His sneakers rocked on the pavement, and he leaned against the railing outside of New York Public School. Blue headphones were plugged in his ear as Green Day played on his iPhone while Percy waited for Annabeth.
Annabeth usually arrived late to school as her bus took the longest to arrived, but Percy didn't mind. Though he preferred the warmth over the cold-it was a custom for them to enter the school building together. Not to mention, he liked holding Annabeth's cold hands when they entered the school.
Percy's sea-green eyes gazed over his surroundings, and he watched as Manhattan came alive with every second. He glanced away from the streets to the sidewalks, where buses pulled up with kids who didn't sleep last night.
His fingers softly drummed on the railing while examining his classmates. Several girls looked over to him and flashed a bright, flirtatious smile at him, seeing how Annabeth wasn't there with him. Percy looked away and pretended to be interested in something else.
Though he didn't know what exactly people saw within him that made them fall head over heels with him-he knew that his classmates were so keen on getting him. Annabeth laughed when he told her this. Percy blushed, remembering her words—'Everyone wants a Percy.'
"You alright?" asked a familiar bright red-head girl, walking toward him. "You seemed flustered by something."
Percy watched as Elle stood next to him, leaning against the railing. Her dyed red hair fell down her shoulders, and she crossed her arms. Elle's brown eyes shimmered at him, and she cocked an eyebrow.
They had fallen into a routine, where Elle would hang out with him as he waited for Annabeth, and when Annabeth arrived-Elle would leave.
"Eh," shrugged Percy, taking his headphones out. "It's nothing."
Elle snorted before looking around at their classmates. Percy could hear her sighed as people's eyes darted to them. He bit his lips, seeing them mutter to each other. Elle turned around to face him, and he raised an eyebrow at her.
"Anyways, how are you?" Asked Elle, smiling at him. "How's Miss. Estelle?"
Percy laughed and answered, "I'm doing good and Estelle's doing amazing! How's Irene?"
"Irene is doing good," Said Elle, then smirked after Percy nodded, "And I'm doing very good, Percy, thank you for asking."
Percy sheepishly chuckled, "Sorry, Elle, but you knew that I was going to ask you that afterwards."
"Yeah," Elle blushed and laughed. "Did you finish the science homework that Mr. Blofis assigned us?"
"Yes," Nodded Percy, rolling on his sneakers.
"Let me guess, Annabeth helped you with it?" Laughed Elle. "You would be totally screwed without her."
"Haha, I know," Percy sheepishly laughed.
Elle flashed him a soft smile, and Percy shot her one in return. They silently watched as everyone passed by them, and Elle tapped her fingers along her thigh while Percy gazed at the streets.
"Hey, I'm so sorry but Helen-" Said Annabeth before pausing. "Oh, hi, Elle."
Percy's head perked up at Annabeth's voice, and he could hear Elle getting up. He looked over to Elle, who quickly said goodbye to Percy and left.
Annabeth furrowed her eyes then shrugged. She looked back to Percy with a sheepish expression.
"Anyways, um, yeah-sorry," Blushed Annabeth at Percy, walking over to him. "I accidentally missed the bus and Helen was having this whole rant about how no one in the house appreciated her in the car."
"Oh, it's fine," Chuckled Percy, getting off the railing. "Shall we head in?"
"Of course," Said Annabeth, then laughed, "We wouldn't want to be late, would we?"
Percy shook her head and wrapped an arm around Annabeth's waist, tugging her closer to him. Annabeth softly smiled at him, but her grey eyes flickered. He could sense that she wanted to ask him about something, yet she didn't.
The school hours quickly passed by, and Percy was walking Annabeth to her art class. Even though his study hall period was in the opposite hall of Mrs. Iris's classroom-Percy always drop Annabeth off at her classes with a kiss.
"Seaweed Brain, you know that you don't have to walk me to my class," Laughed Annabeth as Percy pulled away. "Right?"
"I know," Blushed Percy, sheepishly looking away. "But I feel like I have to because I'm so used to it."
A soft smile appeared on her face, and she nodded. Annabeth said goodbye to him, and Percy watched as she walked in. He smiled at several of his friends in the class before making his way back to his study hall. The bell had rung, and Percy quickly slipped into his study hall. He walked to the front of the class and waited to sign himself out. He ran a hand through his black hair and messed it further, sighing.
A brown-haired girl stood before him and stepped back, bumping into him. Alyssa's eyes widened, and she quickly apologized. Percy shook his head and flashed a reassuring smile at her. He watched as Alyssa's face reddened and started to stammer.
"I'm-I'm sorry, Percy," Said Alyssa, embarrassed. "I didn't mean to and i-if I knew that you were behind me, I wouldn't have-"
"No, no, it's fine, Alyssa," Said Percy quickly. "Don't worry about it, okay?"
Alyssa nodded and bit her lips before sheepishly looking away. Percy half-smiled at the girl and watched as Alyssa walked up to the desk and quickly signed her name on the sign-out sheet.
Percy then signed his name after Alyssa quickly left. He glanced at Mr. Hypnos, who was peacefully asleep on his desk. He dropped the pen onto the paper and walked out of the class.
His sea-green eyes looked away when he saw some winks and hair twirls in his direction and opened the door. Percy groaned and shook his head, turning around the corner. He spotted Alyssa with her friend, celine, and they were talking. Alyssa buried her face in her hands while Celine excitedly asked her about something. A soft smile flickered on his face.
Alyssa ran the Percy Jackson Fanclub, which Percy still thought was weird, but he was very flattered when it formed. Alyssa was a sweet girl though she was quite flustered around him...but it seemed like everyone was flustered around him.
Instead of following the girls down the hallway, Percy had stopped and opened the office door. He was an office helper and helped Miss. Vesta with stuff. Percy settled his binder onto the table and walked up to Miss. Vesta's desk.
"Oh, hello, Percy," Smiled Miss. Vesta. "How are you?"
"I'm good," Nodded Percy, smiling. "How about you?"
"I'm doing wonderful," Said Miss. Vesta, before grabbing a stack of new books and flopped onto her desk. "Anyways, can you get those to Ms. Minerva in the library?"
He blinked at Miss. Vesta, who cocked an eyebrow at him. Miss. Vesta chuckled, "I can trust that you wouldn't cause any trouble?"
"Uh, yeah, of course," Said Percy sheepishly, grabbing the stack of books. "I'll get them to her now."
"Good," Smiled Miss. Vesta.
She handed him an office pass before looking away to her computer, and Percy left the office. He carried the books to the library while his mind raced on what to say to Ms. Minerva when he walked in.
Everyone knew that Percy didn't have the best reputation with the librarian of their school after the accident that happened during his sophomore year...He was deemed a troublesome kid in her eyes.
Percy gulped the clot that formed in his throat when he stopped outside the library and opened the door. He opened his mouth to speak, but Ms. Minerva glanced up from her book.
"Put the books down on the table," Directed Ms. Minerva.
"O-oh, alright," Nodded Percy, walking over to the table.
He carefully dropped the books onto the table before quickly walking back to the door. Percy could feel Ms. Minerva's hard, cold gaze on him as he left.
He sighed in relief when he opened the door, and Percy sat down at his table with Lucy. Lucy was also an office helper and sometimes helped him with his homework though she was usually reading a book.
"Hey, Percy!" Said Lucy, perking up from her book. "How are you?"
"I'm good," Smiled Percy then asked, "What are you reading about this time-oh, it is the demigod series again?"
"Don't sound too disappointed, Percy," Laughed Lucy, closing the book. "But yes, I am reading the demigod series again-what can I say? I'm a sucker for greek mythology."
Percy chuckled and said, "I have nothing against that book-Annabeth is still reading it."
"Well, Annabeth has good taste," Smiled Lucy at him. "You're quite lucky, Percy, Annabeth is lovely person."
Percy nodded with a blush, "I know."
