~

"Man, we're hardly ever allowed in here" Ares said as he looked at all the stuff around Lance's room.

"No, not we. You." Lucas said as he watched Ares touch a trophy that sat on Lance's dresser.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Ares said and Lucas raised an eyebrow.

"You're always touching stuff as you are doing right now" Lucas said and Ares removed his hand from the trophy.

"And you're always breaking things" He finished and this time Ares frowned.

Sure he could admit to touching because he was a curious soul, but breaking?

"I don't break things!" Ares said and Lucas nodded.

"Yeah, sure" Lucas said in a sarcastic tone before going back to wiping down Lance's dresser.

"I don't break things...stupid Lucas" Ares grumbled as he leaned again Lance's desk and he felt his butt hit something. Ares turned only to see something falling on the ground and break.

His eyes widened when he saw what had broken and paled when thinking of how angry Lance would be when he found out.

"See what I...said" Lucas trailed off upon seeing the broken gift on the floor.

The gift that Ceres had gotten for him his birthday. It was just a snow globe but Lance treasured it as if it were a newborn baby.

And now the baby was broken on the floor.

"I-...." Ares could barely let out a sentence and Lucas just sighed.

"I don't know how you're gonna get yourself out of this one buddy. Good luck with that" He said before retreating to his side.

"Lucas! You gotta help me here!" Ares cried and Lucas shook his head.

"Nope. Not helping" Lucas said and Ares latched onto his younger brother's arm.

"C'mon, you're my brother! What kind of brother would you be if you didn't help me?" He asked and Lucas frowned.

"A smart one" He said as he shrugged his arm out of Ares' hold. Ares frowned before looking back at the snow globe on the ground.

When seeing the helpless look on Ares' face, Lucas gave an irritated sigh before walking over to Ares who just gave him googly eyes when seeing that Lucas had given in.

"Clean it up and make sure there's no glass left. We can go to the store tomorrow and replace it before Lance gets back" He said and Ares nodded.

"I knew you would help! That's why you're my favorite" Ares cheered and Lucas gave him a glare.

Hearing that he was Ares' favorite didn't make him happy at all, especially since the older man always seemed to rope him into some kind of trouble.

The two quickly cleaned Lance's room before heading to clean their own rooms.

"Oh what the fuck?! Lucas, why is that stick moving?!" Ares yelled as he saw something on the window ceil moving. He thought it was just a tiny branch that had fallen in from outside but when it started moving on it's own, that's when Ares started freaking out.

"Oh, it's just a walking stick bug. It's harmless just shove it back outside" Lucas said and Ares was appalled at the idea of touching it.

"You want me to do what?" He asked rhetorically and Lucas sighed.

"You're such a baby you know that?" Lucas said as he brushed the bug back outside before closing the window.

Ares heaved a sigh of relief when the bug was finally gone.

"Call me what you want but I'm not taking any chances with any kind of bugs. Kill them all I say" Ares said and Lucas sighed.

He wondered how much complaining he would have to hear once the two reached the attic.

If Ares ever made it up there.

The two had finished cleaning their rooms and now that it was time to clean the attic, Ares was as still as a statue as he watched Lucas pull down the ladder.

"Let's go" Lucas said and Ares just remained standing.

"I'm not going up there" he said and Lucas rolled his eyes before grabbing Ares' arm and dragging him up the stairs.

"Let go of me!" Ares exclaimed as he tried to pry his arm out of Lucas' grip but it just wasn't budging. The entire way up he struggled and Lucas was more than tempted to let him go just to watch him fall down the stairs.

But that would be too easy.

"Would you open your eyes you big baby?" Lucas said as soon as they were in the attic and Ares opened up one eye only to gasp at the sight of cobwebs.

"I think I'm gonna hurl" Ares muttered and Lucas sighed.

"Just pick up a broom and start sweeping. I'll deal with the cobwebs" he said and just ignored Ares' googly eyes.

The two were able to get through a lot of the dust and had just cleaned off the things that were in there before putting them back neatly in it's original space.

Once he was finished, Lucas walked over to ask Ares if he was done but frowned when he saw a spider perched on his back. Out of instinct, Lucas smacked it and maybe just a little too hard because Ares yelped when feeling the hit.

"What'd you do that for?!" Ares exclaimed and Lucas shrugged his shoulders while wiping his hand on his pants.

"No reason" He said and Ares glared.

"Right because that's what we do now" he said.

"Are you finished?" Lucas asked and Ares shook his head.

"I just have this last corner. You know, I'm surprised that we still have these toys, I thought we got rid of them years ago" Ares said as he picked up a toy fire truck but his eyes widened as a spider crawled out of it and he let out a screech.

Ares clearly wasn't thinking straight as he tried to shake off the spider but forgot the toy truck was in his hands the truck hit him in the head.

"Ow!" Ares groaned and dropped the truck.

Lucas just watched from the sidelines as he waited for Ares' episode to be over. He couldn't believe that this was supposed to be his role model growing up, thank goodness for Roman and Lance.

Yeah, not Kade either considering he had a screw loose at times. Both him and Ares weren't exactly good examples in Lucas' mind.

"Are you done?" Lucas said.

"Am I done? Why yes Lucas, I'm almost done dying. Sorry that me dying is wasting your time" Ares said and Lucas rolled his eyes, which he seemed to be doing a lot today.

Being stuck with Ares for so long does that to a person.

"C'mon, can we just finish the corner? I'm hungry and might actually die if I don't eat" Lucas said and Ares just nodded and so the two finished off the last corner before heading back downstairs.

When they had came into the living, they saw that everyone was already finished with their own chores.

"You guys are finally- oh my god, what the hell happened to you?" Kade's mouth dropped when seeing the bright red bump on Ares forehead.

Lucas was about to explain when Ares gave him a look.

"Not a word" he said and Lucas frowned.

Now that would be two secrets he'd be holding for Ares today.
