Chapter 49

Dana reached a familiar spot and stopped. Her excitement and determination had run out during her travel and nausea had returned.

Letting the bike fall to the ground she pulled off her helmet and ran to the side to throw up.

"Hey there! Are you alright?"

Dana turned around, wiping her mouth. A male nurse from the hospital across the road was walking towards her with a cup of coffee in his hand.

"I'm fine." Dana muttered, picking up her bike.

"Are you sure?" He asked pushing his blond hair back and giving her a small smile. She know she would be all over him if she wasn't so preoccupied.

"Can I offer you something to drink? You need to hydrate." He continued. "Or perhaps come in to cleanup." He added pointing at her vomit covered shoes.

"Oh yea!" Dana said, going red in the face. "Sure. Lemme just park this......"

Dana tried not to notice his well toned arms as he helped her move the bike. Not that she needed any help, but the extra set of hands helped her keep steady after that violent vomit session she had.

"I'm Kenny Jenkins, by the way." He said when he noticed her staring at his arms.

Dana went, if possible, redder.

"Dana Moore." Dana said wishing she would sound more confident considering the badass clothes she borrow from Cristy.

"Nice to meet you Dana Moore." He replied with a smile. They went inside and he took her to the waiting lounge where there was a vending machine. He put in some money and let Dana choose her drink.

"You don't look like a local, where are you from?" He continued as the vending machine slid out a bottle of water.

"Philadelphia." She said and then took a long gulp of water. "I'm just visiting someone here."

"Excuse me, I need to use the machine." Came a voice from behind them.

"Sorry, I didn't realise-" Dana broke off. She saw the boy and dropped everything in her hand and pulled him into a hug.

It was David!

"Davy!! I'm so glad you are ok!" She cried. "Wait, what are you doing in the hospital? Where is Eric and Cristy?"

"Long story, I'll take you up to meet Eric." David said.

"I'll leave you guys to it then." Kenny Jenkins said handing her the things she had dropped.

"Thank you so much for your help." Dana said with a big smile. She didn't feel like saying goodbye to him just yet but she had more pressing matters to deal with.

Kenny gave her a wink before she turned to walk away.

When Dana reached the room where Eric was she bursted into tears. How could she let this happen!

David gave her a hug but didn't say anything.

They sat there for a while before Dana broke the silence.

"So what happened after you guys left?"

"It was awful!!" David said. He looked terrible too. "Cristy and William are part of that whole mess. I didn't get to see mom or dad but there were so many people imprisioned and I couldn't help them."

"I'm just glad that you and Eric got out." Dana said pulling him into another hug.

"Knock knock." Kenny said cheerfully popping his head through the door.

"Hey Kenny!" Dana said wiping away her tears quickly so Kenny wouldn't see.

"You forgot these so I though I'd bring it to you." He said handing her a set of bike keys.

"Thank you." Dana said her hand shaking slightly as she lifted it to take the keys.

"Hey, are you ok?" Kenny asked looking concerned.

"When can my brother be discharged?" Dana asked.

Kenny picked up Eric's file from the door and went through it.

"Looks like the doctor in charge can release him tomorrow but it looks like a nasty break, I would strongly suggest he spends at least a few days in the hospital."

"No! We need to leave tonight." Dana said tears pouring from her eyes again. She hated herself for crying in front of everyone. Must be all the hormones.

Kenny paused for a moment before he closed the door.

"Tell me everything." Kenny said sitting down next to Dana and holding her hand. Dana felt a sudden warmth and before she could stop herself she began to talk. She told him everything and David, following his big sister, continued where she left off.

"He is crazy!" William spat at Cristy and Aaron. John and Helen had left the room to give them time to decide what they want to do with their victims.

Cristy shook her head, looking away from the child. Aaron however did not take his eyes off his brother.

"He is my only family." Aaron said with a blank look on his face.

"I know." William muttered, looking at Leah. She was fully awake now and  sobbing.

"Will, I- I understand." She said between sobs.

"Understand??" William asked angrily. "You are the reason we are here in the first place." He didn't mean to blame her for it all but he couldn't do anything else.

"I didn't do it." She cried out. "I didn't cheat."

William looked at her, confused. Then his face went blank in shock. "Does that mean- are you- is that my?" If she didn't cheat on him, then the child must be his!

This made everything harder to do.

"Why did you lie to me? Why did you do everything that you did??" William said his voice dangerously low.

"William you need to know-" Leah began but was interrupted by Helen who had just arrived.

"I tried talking to him. He is determined. Nothing will change his mind." She said.

"Not even his grandchild?" William asked, pointing at Leah.

"Will!" Leah cried but William ignored her.

"He talks about family but that baby is family." William said.

"Oh dear!" Helen said looking sadly at Leah. "I'll talk to him again but I have never seen him like this before. Don't get your hopes up."

"William. This is dad we are talking about." Cristy whispered to him as Helen left. "Once he decides something, he won't budge. We have only one choice."

"What's that?" William asked.

"I'll tell you where Dana is, if you promise to take this child and get her out of here. Find her family and keep her safe." Cristy said.

William stared. "Fine."

"I'll finish Leah and let you take the credit. You will be the hero son and take over the business and do what you want with it." Cristy said in one breath.

"But that would mean-"

"I would die. Yes I know." Cristy said grimly.

"But Leah is pregnant, with my child." William said.

"I'm not!" Leah said sobbing. "I lied about that too!"

"Why would you do something like that?" William said furiously.

"I had no choice. Your father made me!" Leah cried. "He said he would make your life miserable if I didn't go with his plan and make you move to Lanchester."

"So you were a part of this?" William gasped at the women who was once the source of his happiness. Now he felt betrayed and like a fool. But then he realised something important. His father planned everything to force him to come to Lanchester. If Leah confessed, he could clear his name and Rob wouldn't be able to threaten him anymore.

"I'll do it. She just made it easier since she is not actually pregnant." Cristy said throwing Leah a side look with narrow eyes. "We will also need to make sure Aaron does not win."

"How?" William asked.

"Manner of killing I suppose would take priority for dad." Cristy said thinking hard.

William blinked and then said "You are not killing Leah."

"Choose, William!" Cristy said angrily. "Leah or Dana, her brothers AND this child in here. One ex girlfriend or three children and their parents."

William ran his fingers through his hair in frustration.

"I'm starting to loose patience people." John said in a bored voice as he returned.

"I don't know about them,-" Aaron said to John, his eyes wide as he began opening the door into Adam's container "-but I have always felt you are my only family."

He went inside and caught Adam's hair, pulling his head back and put a knife at Adam's throat. With a swift motion, slit his brothers throat. Blood sprayed everywhere as Adam opened his mouth soundlessly gasping for air before his head hung limp and he was dead.
