Chapter 135
Various people show up over the next few minutes. Apparently, Claire has befriended Ash and Eileen since Castiel's encounters with them, so they're here, as are a few of Anna's friends come, too — but no Ruby, so that feud still stands.
Castiel and Dean spend their time on their phones — or, more accurately, on Castiel's phone, with Dean's neglected in his lap. Dean seems to enjoy scrolling through Instagram almost as much as Castiel does, but it might just be his boredom at play.
"My English teacher was talking about good writing and showing not telling and all that and she mentioned songwriters like Castiel and Taylor and I just..."
Castiel chuckles at that. He never thought he was the educational type — or at least not in this line of work — but apparently, he was wrong.
"I can't believe Castiel still hasn't mentioned anything about his next album."
Castiel comments on that one, "I bet he'll say something about it by the end of the week. Maybe it'll even be tonight."
"Very subtle," Dean says sarcastically.
"If I'm subtle, they'll never figure it out," Castiel replies.
"Do you want them to figure it out?"
He nods. "Yeah, eventually." And once his account grows, there will be more people to notice all the impossibilities in it that prove it's actually Castiel's account.
"Alrighty then, carry on," Dean replies, clearly giving up understanding this.
"My wayward son," Castiel finishes absentmindedly as he scrolls through the next few posts, whose captions are mostly just gibberish, generic complements, or song lyrics. He does find some with actual interesting things to say occasionally, though.
"I never thought I'd find a cuter ship than Harriel but Destiel takes the cake. Can we get Haylor and Destiel and just leave it at that?" This post comes with an array of pictures of the happy couple, making both boys smile.
The next one has a much different tone.
"HELL NAW THIS BITCH STILL WANTS TO FIGHT, DOES SHE?"
This caption is about another tweet obviously subtweeting Castiel, once again from Bela Talbot, that reads, "Ridiculous how u can drop off the map & ppl will still come running back to u when u obviously don't care."
"Who's that bitch?" Dean asks.
Castiel just shakes his head. "Don't even ask."
"Well, now I gotta go look her up," Dean tells him, pulling up Twitter on his phone and muttering the letters of her name under his breath as he searches it. Castiel looks over at his boyfriend's phone as he scrolls through her tweets, finding a shocking number of them are almost undeniably directed towards him.
Castiel scoffs. "Well, gee, Bela. Tell us how you really feel." He rolls his eyes. This is ridiculous. Can this qualify as harassment? He could probably report them and get them deleted if he wanted to play that game.
"I'm gonna go through and correct her on every single one of these," Dean announces.
"Don't," Castiel says quickly, then adds, "It's not worth it. I've seen worse."
"Not from someone people care about," Dean protests. "This is different than some no name."
"She is a no name," Castiel replies. "Trust me, she's not worth it."
"M'kay, if you say so," Dean replies, exiting Twitter. "You're the celebrity around here."
"You're a celebrity, too," Castiel reminds him.
"More people know me through you than know me for football," Dean says. "I think you count as the real celebrity."
"Well, okay, maybe," Castiel allows.
"Heya, Destiel, what're you guys looking at?" Lucifer asks before they can turn their attention back to Castiel's fan Instagram.
Without looking up, Castiel replies, "Social media," knowing he'll assume it's Twitter.
"Ooh, fun fun," Lucifer replies. "Not very party-like, but fun."
"It's either that or munch on Doritos all day and there wouldn't be any left for the rest of you if I did that," Castiel replies.
Lucifer chuckles. "That's the party spirit. Except it's not."
Castiel smiles to himself and finally looks up at him to see Lucifer's camera trained on him. He had nearly forgotten Lucifer started vlogging, and he's sure he'll make it in there, whether it's from this clip or another from today.
His phone dings, and Castiel glances at the screen to see a text from Charlie, which he doesn't hesitate to open.
Charlie: Heyo!
Castiel: Heyo to you too?
Charlie: Are you back in Sioux Falls? Cuz that's what people are saying but it's just rumors atm.
Castiel: Oui.
Charlie: Um?
Castiel: Oui, j'ai in Sioux Falls.
Charlie: ?
Charlie: OHHHH THAT'S FRENCH ISN'T IT?
Castiel: Probably not but it's my impression of French from that French one class I had to take in eighth grade.
Charlie: You actually remember stuff you learned in school?!
Castiel: Not much but occasionally. Those straight A's weren't for nothing.
Charlie: Show off.
Castiel: That I am.
Castiel: So, what's up?
Charlie: I feel like I haven't seen you in forever, so since you're here, I was thinking we might as well hang out.
Castiel: I'm at Claire, Anna, and Michael's collective graduation party at my house rn.
Charlie: So later?
Castiel: No, like, stat because this is boring af.
Charlie: Awesome. See ya in a few.
Castiel: Bye!
Charlie: Baiiii!
And now, they wait.
