Chapter 178

A/N Idek what the song names are in the book anymore agh help I suck at titles

Castiel wakes up a week or so later to find a text from Dean. It was from 7:00, and it's just past noon now, so he's pretty late responding, but he does anyway.

Dean: Congrats on all the Grammy nominations! I bet you'll win them all.

Castiel: Thanks! And sorry for ignoring you. I just woke up.

Castiel: Wait that was today?

Castiel immediately opens Twitter and searches his name, knowing he'll find a list of his nominations. It's not surprising that that's the first tweet that shows up, this one from a popular fan account, but he'd definitely surprised by how many nominations he has.

"Grammy nominations for Castiel Novak:
Artist of the year
Album of the year (Playing the Part)
Song of the year (Who I Am)
Best pop solo performance (Who I Am)
Best pop group performance (I Lost Him with @TaylorSwift13)
Best music video (Yasss)."

That's six nominations. He just released his album a week ago, and not only did he sell almost one million copies on the first day — the most in music history — and over two million copies over the first week; he also managed to snag six Grammy nominations. He's never had such a good week in his life. After all the drama this year, he thought he'd lose fans, but it seems he's getting more popular by the day. It's honestly such a big confidence booster.

He flips around on his bed and takes a selfie, looking way too surprised, strategically moving the camera to capture both his face and sleeping Misha by his bed, and posts it on his fan Instagram account with the caption, "SIX GRAMMY NOMINATIONS WHAT HOW WHO INFILTRATED THE RECORDING ACADEMY FOR ME AND WHY?"

He's sure his fans will get a good laugh out of that, because they always find it funny when he doesn't expect to be nominated for or to win awards, which is all the time.

He glances at his conversation with Dean, but he doesn't seem to be near his phone. He's probably at practice. Or is it game day? He doesn't keep track of the day of the week. Every day is the same for him, holed up alone in his house like a hermit. At least he has his dog.

Castiel decides to check out the other nominations. He's up against Ed Sheeran for best artist, song, and pop solo performance, and he already knows Ed Sheeran is going to win purely because he's Ed Sheeran. Camilla Cabello is up for album of the year, and she'll probably win that one. He doesn't know any of the group performances, but they sound vaguely familiar, so he's sure they're decent. The music video nominees are the typical pop queens and kings — Lorde, Kendrick Lamar, ZAYN, Katy Perry; the cliche ones. He does love how Lucifer put the "Yasss" video together, but it's not easy to beat the popular ones, so he doesn't have faith in that, either. He wouldn't be surprised if he leaves empty handed, but at least he was nominated.

He always likes to check out the nominees for Best New Artist. The only person he skips is Bela Talbot, because she may be nominated, but she's not the best in anything. He likes all the other nominees' songs as much as he likes any pop song — they're decent for the genre, but pop is becoming even more of a trashy genre just in general.

The only nominee he really likes is the youngest one, a boy named Jack Kline. He doesn't have the typical techno-pop that Castiel tries to avoid. His music is full of genuine, heartfelt lyrics, with a sweet melody, and Castiel feels compelled to buy all his singles on iTunes. Unfortunately, he doesn't have an album out, and a quick google search reveals that he hasn't even announced it yet, so he has no idea how long it will take for it to come out.

Castiel sighs. Well, looks like he'll have to listen to the same two songs in repeat for the next three months.
