Chapter 26

William had to choose between running away before John came or staying with Adam and watching him die before he was killed.

He stood there confused, close to Adam but one foot had moved towards the exit.

"Go." Cristy said. "It's not him they are planning to kill."

"What do you want with him then?" He asked not moving from Adam's side.

"His brother works for us." Cristy began but was interrupted by William who looked extremely disgusted.

"His own brother did this to him?" He asked pointing at Adam's bandaged hand.

"No!" Cristy said frowning. "He wasn't even there that night."

"So why did you hurt him?"

"First of all, I did not!" Cristy said hotly. "And second, we did not know who he was until it was too late and now we are just trying to keep him alive before Aaron finds out."

"So who did this to him?" William asked hoping to get an answer this time. Praying it wasn't him.

"You know I can't answer that." Cristy said.

William put his hands through his hair and gripped it tight in frustration.

"You better go." Cristy said urgently after checking her phone. "Aaron needs our skills for something and we cannot deal with both of you now."

She turned to Adam and began to tie his hands and legs to the table. She then said. "He will live. Let's see what he does when he regains consciousness."

"Aaron needed their murderous skills?" William thought and suddenly realised who might be in danger.

Dana!

"I got to go. Don't let him die." William told her, quickly walking out of the room. He peered into the living room to make sure he did not run into anyone, especially John.

He was not ready to face John again. The last time they spoke it ended with a loud argument which got physical and one of them had accidentally pushed Cristy down the stairs rendering her unconscious.

He remembered the look on John's face as they glared at each other at the hospital. Helen didn't speak to him at all.

"He is going to be the death of our daughter." She told John when she thought William wasn't around.

Not wanting to cause any problems within that family he left without another word and never went back.

Cristy would email him but he would not reply. He loved Cristy like a sister and it was a difficult decision.

Now, after all these years, he found himself tangled in a mess with this family and Adam was the one getting hurt.

William went straight back to the hotel and to the phone. He needed help and there was only one person who knew everything about his relationship with John and could help.

Captain Roger Fields.

"William, do you know what time it is?" He answered sounding irritated.

"Sir, I need your help!" William began immediately, he told the captain everything that happened since he arrived in Lanchester.

"I had wondered why you dint send me any reports." The captain said grimly.

"I think there is another who is in danger." William said.

"As long as that family exists, someone will always be in danger." Captain said. "You need to come back to Lanchester. Forget the job, I'll see what I can do for you here."

"I can't leave her, she is just a child." William said.

"Then you need to talk to John. Tell him to back off." The captain said. William did not respond.

The silence told the captain a lot.

"Don't worry, I'll come with you." He said.

"But sir! He cannot find out about you. You could loose more than a job." William said.

"I already lost everything I cared about." The captain said suddenly sounding angry. "The least I could do is to stand with you during a tough time."

William was touched. "Thank you sir!"

"I'll leave first thing in the morning. Meanwhile you find that girl and keep an eye on her." He instructed.

Then was a click and the line disconnected.

******

Dana was scared but she quietly followed the mysterious lady out of there and got into the old truck parked at the side.

"Can you drive." The lady asked. Dana couldn't talk, her throat was dry so she nodded.

"Good. Now take the truck and go down the street to the very end. You will find a house with black door. Wait for me there." She instructed throwing Dana the keys to the truck. "Oh and do not turn on the headlights! You don't want to be noticed."

Dana caught it still looking confused. "But what about my mom?"

"I'm going back for her. Don't worry, my daughter is home and she will take care of you until I get your mom." The lady said with a smile.

Before Dana could ask her anything else, the lady turned and went back down the way they had just come.

Left with no other option, Dana drove carefully down the street being careful not to be seen or heard.

Not long she reached the end and could see a house with black doors. It was dark and she couldn't tell much about the place but the light above the entrance was enough to tell her she was in the right place.

She jumped out of the truck and ran to the door trembling all over and knocked on the door.

As she waited she looked around wondering if the lady was trustworthy. Something about her face was comforting.

The door opened interrupting her thoughts. It was the blond girl who helped her at the bar!

Dana froze in shock.

"Thank god you are safe!" Cristy said. But Dana took a step back.

"Come in! It's not safe outside." Cristy said urgently pulling her in and shutting the door behind them.

Dana dint have any idea what was happening. Cristy had given her a drink to pass out and now she was helping?

"I was so worried he got you, that's why I sent mom to look for you." Cristy explained.

"You drugged me!" Dana said backing away from Cristy.

"No!" Cristy said looking upset. "I had gone to get Aaron but when I got back you were gone but your bag was still at the bar. I just knew he took you."

"Who is 'he' and how did you know?" Dana asked, her eyes narrowing.

"It's a small town. Everyone knows everyone." Cristy said. "People disappear and you can't do anything about it unless you want to be next."

"Why did you help me?" Dana asked.

"Because I found this." She replied holding up the envelope Dana had kept to show Aaron.

Dana gulped.

"We don't like to get involved with things that are not our business." Cristy continued "but I felt a sense of responsibility when you disappeared."

"Thank you." Dana said.

"Come sit with me in the living room while we wait for your mother." Cristy said placing a hand round her shoulders.

******

Cristy has had a busy day, first getting Adam safely to John Maxwell's house. And secondly re-kidnapping Dana from the cells with the help of her mother.

What will she do now?

Meanwhile William has called for backup to help protect Dana.... He does not know she is already been kidnapped with most of her family.

What's going to happen next?!?!
