Chapter 50

Kenny Jenkins, the male nurse who helped Dana was handsome and a good listener too.

He listened to Dana, David and Eric pour out the details of the last three days between emotional tears and hugs and apologies.

"Why haven't you approached the police yet?" Kenny asked when they were done.

"You don't understand! These people are powerful and very careful. They have been doing this for years under everyone's noses." Dana said. "Even if they do believe us, I don't want my parents to be collateral."

"I usually don't make such promises but for you I will." Kenny said, getting to his feet. "Dana, I am going to get your parents out of there. One way or another."

Dana looked confused as Kenny, the handsome nurse got to his feet and delivered what would have been a heart warming speech if he hadn't been furiously texting in between.

"You don't understand. These are high profile serial killers." Dana said "You and I, we cant do anything."

"You can't." Kenny corrected her. "But I can."

"Special agent Kenny Jenkins." Kenny said holding out his hand formally to Dana. "I an working undercover for the FBI. We have been investigating mysterious deaths and disappearances in and around Lanchester and you have just given me the biggest break we have had in this case."

Dana looked at Kenny in surprise. She thought he was a nurse. Now he was an undercover FBI agent who was going to help her get her parents back? It was too good to be true! No to mention how  young and handsome he was.

"My men will be at the Maxwell mansion and will start infiltration soon." Kenny informed them when his phone beeped. "We will find your parents."

"I want to go there." Dana said. "I want to see my parents as soon as you bring them out."

"Me too." David said.

"And me!" Eric said sitting up. He looked so determined that nobody argued with him.

Williams was breathing hard. His only friend in Lanchester is now dead after everything he tried to do. He was about to loose more if he didn't act fast. Cristy hissed at him and indicated a control panel next to the container. It had some switches which were labled.

John looked impressed at Aaron, clapped and then turned to William and Cristy.

Cristy stood her place with her arms crossed. As William went to the set of controls near Leah's container. There seemed to be several ways to kill her just with the press of a button. Deciding to go with something slow to buy him some time, he turned on the water supply and it slowly began to fill the container.

"I'm sorry." William told Leah who was crying uncontrollably as water showered from above, drenching her immediately.

"Interesting choice." John said.

"So who do you choose?" Cristy asked John. Still standing in place with her arms crossed.

"You haven't finished yet." John said but Cristy shook her head and said. "I'm good at what I do. But I refuse to do this."

"You do realise what will happen to you if you refuse." John asked narrowing his eyes.

"I do." She replied calmly. There was dead silence in the room except for Leah hitting her chair in the side of the container to break free as it filled with water.

"I'll help you do what you need, DAD" Aaron said, coming forward eagerly with his belt in his hands and quickly threw it round Cristy's neck.

This was so unexpected that Cristy was caught off guard and fell to her knees while struggling to get out of his grip.

Before William could react however, John himself jumped forward with a crow bar hidden in his jacket and slammed it across Aaron's head.

Cristy fell to the floor, throwing the belt aside and gasping for breath.

Aaron pressed his hand in his bleeding head and gaped at John in shock.

"This is what you wanted!!" Aaron cried to John."I am only trying to help you!"

"You are way too impatient to run this business, Aaron. Goodbye." John said coldly as he slammed the crowbar on his head repeatedly until Aaron stopped moving.

Aaron's eyes were still open in horror. The dead stare was fixed on John, his mentor and father figure and now.....his murderer.

"Get rid of him." John told Helen who was watching from the Door in horror.

"Now, Cristy." John said turning his blood sprayed face towards Cristy. He no longer looked like that man who raised her, his eyes were dead from expressions. "I'm afraid that you have been disqualified."

Cristy did not flinch as John raised his close crowbar again to swing it at her. She gave William a final look before turning back to John.

"Not my daughter, you psycho!" Helen yelled and jumped on John who fell forward, hitting his head on the container in front of him where the little girl lay unconscious.

"What is wrong with you?" John said angry, dropping the crowbar to rub his head at the place of impact.

"I'm afraid you failed the test of being a father." Helen said before she swung the crowbar and hit his head twice. John's body lay limp as Helen threw the crowbar down.

"Take them and go." Cristy told William. She looked completely broken as she turned off the water flow into Leah's container. "Dana is in my old college apartment." William gave her a hug and their mother joined in. For the first time in days William felt enormous relief.

It was almost like a happy family moment, the three of them locked in embrace. But then the relief turned into pain as suddenly he felt his hair being pulled.

John wasn't dead, he grabbed the crowbar in one hand and pulled William away from them with another and shouted "you have all turned against me! After everything I did for you." His eyes were wide like a mad man.

John was also waving the crowbar close to his face. He needed to act now if he wants to live. Stepping on John's foot hard, he managed to slip out of his grip and threw a punch straight at John's nose.

John dropped the crowbar to cover his nose.

"Will!" Cristy called as she as Helen dragged Aaron's body into the container with Adam's body in it. William understood what needed to be done and threw another punch at John who staggered sideways.

"This feels good!" William said as he delivered another punch. John fell to the ground and begged him to stop.

"Darling, it's ok!" Helen said gently helping him to his feet. John was dazed and confused, got to his feet and followed her.

Suddenly he felt Helen vanish from his side. He was now standing alone next to Adam's dead body in the chair. Panicking, he turned around and tripped on Aaron's body on the floor.

He was in the container!!

He looked up in time to see Cristy pull a leaver and turned the incinerator on. Flames erupted from the floor inside the Container and he screamed in pain till everything was gone.

They watched the fire in the container for what felt like a long time unsure what to do next.

"FREEZE!"

"PUT YOUR HANDS WHERE I CAN SEE THEM"

William, Cristy and Helen all jumped as the cops arrived. They pointed the guns at them and they put up their hands.

"Shit!!" Cristy gasped.

William did not say anything as the cops grabbed his arms behind his back and threw him on the floor, the image of Derrick dying by his hand still clear in his mind.

"You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you...." the officer began reading his rights as he handcuffed him. From the corner of his eye he could see the same thing happening to Cristy and Helen.

He could hear Leah calling for him but he couldn't see her even as they dragged him to his feet and took him to the car.

It was the crack of dawn as they threw him into the back of the car and for the first time, William wasn't afraid of going to prison. His father is gone. He is now free.

As they drove away, Williams jumped and sat up straight. His head pressed against the window to make sure he really saw what he thought he saw.

Dana, David, Eric, Alice and Sophie were finally united and were hugging each other. Leah was on a stretcher and was being lifted into the Ambulance.

William watched as a team of men wearing hazard suits rushed past the car. He knew he had a long journey but a great weight had lifted off his chest and he felt he could handle whatever came his way.
