II. TWO

I shot my eyes open when I realized I wasn't in the orphanage anymore. I quickly sat up as soon as I heard arguing and Anya's unbelievably loud cries. Pushing myself off the high bed and landed on the floor. My feet were protected from the cold floor with a onesie that matched Anyas but in the color green.

   The room looked.. sad.

It's not as cool as the other room in the newer house but...it's okay for now. Just like in the orphanage, there was only one bed in the middle of the room. Both the plushies were neatly tucked in. The carpet was a boring green color and there was a desk in the corner of the room and two tiny cabinets holding our clothes.

I quickly rushed to get changed and ran down the hallway to where both Loid and Anya were on the ground. In front of them, some books. My presents completely went unnoticed.

"I don't wanna!" Anya screamed at the top of her lungs, "I don't wanna study!"

"I need to know how smart you are for this exam." Loid tried to explain to the smaller girl. However, she was dead set on never picking up another pencil again.

"I don't need to study to do any tests! If I just read other people's...N/N!" Anya quickly abandoned the desk and ran up to me. She extended her arms to engulf me in a very uncomfortable hug.

"Oh, well good morning, Y/N. '' Loud flashed a smile towards me, I shot him a thumbs up before also kneeling in front of the small table. "Hold on, are you planning on cheating? Listen. If you don't get into this school..." he paused. He took a deep breath in before standing up. Giving me a soft head pat, he reached for his hat. "I'm heading out. I'll test your skills Y/N when I return--"

"Chichi!" Anya rushed to latch onto his leg. However, unlike yesterday he was quick to peel her off.

He looked at her with a stern glare. "You're not coming with me today! No matter what. You're staying home."

And he meant it. Anya would try about fifteen times to escape the room before Loid eventually boarded up the room. She came to me sulking, complaining that I should remove all the barriers that are on the other side of the room.

"That wouldn't work..." I reminded her, waving my fingers to lift a blanket and drape it over the two of us. "If I can see the object I can move it, it's easier to move something I've already touched--"

    "Break the door down!"

    "No! That's even worse!"

"Brothers, no fun." Anya slithered off the couch and quickly ran off to our room--or what I thought was our room.

    It was quiet... too quiet.

A few minutes later I heard a bunch of crashes and her voice running through the halls. 'No way...'

I jumped out of my seat and ran into Loids room, where Anya was quickly trying to pack up the mess she made. Pieces of wires and papers were being crushed and crumbled. I sighed and quickly helped her pack up his suitcase.

"What are you even doing here--"

    "--Secret messages!"

    "What does that even mean?"

"Secrets, secrets..." She started to shake my shoulders, "If he finds out I'm a telepath... we'll have to leave"

"We?" Why am I suddenly dragged into this?! I'm not even the main character...

Anya went on a long rambling about how we'll be sent back to the orphanage and have to live on the streets and whatnot. She started to panic and panic until we finally finished packing up. As soon as I closed the door we heard a knock on the door, her voice fell quiet before cheering up.

    "Papa!"

"Anya! Dont!" I couldn't stop her from jumping up from the couch, I held her arm. She looked at me confused, "It isn't Loid"

"Address him as Papa! This is Papa, don't be silly! It's Papa, Papa, Papa, our lovely Papa. It's Papa, our boring old pa...pa?" She opened the door to a strange man. As fast as I could, I scanned my pink eyes all over the room trying to find an escape. However, I couldn't think of one fast enough. I should've planned--I should have been paying attention... He threw in a smoke bomb and before I knew it, we were both out like a light.

It was cold, cold, and lonely. I couldn't feel my sister, shit I couldn't even feel my limbs. Did she leave me here? Did something happen to her? Did they separate us? Am I not worthy of being a mere side character in this wholesome anime?

A painful knot formed in my stomach.

I was left behind. I can't breathe. I'm hyperventilating. Is this what a panic attack is—

Suddenly, I felt the eyepatch being lifted off of me. Soft hands. Anya's hands...

With our arms bound to the front of us, she had taken the courage to go ahead and unblind me. I returned the favor and helped her see me. As soon as our pink eyes made contact, tears started to dwell in her eyes. She rushed into my arms and sobbed softly. Guards were surrounding us--but I don't dare plan an escape.

    Loid will come for us....eventually.

    Right?

In the anime, it felt like Loid dropped everything to come to save us, but here, it took hours. The sun was already setting when something eventually happened. In comes a guard, dragging Loid by his suit, my voice was caught in my throat. Anya peaked out and her eyes immediately dilated.

Before she could wail out, a smoke bomb was thrown down and we were picked up. Strong arms embraced us as they sped through the facility. I could hear Anyas yell, "Papa...Papa.... Bwaaaaaa!"

"Look, you're okay. I won't do anything" Loid, who I'm assuming was underneath the disguise, was fed up. He tried changing his voice but he should stick to costume changes. "Look, you're okay. I won't do anything. You don't have to be scared."

That didn't stop Anya from whaling about. All she could focus on was that her father was back to save her, I clung to his shoulder and rested my head. It was quiet other than for Anya's cries. It was such an awful thing to hear, it broke my heart to hear my sister from another mother cry. Loid must be in the same boat, of course. He feels bad for us because he once was us.

    "Bwaaaaaa!...papa.....papa aaaa!"

"Listen up, kids." Loid set the two of us down, he undid our restraints.

    "Anya!"

    "Listen up, Anya."

    "Y-Y/n!"

Loid was a little taken aback when I introduced myself, I don't even know why I did it anyways...my face flushed red as Loid snapped out of it. "...and Y/N. Listen up, I and my friends are pro tag players. Whenever we spot someone with potential, we immediately challenge them to a game.

"Oh." I could practically hear the classical, 'Papa is a liar.'

"Now, listen. If you go straight down this street and turn right, you'll find a police station. If you can get this to a police officer, you win the game. Got it?" He passed us both a small little paper and turned us around, facing the direction he wanted us to go.

Anya whipped her head around, "Pa—"

"--All right, go! Hurry!" He shouted. A little startled, we quickly rushed in that direction before stopping and turning around. We were down the street already and Loid was gone, Anya started whaling and immediately ran back.

Following behind the girl, we both decided it was best not to follow behind him. Instead, we opted to wait down the street. Anya was crouched down watching small Ants fall into the sewer system while I was sitting on the curb. Watching and counting how many cars ran past a red light--and almost me.

Anya scolded me a bit. I scooted a bit back and also watched the ants meet their untimely demise. We were startled as a voice boomed over us, "Y/N!?" Anya peeked out from the mailbox and he shouted even louder, "Anya!?"

"Papa! Papa!" She trampled me to get to Loid.

"What are you—I mean,  what are the two of you doing outside the house?" Loid asked and embraced the girl. He slowly dragged her over to me and I embraced him in a hug. "I, uh, just happened to come here to shop, but I guess they went out of business."

     'Papa is a huge liar.'

"Me and Y/n was playing tag with some old guys."

"Oh, I see. Did you have fun?"

    "It was a little scary."

"It's too scary..." I confessed, "I wanna go home."

"Our home. If you leave me behind, I'm going to cry." Anya told him seriously.

And with that, Loid lead us home. On the way home Anya told him all about the game we played and the difference types of castles she wanted to live in. She chatted on and on and on, never stopping. I could hear my sister ramble on for days if I could.
