[ 1 MONTH LATER ]

It's been hours since Chad and Peyton got home from another doctor's appointment. According to the doctor, it's only getting worse but that isn't stopping Chad. He's still in denial. He still doesn't want to face the truth and that is Peyton could die.

Lately Chad has been helping Alex with her singing and today was another day of that. So once they walked through the door, he kissed her on her head then made his way to their bedroom. Peyton decided to grab a video camera and go to the baby's room. She set the camera up to face her before sitting in the rocking chair. She knew her end was coming but she didn't want to leave without giving the baby a little something.

"Hello. baby. By the time you're watching this and understanding, you most likely are ten by now." Peyton began . . "Sorry I couldn't be there. But I wish I was there. You're growing up so fast and I love you so much. Anyway—"

Chad snatched the video camera off the stool, "What the hell are you doing?"

"Making a tape, I want them to know me." Peyton was a bit sad that he did that.

"If you want to keep the baby, fine. But you're not making a tape." Chad left the room with the video camera in hand, then leaving out. He was going to hide it in his car.

Peyton felt alone in all of this. She knew Chad didn't want to accept it which she understood but she still needs him. After she let out a sigh of frustration, there was a knock at the door. She thought it was odd because Chad has a key and didn't remember anyone who was suppose to be coming over.

She soon made her way to the door and opened it. Brooke stood there with a light smile. Peyton happily let her in and closed the door behind her.

"So . . how you been?" Brooke began as she walked around the living room.

Peyton made her way to the couch to have a sit. Moving around a lot gets her nauseous sometimes. "I've been ok. How have yo—" Peyton's eyes were staring at Brooke's ring finger, "Is that an engagement ring?!"

"Yes." Brooke went and sat next to Peyton, "I wasn't sure to say anything because of everything you're going through. I didn't want to seem insensitive."

"Brooke . . !" Peyton exclaimed, "This is huge. I'm really happy for you." Her tone quieted down a bit towards the end.

Brooke went in for a hug, "Thank you but how are you? Really."

The two pulled away and sat back against the couch, "I honestly don't know. Chad's been an asshole lately but I get it." Peyton began, "I just need him to accept that it's happening, I probably will die."

Brooke bit the inside of her cheek, she hated the thought of her best friend dying. She didn't say anything, she just kept staring at Peyton.

"It's scary, I know but I accepted it. I just need him to and I need him here with me. . . You get that, right?" Peyton spoke softly.

"Yeah, no, I get it." Brooke nodded along listening. She understood but just hated it.

"That was great, Alex! So great." Chad gave her a thumbs up behind the glass as she stood with headphones on in the studio. Mia just had her arms crossed over her chest, dreading every moment of it.

Alex continued to sing as Chad removed his finger off the green button.

Chad looked over to mia, "So, what do you think?"

"Other than her being annoying, she's pretty good." Mia compliment her which Chad was surprised by. He thought she was going to make some snarky comment or something, but to his surprise he was wrong.

As they continued to watch Alex through the glass, Mia continued conversation. "How's Peyton?"

"She's ok, I guess." He spoke softly. It was a sore subject, he didn't really know how to talk about it.

"How are you doing?" Mia turned to him.

"I-I don't know. She wants to keep the baby." He shook his head, "What am I suppose to do? I'm gonna be alone and I don't want to hate my child for killing their mother." He finally connected eyes with Mia.

"She could live you know." The singer told him as she glanced back at Alex.

"She could." His eyes soon diverted back to Alex as well, "But she won't. It's obvious."

The conversation soon fell silent and Alex walked out the studio. She was smiling from ear to ear. Chad felt slightly uneasy after his conversation with Mia but still showed happiness toward Alex even though he felt the exact opposite.

After a couple of hours Chad finally walked through the door. He saw Peyton sitting on the couch, reading. She looked up for a second then back down at her book. No one said a word. It was like they were both pissed at each other. Peyton hated the silence, she didn't know why he wasn't talking to her.

He had walked back to the room then back to the living area but in the kitchen. Still silent until Peyton was compelled to break it.

"I was thinking maybe we should have the wedding early." She announced from the couch.

Chad had just opened the fridge looking for a snack, "And why would we do that?"

"The baby is coming soon and that means I probably won't—" She began to give her reasoning but was immediately shot down.

"No." Chad said firmly, cutting her off.

"Can you please stop doing that?" Peyton was growing a tad annoyed. Chad turned to look at her like he didn't know what she meant, "Can you stop shooting my ideas down before you even hear them? Lately you've been an asshole and im tired of it."

Chad knew he was being rude to her but that was because if he faced the truth, it would become real and he still wasn't ready for that. He just looked at her. He felt sorry but he just didn't know what to say.

"Wrong choice of words..." Peyton continued, "Why have you been so closed off?"

"You already know I'm scared." Chad spoke softly, "And just accepting all this is like putting it into existence. I'm just not ready for any of this— to be a father and doing it by myself. I'm not ready to lose you. I just got you back and now you're going away again . . this time forever."

Peyton stayed seated on the couch. She let every word sink in. She heard him, she understood. Now they were finally moving along and actually talking instead of him just giving two letter words then leaving the room.

"I know. You won't be alone, you have Brooke, Haley and Nathan. You'll be an amazing father. Besides, it's not like our kid won't know me. You'll tell them about me. I'm sure you have some pretty great stories." Peyton got up and made her way over to him, "But I've been thinking . . . "

"What?" Chad met Peyton halfway and wrapped his arms around her, embracing her in a hug.

She rested her head on his shoulder, "What if we got married now? I don't want to wait any longer. I just want to call you my husband already."

"I don't know, Peyton." He pulled away, "That's like saying you're going to die before the wedding. The wedding is the only thing that's giving me hope right now . . . i just don't know."

"Yeah, no, I get it...." She trailed off while heading back to the couch.

Chad let out a sigh before departing to the bedroom to leave Peyton to her thoughts and so he could think of everything that's been happening.
