#17. RuVi-Veer: His Birthday

It's a fine day -- A Sunday Morning. The Singhania Mansion is quiet compared to the other days. Today is no other day, but the special day of the owner of the house.

The Singhania Mansion stands tall in the Happy Home Society and is home to many people irrespective of their caste, creed, religion or language. The bungalow belongs to an ace businessman - Vineet Singhania. He is a middle-aged man in his late forties. He is the CEO of Singhania Associates. He is happy in his life with his wife-- Ruhana Singhania. They are blessed with a son, whom they have named Veer Singhania.

The father and son share the same birthdate. The boy is away from home and his beloved father is sad. Ruhana enters the room with two cups of coffee. She finds her husband sitting silently on the balcony. She walks towards him and sets the tray on the small table beside him. She hugs him putting her arms around his neck.

"Aaj kyun udaas ho? Aaj toh special din hain." Ruhana says softly.

"As if you don't know! Veer is not home. Hamesha hum dono ek sath celebrate karte they." Vineet says.

"Aww! Wo saamne rehta hain toh dikhaate nahi ho lekin uske peeche se usko miss bhi karte ho! Not bad, Mr Singhania." Ruhana says with a smile.

"Ruu, main bhi toh Veer se utna hi pyar karta hoon jitna ki tum. Wo bhi toh kuch share nahi karta par uske actions sab bata dete hain." Vineet says, he's missing his son.

"Han, baap bete ka birthday ek din kya ho gaya, mujhe toh bhul hi jaate hain dono." Ruhana makes a face at her husband.

"Aisa kab hua? Tum dekho, tumhare bete ne promise kia tha wo aaj aa jayega." Vineet says.

"Tum dono baap bete aisa hi karte ho, Vineet. Arey, wo meeting ke liye hi gaya hai na. Tum hi chahte they Veer handle kare. Tum meri tarah behave mat karo." Ruhana says making a face and sipping coffee.

"Arey par...." Vineet says but Ruhana cuts him.

"No par! I also miss him, Vineet. Uski kami mujhe bhi khal rahi hain. Aaj ka din mere liye bahut khaas hain. Veer aa jayega jaldi hi. Tum aise udaas rahoge toh main bhi udaas ho jaungi. Aur aaj ka din main aise hi udaas hoke nahi guzaarna chahti. " Ruhana says.

Well, staying away from their child is equally painful for both parents. Veer is a fresh business graduate and he started with his dad in the business. For a new deal, Vineet insisted Veer handle it so that he can get some experience. The young lad agrees to go to Delhi where he has to attend the deal.

Due to some issues, Veer has to elongate his two-day stay and he's not with his parents on his birthday. Ruhana and Vineet are a bit sad, Ruhana is upset because she wanted to celebrate the day with her precious men while Vineet is sad because his son is not with him Usually, they go on outings or Ruhana cooks their favourite cuisines. Veer parties with his friends during the day while at night he spends the day with his parents. When the boy was small, they used to throw parties, but now, it's a simple family affair. Even Veer likes it that way.

Ruhana and Vineet are lost in their thoughts when the doorbell rings. It breaks their trance and they smile at each other -maybe, Veer is back home. Ruhana moves to open the door and Vineet too follows her. There's Vineet's childhood friend Dushyant on the door. He's there along with his wife. Ruhana lets them enter in and Vineet's face falls for once seeing him. He covers it up with a smile as Dushyant and his wife, Priyanka greet him for his day.

"Arey, kya hua? Not happy to see me?" Dushyant raises his eyebrows at his best friend.

"Aisa nahi hain yar! Thanks for coming." Vineet says with a smile.

"Nai nai, batao kya hua? Main toh tujhe wish karne aaya tha lekin tera muh kyun latka hai?" Dushyant asks softly.

"Hoga kya? Veer ko miss kar rahe hain." Ruhana says.

"Oh! Toh wo aaya nahi abhi tak? Tum toh keh rahi thi kal raat tak aa jayega?" Priyanka asks her friend.

"Nahi Pree, kuch wajah se meeting extend karni padi. Ab aaj meeting hain. I hope wo raat tak laut aaye. Nahi toh Vineet aise hi sad rahega" Ruhana says, even though she is missing her son.

"Arey, aa jayega. Tab tak hum log party karte hain. What say?" Priyanka suggests.

"Good idea! Tum dono aaj yahin ruk jaao. Maza aayega." Ruhana chuckles.

It's Sunday, so Dushyant and Priyanka agree to stay. Vineet also smiles and agrees with his friends. He can't do anything other than waiting for his son. The four friends have a great time together. They're on the terrace sipping their coffee after lunch.
Since Priyanka, Dushyant, Vineet and Ruhana are college buddies, so they didn't realise the time they spent talking. Vineet is also looking cheerful now. Ruhana is also happy, that her beloved hubby is happy. She has also prepared food for her son, maybe, he'll be back by night. They could celebrate for some hours together.

It's evening now, Priyanka and Dushyant tend to leave but Vineet asks them to stay. But upon learning about Dushyant's mom that she is unwell and they need to check on her, Vineet lets them go. As their friends leave, Ruhana locks the door and asks Vineet to come up with her on the terrace. He denies it at first but then agrees upon his wife's insistence. They walk up the stairs and step out on the terrace. As they step out, both Vineet and Ruhana are flabbergasted at the moment.

The whole terrace is beautifully decorated with fairy lights, balloons and a mild, sweet, fruity fragrance. They look at each other and Vineet asks Ruhana if she has done this but she denies it softly. Meanwhile, they hear a melodic voice - singing a birthday song.

"Happy Birthday to you!"

Ruhana and Vineet are surprised to see their son - Veer standing in front of them.

The young boy smiles and holds Vineet's hand and takes him towards a table set in the middle of the terrace. There's a pineapple cake settled on the table. Vineet is overwhelmed at the moment. He looks at his parents and Ruhana is surprised.

"Veer, beta tum kab aaye?" Ruhana is surprised at the moment.

"Aaj dopahar mein, Mumma. Aur fir aake ye sari taiyari ki." Veer smiles at her parents.

"Toh bataya kyun nahi tumne? Main kab se intezar kar raha hoon." Vineet says softly.

"Dad, main aapke liye surprise plan kar raha tha. Ab agar bata deta toh surprise ka kya sense?" Veer smiles at his dad.

"Tumhare dad subah se hi miss kar rahe hain tumhe. I am glad you are back. Happy Birthday, Son." Ruhana says and pulls Veer in a gentle hug and kisses his head.

"I missed you too, Maa and Dad. Lekin aap log hi kehte hain ki kaam zaroori hain. Toh kaam hi kar raha tha. Lekin ab I'm back." Veer smiles.

"Thank god! Ab tumhare dad ka mood thik ho jayega. I'm relieved!" Ruhana says, sighing deeply.

"Arey Mom! Mujhe pata hain Dad se zyada aapne mujhe miss kia hai. But, let's cut the cake." Veer says, chuckling at the moment.

Both Vineet and Veer cut the cake and Ruhana clicks their picture. There's a joyful smile on their faces seeing which Ruhana feels happy. She clicks some more pictures when Veer pulls her holding her hand.

"Aap kya dekh rahi ho? I mean you should be in the picture." Veer says.

"Main toh tum dono mein hi hoon na! Tumhare dad ko express karna nahi aata lekin unke chehre ki hasi sab bata rahi hain." Ruhana adores her husband.

"I know Ma, he loves me the most. Bas kehte nahi, kabhi jatate nahi. Infact, main bhi toh nahi karta. But, truly, I love you, Dad. Happiest Birthday. And this is for you." Veer says as he keeps a file in his hand.

Vineet flips the pages and is happy to know that his son has bagged the deal and it's the first one in Veer's name. Any father would feel elated to learn of his child's achievements, and so is Vineet. He pulls Veer in a bear hug and Ruhana adores the duo.

"I am so proud of you. Sach mein, this is a dream come true." Vineet says.

"Aapne mujhpe trust kiya, toh ye toh karna hi tha, Dad. I promise, I won't let you down ever." Veer says ever so softly.

Vineet pats his back, he's surely proud of Veer. Meanwhile, Ruhana tugs her arms in both of their's . They look at her.

"Tum dono ne toh celebrate kar liya. Ab zara main bhi celebrate karun, apne pati aur bete ka birthday. Neeche chalein, dinner is waiting for the birthday boys. Aur aaj ka special cake bhi!" Ruhana looks at the two men.

"Yes Mom! Let's go!" Veer says.

The trio run down the stairs and head to the dining room. The table is laid with dinner and Ruhana serves the handmade cake to them. Both the father and son cut the cake and feed it to each other and then to Ruhana. Veer rushes to freshen up in his room. And meanwhile, Vineet turns to Ruhana and thanks her for everything she does for him.

"Main jo karti hoon, apne liye karti hoon. Tum dono toh mera hi hissa ho, alag se kuch karne ki zaroorat kahan hain?" Ruhana smiles.

"Phir bhi! I can't even return the love you give me." Vineet says,

"Tum mere sath 10 minute bhi bita loge, kaafi honge mere liye, Vineet. Aur Veer se bhi! Tum dono mere pas, mere sath ho, aur kuch nahi chahiye mujhe." Ruhana says and hugs him, keep her head on his chest.

They embrace each other and unknown to them, Veer clicks their pictures, he loves it when his parents comfort each other. He rush to hug them and they together click a selfie. Later this family have dinner with lots of giggles and joy.

It's surely the best and most beautiful day for Vineet and his family!
