Training with the elements pt.2
Ruby, Blake, Marcy and Catra creep through an abandoned city in the darkness of night. Their ghosts being the only light source
Marcy: Does anyone else feel like we're being watched right now?
Blake: I don't see anything on our motion sensors.
Catra: Ah these things can't track a fly buzzing two inches from your face let alone a person sneaking around.
Ruby: I don't think we'll need our sensors to tell us where to go.
The novice hunter points at a small purple flag at the entrance of a collapsed building giving the group an object to reach. When they arrive at the flag, they see a symbol on it as the cloth flag dances in the wind
Blake: This is the place but... where's Andromeda?
Catra: Probably waiting in there for us.
Marcy: Or looking at us through...a sniper scope!!
Marcy rolls around in an attempt to dodge the bullets from a sniper that wasn't there
Catra:*groans rubbing her faceplate* Why did the light choose her?
Blake: We were all chosen for a purpose. To protect the Light and the Traveler. So it needs all of us to work together. No matter the class or if we have the light.
???: That is a virtue that's starting to become forgotten with guardians.
The voice made the group of Hunters shoot their gaze to the side seeing a crimson red and white clad hunter leaning against a destroyed wall
Andromeda: It doesn't matter what class we are or if we still have the Light in us. We're all stuck in this hellhole of a world and we need to work together. Now, are y'all ready to walk into the shadows on the path of the Light? If you are, hold out your iron and walk with me.
Marcy: Iron?
Andromeda: Your piece.
She pats a large revolver that rests at her side in it's pouch. It looked like it had seen battle. War.
Andromeda: The most important weapon in a Hunters arsenal. That and our wits. It's what keeps us alive. It's one of the meanings of what a Hunter stands for.
Ruby: What does it mean to be a Hunter?
Andromeda: ....walk with me.
Taking a step into the shadows, Andromeda looks back at the group of new lights and back at the darkness and walks into it. One by one they follow her, with Ruby looking at the Traveler before going inside the shadows. Andromeda's ghost lights up the room as she stood under it
Andromeda: What does it mean to be a Hunter? Hm. Well in the immortal words of Cayde-6: It's about where you belong. The warlocks have their libraries and Titans their walls...but Hunters belong in the wilds. If you wanna live out there you better have a quick shot or a sharp blade
She says as he pulls out a large knife from her side and holds it at an angle where her ghosts light reflects off the blade
Andromeda: A lot of us are loners but that's not the only path. Some of us know the difference a fire team makes. Some of us...we touch the void. Make it a part of us.
Andromeda's blade begins to illuminate with a purple glow. The light from her ghost shuts off and the only source of light comes from her blade
Andromeda: And then we take a name....Nightstalker.
In a swift motion, Andromeda uses her light to transform her knife into a longbow made from pure Void light. The group of trainees look at her in awe at the manipulation of Light
Andromeda: Hunt them down. Pin from the shadows. And NEVER let them see you coming.
Marcy: Andromeda?
Andromeda: Yes?
Marcy: Who is Cayde?
Andromeda's demeanor dropped slightly and she slid off her helmet and fixed her hair
Andromeda: He was a friend. He was...caring, he was funny, he went in on his own, he was reckless. Even while dying he cracked a joke. He knew how to bring a smile to everyone's face. Even when one wasn't on your face, he knew you were doing it on the inside. He was someome who every Hunter strives to be like.
Blake: What happened to him?
Andromeda: ....A mission to the Reef to help a friend of ours take care of a prison riot, he lost his Light and was then killed..with his own gun.
Catra: Oh my god...
Andromeda: Everyone. Friend and foe who learned of his death felt a piece of them die. It hurt others more than you think.
Ruby: But who would do something like that?
Andromeda: His name was Uldren Sov. Prince of the Awoken. The--blue people. Sorry.
She sat down on the rubble and wipes her eyes with her sleeve
Andromeda: I'm sorry... it's been years and it still hurts.
Marcy: Take your time.
Andromeda: Thanks.*sigh* I felt partial responsible. He saw so much potential in me and I wasn't there to help him, I wasn't there to protect him! Wren...Wren found him. He carried his body out of the prison. Even though he didn't really like Cayde I could tell he felt sorrow for not being there for him as well.
Her ghost hovered low and flashed a hologram of Cayde-6
Andromeda: Oh Cayde, could I use one of your jokes right about now.*sigh*
Blake: What happened after the prison?
Andromeda: There was a manhunt for Uldren and his Scorn Barron's.
Ruby: Scorn?
Andromeda: Fallen corrupted by the Darkness. They helped kill Cayde. We nearly tore open the Tangled Shore looking for him. One by one we hunted down and killed his Barron's until Uldren was the last target.*sigh* If only I had the courage to be there.
Catra: What? You mean you weren't there to help them? What were you doing that was so important that you couldn't avenge your friends death!
Blake: Catra!!
Catra: You can't be a coward after your friend was just killed!
Marcy: You can't just say that though!
Andromeda: Hey!
Blake: ....
Marcy: .....
Catra: .....
Andromeda: She's right to be mad at me for not being there. The truth is after Cayde died and I saw his body, I broke. After the Red War and seeing so many friends die...it was the final straw. I.. wasn't motivated to eat, sleep, hell I never even moved. For weeks I wallowed in squallow. And as I did, Wren and Dak went on a path of vengeance. After the final bullet was fired, Wren practically ran at light speed to tell me he had avenged Cayde. But I just didn't have the strength to get up.
Ruby: I'm so sorry that happened to you.
Andromeda looked at Ruby and smiled at her
Andromeda: It's okay kid. Wren spent the next few weeks honing his skills with Cayde's gun, Ace of Spades. He challenged every Hunter he came across to a duel. His ghost revived him so many times in a single day I think it broke a record. Week after week he trained. He used exotics to make his draw speed faster. And when he perfected using it with the exotic, he took it off and trained without a crutch. One day I..I don't even know why I got up that day but I did. I went to see a crucible match and there I saw him. A three on one. Wren versus three hunters. Everyone was whispering about the outcome. Saying how "he'd never outdraw three hunters". Shaxx counted down from three and once he hit one, bang!
The sound of Ace rung loud in her mind as she described the battle
Andromeda: The middle one was dead with a hole in his head. The other two leapt to the side as Wren ran to follow one of them. Bang! Bang! Bang! More shots rung out like fireworks. It was like a dance of death. Even though the odds were against him, Wren didn't flinch as the bullets whizz past him.
Andromeda continued to weave them the tale of Wren and his training into making Cayde's gun his own. How the endless nights he spent had paid off in him being so quick on the draw, Andromeda saw Cayde in Wren every time he drew the gun. Every shot fired reminded her of Cayde-6. At the climax of her story she told in a triumphant stupor of how Wren won the match and a smile grew on her face again.
Andromeda: When I saw him again he hugged me. It was warm...calm. He held out Ace to me, told me it was mine since I knew Cayde longer than him. But I knew Ace found it's owner. I told him to keep it and use it as he saw fit. I told him that Cayde would be proud at how much he worked his ass off to use the gun. I think he knew it and needed to hear it from me. Slowly but eventually, I was back in action. Andromeda. The Golden Gun Gal.
She spun her revolver and aimed it, making a gunshot sound with her mouth and holstering the weapon
Andromeda: Sorry I..went off there. I never really get to tell that story.
Blake: I think it should be a book. "The Ace and it's dealer."
Ruby: Rolls off the tongue and everyone would love it~
Andromeda:*giggle* One day one day. But today we train. This will be the day you've waited for. This will be the day we open up the door to you becoming legend. Are you ready?
The girls pulled out their guns and held them tightly in their hands. With a warm light in her chest ignited, Andromeda drew back on her bow and shot an arrow high into the air and watched it land on a small rock high up.
Andromeda: Your first test. Get the arrow. Oh and Catra, because of your little "outburst" no double jumping.
Blake: What!?
Ruby: Aww!!
Marcy: Thanks alot Cat!!
Catra: Oh shut up!!
Andromeda: You better get going. I here the Fallen are in this area~
Marcy: You'll watch over us...right?
Andromeda smirked at them before disappearing into a burst of black smoke
Marcy: She's just invisible. Right?
The sounds of Fallen ships flying overhead made the girls shoot up and runs towards the arrow, running over each other to get to their objective. Watching them from afar, Andromeda laughs to herself as her ghost floats beside her
Andromeda: I think this teaching job is gonna be alright. Right sixer?
She looks up at the stars and kicks up her feet on a burnt out television box before whistling a tune to herself
