Ch. 12
Hey guys! So from now on there's gonna be quite a bit of time jumps. I don't have the mental capacity to do like eight years worth of their lives 😂😂 also if this chapter has any mistakes I'm sorry. I didn't really have time to proofread. But I hope you enjoy!
"Alright people listen up! I want everything to be perfect for my daughter's birthday party tonight! Here are the rules: Be nice to my daughter, or I will rip your throats out." Astrid smiled sweetly to the people of Berk. "That's all."
Hiccup face palmed, attempting to hide his blush from the crowd. "Oh good gods," he chuckled.
Valka, who was sitting beside him, chuckled as well. "I was the same way on your presentation day. I probably would have been like that on birthdays as well..."
Hiccup shook his head. "I just can't believe she's gonna be three already!" He exclaimed. "It literally feels like yesterday that she was born."
"Get used to it, son. It'll always feel like that. No matter how old they get."
"Speaking of Zephyr, I'd better go to the house and make sure she's alright."
Astrid turned her head over to look at them. "Hiccup Zephyr usually doesn't wake up for another hour."
"I know, but I just want to check on her." He smiled.
Astrid smiled as well. She couldn't help but love Hiccup's protectiveness over Zephyr. She had always figured he would be a great father, and she had been right.
"Oh I'll go check on her son," Valka stood. "You've got party planning to do."
"Sounds good."
Astrid noticed something out of the corner of her eye, and snapped out of her daydreams.
"Hey! That's my daughter's birthday cake you're frosting!! No rushing!"
*****************
Valka walked into the nursery to see little Zephyr sitting in her bed, crying.
"Awe, Zeph." Valka was instantly glad she had followed her instincts. She'd had a feeling. She went over to Zephyr and scooped her up, the little girl instantly clinging to her.
"I was scared." She whimpered, nuzzling her little head on her shoulder.
Valka couldn't help but make a pouty face. "Did mommy and daddy leave you all alone?"
"Yea." Zephyr nodded.
"Oh, dry those tears little one. Let's go find daddy."
"Okay." The little girl whimpered. Like her mother, she wasn't much of a morning person and she didn't have much to say.
So Valka made her way back to the great Hall in search of her son. On the way there she passed Fishlegs, who squealed 'Happy Birthday!' to her.
Hiccup was exiting the doors just as Valka reached the top of the stairs.
"Hiccup, someone wants you."
He looked up and saw Zephyr's tear stained cheeks. "Awe, what's a matter pumpkin?"
Zephyr leaned away from Valka and into Hiccup's arms. She loved her grandmother, but her father's arms were her favorite. He felt more secured and he was also taller, so she could see more of the world.
"She was just scared, Hiccup." Valka reassured him. "She woke up all alone and that's scary for a child."
Before Hiccup could reply someone came up to him, needing some paperwork or another signed. He switched Zephyr over to his hip and signed the paper with his other hand.
"I want mommy." Zephyr whimpered. Hiccup had been expecting this. It was Zephyr's thing in a way. She wanted to be held by all of her people first thing in the morning. He suspected it was her way of making sure they were all still here.
"Yea? Let's go find mommy then." Hiccup whispered something in his mother's ear, she nodded with a smile, then he turned to go back inside.
"Astrid, someone wants youuu!" He called.
Astrid turned from her party planning to see Hiccup and Zephyr heading towards her.
"Good morning, baby girl." She kissed her daughter's head before taking her into her arms.
"Why was she crying?"
"She woke up alone so she got a little startled. But she's fine."
Astrid sighed. "I can't believe how big she's getting."
"Me either."
Astrid sighed again and looked down. Hiccup instantly knew something was bothering her.
"What is it M'lady?"
"I just want this day to be perfect for her. What if something goes wrong?"
"Astrid, nothing is going to go wrong. Zephyr is going to have the best day ever!"
"Promise?"
Hiccup rolled his eyes and pulled her towards him, being careful not to squish Zephyr. He pecked her lips and pulled away with a smirk. "I promise."
********
Hiccup had been right. The birthday part was a complete success! Decorations covered the en to re great hall, Zephyr had absolutely love her birthday cake, and now had so many toys she had no room for them all. She was no running around with the other village children, a giant smile upon her face.
Hiccup and Astrid sat at the main table, they too smiling widely. They loved to see Zephyr so happy.
Hiccup turned to see Astrid giggling. "What?"
"It's just... look at her Hiccup." She smiled. "We made that beautiful little girl. We did that."
"Yes we did."
Zephyr came running over to her parents and climbed into Hiccup's lap.
"Well hello there, birthday girl." Hiccup chuckled.
"Hi daddy."
"Did you have a good birthday?"
"Yea!" She smiled. "The bestest birthday ever daddy!"
"What was your favorite present?"
Astrid jerked her head over to the table full of gifts.
"The one you and daddy gave me! The giant stuffed..um... thingy..."
"It's a dragon, Zeph." Hiccup laughed. "It's called a dragon."
"Yea that!"
Astrid laughed too. It had been a good day.
**************a few months later*************
Zephyr popped her head up as she heard a horrible noise from across the hall. It was the worst noise she had ever heard! What could it possibly be? The sassy little one groaned and tried her best to go back to sleep, but the sun streaming through her window wouldn't let her.
***
Hiccup rubbed his eyes as he stumbled into the bathroom. He gathered Astrid's hair and held it back for her as the wrenching continued.
"Again?"
Astrid sat back turned to face him, and wiped her mouth off with the back of her hand, tears in the corners of her eyes from the strength of the wretching. "Apparently. Ugh."
Hiccup yawned as he placed his hand on her forehead, then cupped her cheek. "Well you don't have a fever.."
Astrid smiled. "Well... that's because I'm not sick, Hiccup."
His eyes widened. "Wait...are you saying?"
"Zephyr's gonna be a big sister!"
"Oh my gods! Astrid!!"
Astrid had only seen that particular smile on Hiccup once before, and here it was again. Sprawled across his face and making her heart leap! He spun her around and kissed her, apparently not caring that she had just been puking.
"You're pregnant?!"
Astrid laughed. "Yes!"
"Holy yak! Oh my gods! Ahhhh!!!"
Hiccup simply couldn't believe it. They were going to have another baby!! Then he suddenly gasped.
"Ohhh boy..."
"What?"
"We gotta tell Zeph.."
