Chapter 8

"Who's that?" Dean asks, unable to read the contact name from where he is.

"Lucifer," Castiel replies.

"I should have known," Dean says with a laugh. "Anything important?"

Castiel shakes his head. "No, just a spam. You know. Rants, Bee Movie. That stuff."

Dean chuckles. "He's still into The Bee Movie?"

"Big time," Castiel replies. "He gave up on typing it out, but when I went up for Christmas..."

"Some people never change, huh?" Dean observes with an amused smile.

"Nope," Castiel agrees. "He figured out it was you in the live stream. Well, he guessed, but he's pretty sure. He wants me to call him. You wanna join?"

Dean grins. "Damn straight I do."

Castiel calls his brother up on speaker. Lucifer answers immediately.

"Seriously, Cas? It's, like, nine o'clock. I texted you at ten this morning."

"Nine?" Castiel glances at the clock. "Oh, right. Time zones. But I was busy."

"Is that what you posted on Twitter? Cuz I was about to check it out."

"Yeah, but don't show Dad," Castiel advises him. "He might actually kill me."

"I don't think Dad can hear anything going on here," Samandriel tells him.

"Oh, am I on speaker?" Castiel asks. "Hi, everyone there!"

"Hi!" Michael, Lucifer, Samandriel, and Anna all reply at once. It takes Castiel a moment to remember that Gabriel isn't there because he's at college with Sam.

"Guess what? You're all on speaker, too," Castiel tells them, then looks to Dean to say something.

"Hey, guys."

If Michael, Samandriel, or Anna say something, Castiel doesn't know, because as soon as Dean speaks, Lucifer yells, "MY SHIP IS STILL SAILING!"

Castiel and Dean laugh at his enthusiasm.

"You sound devastated," Dean jokes.

"This is the best day of my life!" Lucifer laughs. "Destiel is back! It's a miracle! Did you ever actually break up? Or did you just lie to me so I couldn't rant about how freaking perfect you are?"

Dean and Castiel share a look, unsure how to respond. It's Castiel that does, after a pause.

"We sorta drifted apart, but then Dean found me a couple days ago and we've been hanging out a lot since then."

"Yassssss!" Lucifer yells.

"Calm yourself," Samandriel advises with a laugh. "You're going to scare your ship away."

"My ship would never leave me," Lucifer says, which sounds sort of like a threat.

"I'm scared," Castiel whispers jokingly.

"Me too," Dean agrees just as quietly. "Run away while you still can!"

"I don't think Lucifer's OTPs can ever escape him," Samandriel says.

"Sabriel did," Dean reminds him.

"No, Sabriel just got farther away," Lucifer replies. "But they'll never escape," he adds evilly.

"Freaky," Samandriel says with a laugh.

"Seriously, Castiel?" Michael's faint voice is full of exasperation.

"What?" Castiel asks.

"You're an idiot," Anna tells him.

"I second that," Samandriel adds.

"Awesome!" Lucifer says with a laugh.

"What awesome thing am I an idiot for?" Castiel asks.

"I looked at your video on Twitter," Michael tells him.

"See, I'm not the only one that thought it was stupid," Dean says proudly.

"Shut up," Castiel says, rolling his eyes.

"I think it's cool!" Lucifer adds.

"See? I'm not the only one that thought it was cool," Castiel says defensively.

"I think Lucifer thinking it's cool proves my point," Dean replies.

"What that supposed to mean?" Lucifer asks.

"I just don't trust your judgement at all," Dean replies with a shrug that Lucifer can't see.

"Hey! I got you and Castiel together, didn't I?"

"No, I got me and Cas together, not you."

"Okay, but I shipped it first. You trust that judgement, right?"

"Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then."

"Then I must have a killer sense of smell, because I got quite a few nuts in the time you lived here."

"Like what?" Dean challenges.

"Destiel and Sabriel."

Dean rolls his eyes. "That's two nuts. And what about Adamandriel? That one didn't work out too well, huh?"

"Like what?" Samandriel asks suspiciously.

"Nothing, nothing," Lucifer replies dismissively. "But it's not my fault Adam left for college and he stayed here!"

"You had four and a half years to get them together," Dean reminds him.

"Well, not everyone likes to cooperate like you did," Lucifer says defensively.

"Are you seriously going to argue about Adamandriel?" Anna asks. "Because I think there are more important matters at hand. Like how fucking stupid Castiel is."

Dean looks at Castiel and mouths, "She swears now?" Castiel just nods. She's in high school; everyone swears there. Even perfect Anna couldn't get away from it. Although, Samandriel got through high school without saying a single swear that Castiel knows of.

"Hate it all you want, but it was really fun," Castiel tells her.

"Seriously, how is that fun?" Samandriel asks. "What if you fell?"

"But I didn't."

"Yeah, you did," Dean reminds him.

"Shut up," Castiel hushes him.

"You fell?" Michael repeats. "Seriously, Castiel, what the hell? Why did you —"

"I've got to go, bye," Castiel interrupts quickly, hanging up. He sighs and falls onto one of the beds, bouncing slightly.

"What was that for?" Dean asks.

"What?"

"You just hung up on your brothers and sister for literally no reason," Dean reminds him.

"They were just gonna lecture me about how stupid I was to do the ropes course without a harness."

"And you deserve it," Dean adds. "I mean, seriously, Cas, what if you didn't catch yourself? What if you really fell and —"

"If you're just going to lecture me about my choices, then please go," Castiel interrupts.

"What?" Dean's voice is full of surprise and hurt.

"I'm sick of people telling me how bad all my life choices are. Either shut up or get out."

Dean doesn't say anything for a moment, clearly unsure how to respond to that. Finally, he asks, "Do you want me to leave? Because if you don't want to hang out, I can go."

"As long as you don't tell me how stupid you think I am, I'd love for you to stay," Castiel replies. "I mean, tomorrow's our last day together, right? Might as well make the most of it."
