But sometimes, you aren't given a choice. Vincent Reed never was.

Saying goodbye to Robby Keene was one of the hardest things that Vincent had ever done. There was no one who understood him quite like Robby. He was his best friend, his confidant, and the only person he felt like he could truly trust. They thought that there was nothing that could tear them apart and when the summer before high school came to an end, they found that to be untrue. It was supposed to be Robby and Vincent forever, but forever just didn't last.

That summer, Vincent had fallen in love and little did he know, Robby had fallen for him too. Vincent left that last day of summer, never telling Robby how he felt about him. He had regretted it ever since and dreamed of the day where he would see him again.

Vincent didn't think he'd ever return to the Valley, but life seems to have a funny way of working out. After losing his grandmother, Vincent returns with his younger sister to live with their mother who seemed to care more about drinking than she did her own children.

Things weren't the same in the Valley since the last time Vincent was there. Life was different now. Vincent wasn't the same person he once was, and he soon discovers that Robby isn't either. Even though everything was completely different, Vincent vowed to himself to finally tell Robby how he felt.

But the thing about life is that it doesn't always guarantee happiness. Sometimes, love just isn't enough.

this fic is going to hurt. i'll tell you that right now. i'm sure you gathered that from the summary and the fact that it's titled after family line by conan gray AND that i used an asoue quote.

there's also the fact that there's lots of conan gray in the playlists for this fic and that vincent and myra are heavily inspired by the baudelaire siblings from asoue.

i've kind of been wanting to publish this fic for a while, but never did. well, it's here now. so i hope you enjoy it!
