Chapter 197

A/N I can't wait to finish chapter 200 to start another book because scrolling through the first 196 chapters to get to this one is a pain in the ass(butt)

"Maybe tomorrow, the good lord will take me away!" Dean sings, loudly and off key, as soon as they leave the building. Castiel laughs, not bothered by all the weird looks people are giving them. If they don't know the Aerosmith classics, it's their own fault.

"You're really gonna do that here?" Castiel asks with an amused smile.

"Hell yes I am," Dean replies with a grin. "This is my song, man. I gotta sing along."

"That's an interesting take on singing," Castiel says teasingly.

"C'mon, you know you love it." Dean takes his hand and starts to pick up where the song is now, but he pauses, looking down at his boyfriend's hand. "You're still shaking?"

Castiel pulls his hand away. "I'm fine."

"But —"

"I'm fine," Castiel repeats, more forcefully this time.

"Okay, okay." Dean puts his hands up in a surrender. "But if you're not, you should tell me, okay?"

Castiel just nods. He doesn't really mean it, of course. He doesn't want or need a therapist of any sort, but Dean doesn't have to know that. He's an independent angel who don't need to man.

"We're heading to Toy Story Mania," Gabriel tells the two of them, gesturing to his boyfriend. "You guys coming, or are you going to stay here and make a fool out of yourselves listening to Aerosmith?"

"What, we can't do both?" Dean jokes. "Nah, kidding. I've heard Toy Story Mania is awesome."

"Didn't you say the same thing about the Rockin' Rollercoaster?" Castiel reminds him, a bit reluctant to trust him on this. It seems like all Dean's favorite rides are the ones Castiel hates.

"No, this is one you'll love," Dean assures him. "It's completely harmless. Someone — Adam and Samandriel? — are on it with Alex right now, and if they can take a literal baby on this ride, you can ride it, too."

Castiel hesitates, then asks, "What type of ride is it?"

"I think you shoot some stuff and try to get a better score than whoever you're playing against," he says vaguely. "I don't really know. It's not a rollercoaster or a thriller type thing, though. It's gonna be fun for both of us. I promise."

Castiel reluctantly agrees. "But if it's not, I'm never trusting you again."

"But if you don't trust me, how will you know what to ride?" Dean counters.

"I just won't ride anything," Castiel replies without a moment's hesitation. "My tour has me completely wiped out. I could take the next week to just relax. Hell, I could just go home for a week."

"What? No!" Dean says immediately. "You can't just go home!"

"Then this ride better be as good as you say it is," Castiel replies with a smug smirk.

Dean frowns. "Well, shit."

~~

Fortunately, Castiel decides that everything about the ride is going to be awesome even before the ride actually starts. The queue is adorable. It's as if they shrunk down to the size of the characters, and they're frolicking through Andy's room like new toys.

They sit down in their cart, with Castiel and Dean on one side and Sam and Gabriel on the other, so they can see each other, but not the happy couple. Castiel can't help but laugh every time he sees his boyfriend in the ridiculous 3D glasses they were given. He should probably keep his eyes off of him once the ride begins if he wants to have any hope of winning the game.

Castiel puts a hand on the string on the fake gun, preparing himself for this. "You're going down, Dean."

Dean scoffs. "Pfft, you wish."

The ride starts, and they enter a practice round, which doesn't get them any points. Soon, the real part of the ride begins, and they both begin to shoot all the targets on the screen. Castiel feels like he's doing really good until the first round is over, and he looks down to see that Dean has twice as many points.

"How the hell did you do that?" Castiel asks, gaping at him.

Dean chuckles. "I've fired a lot of guns in my time. Trust me, this is nothing new."

Castiel pouts. "Cheater."

"Not a cheater," Dean corrects him. "Experienced. I'm just experienced."

"How does a little toy cannon compare to a real gun at all?" Castiel asks skeptically.

"It's a bit different, but same general principle." Dean shrugs. "You just gotta adapt — and then ya gotta win."

And, sure enough, he does win — not just better than Castiel or better than their cart, but he has the highest score of the week. Castiel can't help but gape at him. How the hell did he do that?

As they climb out of the cart, Dean starts gloating, just as Castiel knew he would.

"Take that, suckers!" he says with a laugh. "You wish you were this cool. I am the best of the best. I think I deserve some ice cream for this."

"You know what? I agree," Castiel says. "Let's go get ice cream to shut you up."

"Fuck yeah!" Dean says excitedly. "Let's go fund us some ice cream."

~~

Sam and Gabriel left to check out the new Star Wars land that isn't open yet irl but will be soonish, so Dean and Castiel sit down on the ground outside the Indian Jones-themed ice cream shop alone. Castiel eats his ice cream in silence, but occasionally, Dean will say something, trying to start a conversation.

"Hey, have you ever seen Sherlock?" Dean asks.

Castiel just shakes his head. He's caught bits and pieces of it back when Lucifer was obsessed with the show, but he's never seen a full episode. It just sounds stupid to him.

"What?" Dean gapes at him, as if Castiel had just said something insulting. "Dude, you're missing out. You and I are going to have a Sherlock marathon."

Castiel raises an eyebrow. When does he even have time for a Sherlock marathon? As soon as vacation is over, he's back on tour. Hell, he probably won't see Dean for months after the show by his boyfriend's house, right when their vacation ends. There's no way they'll be able to work a Sherlock marathon in for months.

"Benedict Cumberbatch is the best," Dean continues. "He was the main dude in Doctor Strange, too. I should make you watch that, too. I feel like you'd like that. We can watch Sherlock and Doctor Strange, and then we can watch Thor because Thor is the best, and we can watch Doctor Who because I know you haven't seen that, and I will educate you on good stuff."

Castiel sighs. "Maybe later."

Dean cocks his head in confusion. "What's up with you?"

Castiel just shrugs.

"Hey, smile!" Dean gestures around. "We're at Disney, for god's sake!"

"I know." Castiel offers him a small smile, but Dean doesn't buy it.

"C'mon, what's wrong?" he asks again. "Still upset that I won?"

Castiel shakes his head. "No, I just... No."

"No, seriously, Cas. What's wrong?" Dean asks. "Tell me, or I'll boop your nose with my ice cream, and then your nose is gonna freeze and fall off."

Castiel can't help but laugh at that. "I just... As grateful as I am for this vacation, it just reminds me of how much I don't want to go back on tour when it's over."

"Why not?"

"It's boring and lonely and I don't like it." He's not sure he's ever said that to anyone, but he's definitely implied that he doesn't like performing when he's talking to people he knows won't judge him for it. He wouldn't tell a fan that, but his friends are a different story.

"Would it be any better if you had company?" Dean asks.

Castiel scoffs. "You'd get through two, three shows tops, get bored, and go home."

"I doubt that," Dean says. "I've heard that your show is legendary this year. I would love to come along the whole time."

Castiel raises an eyebrow skeptically.

"No, seriously," Dean says. "I'd even just chill backstage if you want, so I can see you after. Your fans still get their show, but you don't have to be bored as lonely when you're not performing. How does that sound?"

Castiel sighs. "I don't want to bore you just because I don't want to be bored alone."

"My other option is sitting at home all day and being bored anyway," Dean reminds him. "I might as well go with the option that leaves the lest amount of room for boredom."

Castiel hesitates. Does he really want to drag Dean along for the next few months? He'd undoubtedly get bored, even if he's convinced he won't. He'd have a whole lot more fun back home. But how does Castiel convince him of that?

"You know," Castiel says, "if you came along, you'd be on a plane basically every other day."

Dean pauses at that, and Castiel can clearly see that this is the best response he could have come up with to counter it. After a few seconds, though, he says, "I think that would be worth it."

Castiel scoffs. "You hate flying."

"You're correct," Dean replies. "Which means I really want to come with you."

Castiel hesitates, then sighs. "Fine, you're welcome to join me, but you're also 100 percent allowed to opt out at any time."

Dean cocks his head in confusion. "Why are you so against me coming along? You were literally just saying you were bored when you're doing it alone."

Castiel doesn't answer, because he's not quite sure how to. Tours just get really stressful, especially just before the show starts. He doesn't want anyone seeing the behind-the-scenes if they don't have to. There's a reason he always kicks his friends and family out a few minutes before the doors open to let everyone in the stadium, and it's not because he's concerned that they won't get to a good spot if they don't.

"Are you finished with your ice cream?" Castiel asks, changing the subject. "I want to ride the Star Wars thing."

Dean rolls his eyes. "Alright, let's go."
