Chapter 87

It's nearing eleven o'clock at night, and Dean went back to Bobby's hours ago for a surprise visit and a place to sleep, leaving the Novaks at their house without him. It might as well just be Castiel, Lucifer, Samandriel, and Claire; the other two haven't appeared in hours.

Castiel has yet to see Anna this visit, because she hasn't left her room yet. Typical teenager. Claire mentioned that she's talking to someone, but whether that's one of her girlfriends from school or Cain, they don't know for sure.

Michael hasn't rejoined them either, but that makes more sense. No one was able to explain just what he's doing, but from what Castiel gathered, it's something about either working or volunteering at the hospital for college.

Lucifer sends Claire off to bed finally, which she's obviously opposed to, and likely would have ignored the order if Lucifer hadn't gotten mad and yelled it at her. She reluctantly goes to bed eventually, and Castiel can already tell she'll be really tired for school tomorrow.

Samandriel had gone to bed about an hour earlier, leaving just Lucifer and Castiel in the living room. Castiel decides bed would probably be a good idea so he can attempt to adjust to the new time zone, but Lucifer stops him.

"Can I ask a favor?"

Castiel shrugs. "Sure. Name it."

"Can we make another video together?"

Castiel raises an eyebrow. "Interesting idea of favor. I don't see why not, though. What type of video? Another skit?"

"Q and A?" Lucifer suggests. "We can get questions from Twitter and make our own hashtag and maybe it'll start trending!"

Castiel chuckles softly at that. There's the typical Lucifer enthusiasm that seemed to have disappeared the moment they stepped into the house.

"I'm up for that," he agrees. "We could tweet it out tonight and do it either tomorrow afternoon or the day after."

"Probably day after so everyone gets to tweet us," Lucifer replies.

"Makes sense," Castiel agrees. "Can I ask why this is a favor instead of just me chilling with my big bro?"

"Because no one bugs me when I'm doing things for my channel, but I'm running out of ideas, so I'm using you to shut everyone else up."

Castiel raises an eyebrow. Well, at least he's honest about it. Castiel can't really blame him for wanting to get away from everyone else. It seems the most bearable person here is Anna, the only person he doesn't see very much because she's always in her room or out with friends.

"Well, anyways, I'm up for a Q and A. Tweet it and I'll retweet it, how 'bout that?"

Lucifer agrees, pulling his phone out and tweeting something out briefly before giving Castiel the all clear to retweet. He opens Twitter, finding that tweet at the top of his feed so he doesn't have to search for his brother's account manually.

"Its international 'Ask the Angels Anything' day! Ask Castiel & me stuff with the hashtag #ATAA and we'll answer in a new video Thursday!"

Castiel quotes the tweet, saying, "Go for it, guys! #ATAA."

"And now," Lucifer says, sliding his phone into his pocket, "we wait."

Castiel practically forces Lucifer to sleep in the next morning and let him ensure that the girls get off to school okay. Claire leaves her bedroom first, giving Castiel a brief "hello" before continuing to get ready, starting by making lunch. Castiel glances up from his phone a few times, but for the most part, he's texting Dean.

"Claire!" Anna calls from her bedroom. "I can't find my mascara! Can I borrow yours?"

"Check my bureau!" Claire calls back.

Castiel raises an eyebrow. The girls he saw last time he was here hated each other with a burning passion. They could barely share a civilized "hello," never mind makeup. Obviously he's missed something big while he was away; relationships are forming and breaking at the drop of a hat.

Anna finally leaves her bedroom a few minutes later, her messenger bag slung carelessly over her shoulder. Her makeup is flawless, and her hair is up in a neat French twist. She gently puts her bag on the table, and Claire hands her an apple instantly.

Seeing her hesitate, Claire adds, "A few calories won't kill you. C'mon, eat up. Or I'll follow you all day at school and Cain won't want to talk to you."

Anna rolls her eyes and takes a bite out of her apple, chewing it with exaggeratedly large movements to show Claire that she is, in fact, eating it.

Castiel feels a pang of guilt when Claire says that. He had completely forgotten that he was supposed to be concerned about Anna's eating habits. He had promised Michael he would try to help her, but then he just... didn't. What makes it worse is that he knew something was wrong, and he basically just ignored it. If that isn't the sign of a horrible brother, he doesn't know what is.

"A'ight, let's go," Claire says when Anna finishes her apple. "See ya, Castiel."

The two girls leave the house, but Claire runs back in after about twenty seconds, grabs a small container of cut up strawberries from the fridge, and, as she leaves the house, calls over her shoulder for Castiel's sake, "Anna forgot her strawberries. Bye again!"

Castiel watches her leave again, not quite sure what to do. That was surprisingly easy on his part. Last time he tried to watch them get ready for school, they just wanted to fight the whole morning. He'd take this over World War III any day.

After all that commotion, Misha finally decides to get out of his bed. He walks into the kitchen, his claws clinking against the floor. He patters over to the front door, and, after inspecting it briefly, decides there's nothing of interest and joins Castiel at the kitchen table. He lies down next to his owner's chair and closes his eyes. Castiel can't blame him. He wouldn't mind going back to sleep right now either.
