Chapter Thirteen
"This is the one I was telling you about. I got it from a rare book dealer in Germany. Cost me two hundred bucks, but it was totally worth it." Mason said to Liam showing him the book.
"You're still reading about this stuff?" Liam asked.
"I was attacked by an armor-plated giant wearing a bear skull. It left an impression. Look, look, have you ever seen anything like this?" Mason showed his best friend the picture of a Berserker.
"Uh no. never."
"And then there's this whole section on the Nagual. He you ever heard of the name Tezcat..." Mason struggled.
"Tezcatlipoca. No, no, never heard of him."
The two boys walked into their classes, Liam let out a groan as he looked at the girl in next to him. Isabelle, who had the seat in front of him turned to her boyfriend and raised an eyebrow.
"Great." Liam said.
Liam looked around the class, looking for an empty seat.
"Liam," Mr. Yukimura spoke, gaining his attention. "You're not gonna just stand there, are you?"
Liam looked at the girl next to him, making Isabelle turn to her too. "Maybe," he nodded.
"The whole semester?"
"Maybe."
"Liam, have a seat."
Isabelle was watching her boyfriend as he sat down and shifted in his seat, raising slightly to reveal gum on his chair and his butt (a/n: we were all blessed). Mason smiled and the girl next to Liam smirked, Isabelle frowned at her boyfriend and turned around in her seat.
Isabelle waited for Liam and Mason outside of the boys' bathroom. When the door opened it had revealed Liam and Mason, Liam wearing his shorts because of the gum incident.
"Look I'm not saying I believe all of it a hundred percent but people around us seem to know things. Like Lydia, she knows things. And Isabelle." Mason looked to the girl who sighed.
"Dude, it's the first day of school. Shouldn't you be thinking about other things like... the soccer team?"
"What do you think I'm going to do? Follow them out to the field and watch them practice while I pretend to study?"
"It's warm out. They're probably gonna be shirtless."
Mason sighed, "I'll see you in Physics."
Mason walked away and Liam turned to his girlfriend, "hey, baby." he said, leaning in to kiss her. Before their lips could meet they were interrupted.
"Nice shorts." a voice spoke, making the couple break apart.
"Yeah, thanks. You know, I was wondering if you were still pissed off about the sixth grade, but I guess you cleared that up." Liam said to the girl.
"I'm not pissed off, Liam. I'm vengeful." Hayden locked the lock and walked away.
"More like petty." Isabelle mumbled, making her boyfriend turn to her.
"Angel, you reek of jealousy." Liam said.
"And you reek of you're into her." Isabelle replied, walking off.
Isabelle groaned as Stiles had forced her into the Jeep. "I'm pretty sure this is considered kidnapping." She said.
"What's a Criminal Tremor?" Liam asked, holding up a green sheet of paper.
Stiles grabbed the paper from Liam's hand. "It doesn't matter." the older boy replied.
The three hid in the bushes as they watched Theo grab something from his trunk.
"I told you he was up to something." Stiles whispered.
"Yes, Stiles, you're a genius." Isabelle replied sarcastically. "You just made us watch him play video games in his room for three hours. So, what's his diabolical plan?"
"He better be out here covering up mass murder." Liam added.
"Let's find out."
"You still got his scent?" Stiles asked.
Isabelle pointed to the footprints in the ground, "don't need it."
Liam stopped walking and when Stiles noticed, he stopped too. "What? What's wrong?"
"I forgot, I was supposed to meet Mason at the school gym." Liam replied.
"I still don't understand why we can't just tell him, everyone said it was okay." Isabelle crossed her arms.
"It's not that easy. It's a lot to accept."
"He watched my dad blow up a Berserker with a land mine. I think the ground work's been pretty thoroughly laid for acceptance. Scott, Isabelle, and I have been through this, okay? More than once. It's always better when they know." Stiles said.
As Stiles and Isabelle began to walk away Liam asked, "But what if he freaks out? What if he doesn't want to talk to me?"
"What if he tries to stab you with some silver?" Isabelle asked sarcastically. "Liam, this is Mason we're talking ab-"
Isabelle was cut off by a thud making her and Stiles turn around. "What the hell are you doing?" Stiles asked.
"I..."
"There he is. Hurry up. Stop screwing around."
Liam found Isabelle and Stiles hidden behind a tree branch, the girls head leaned on his shoulder, ready to sleep any minute.
"Try and get his scent." Stiles told Liam. "Get anything?"
"Soap. It's nice, it smells good."
"Not his soap, his emotional state. Chemosignals, remember?"
"Oh, yeah, okay. He's sad."
"Sad?" Isabelle asked, she picked her head off of Stiles and onto her boyfriend, who she was still upset with.
"Well, not just sad... it's more like grief."
"Grief?" Stiles asked.
The three watched as Theo threw a flower into the pond. "How evil." Isabelle gasped, sarcastically. "What's next? Petting dogs? Helping old ladies cross the street? What has today's youth come to."
"Oh, my god! Go! We have to go." Stiles said,
"What? Why?" Liam asked.
"Go! Right now. Just go."
"It's the bridge where they found his sister, isn't it?" Isabelle asked Stiles, receiving a nod.
"What sister?" Liam asked.
"The one that got lost and died from exposure. He's leaving a flower for her." Stiles explained.
"That doesn't sound evil."
"I know, hence Isabelle's sarcastic remarks.
"Guys." Isabelle said looking up at the tree.
Theo hopped off of the tree branch. "What are you guys doing?" he asked. Theo began to get closer, making Liam growl, "whoa," the put his hands up, "why do I get the feeling this kid's tougher than he looks."
"Only when we let him off his leash." Isabelle replied.
"Stiles, we were in Little League together. Isabelle, you had a crush on m-"
"I was seven!" Isabelle exclaimed.
"Why are you two so suspicious of me?"
"I am not, he is." Isabelle said, pointing to Stiles.
Stiles dug into his pockets, "Because of these." Stiles said while handing Theo the papers. "One's a speeding ticket signed by your dad eight years ago. The other one's a signature on a transfer form to Beacon Hills. They're different."
"Huh. Yeah, they do look a little different."
"No, they're totally different. Signed by two different people."
"So my dad's not my dad? Like he's an imposter?"
"Yeah, something like that." Liam said.
"Who do you think I am?"
"We don't know yet." Stiles replied.
"Want me to give you a DNA sample or something?"
"No, I don't have anything from the fourth grade to match it to."
"You know, Stiles, I came back here for Scott... but I also came back for you and Isabelle. Someone like you two. Someone who's willing to walk into the woods in the middle of the night to protect his or her friends. I don't have anyone like that, but Scott does. You all do. I know I'm in the right place. I'm meant to be here. I'm meant to be part of this pack."
The three walked back to the Jeep, pausing once they saw Scott's bike.
"Find anything?" Scott asked.
"Nope." Stiles replied.
"I fell in a hole." Liam shrugged
Isabelle frowned as she rested her head on Liam, "I'm still mad at you." She mumbled.
"What? Why?"
"Hayden."
"Isabelle."
"You like her, Liam, and it's obvious. She likes you too, I could tell from the second you two saw each other."
"Isa-"
"Liam, just do me a favor, get in the car and turn the ignition when I say."
Liam got into the car, Isabelle not bothering to follow him. She watched her two brothers talk and as Liam started the car. She watched as Stiles got so aggravated he punched the Jeep and Scott taking his hand to help him.
Isabelle found herself sitting in her room, pondering over everything that's happened over the past couple of years, tears welled in her eyes as she looked around her bedroom. She frowned at the thought of that Hayden girl and Liam, she knew when two people were into each other. She didn't know the difference between the looks she received and the ones Hayden got from Liam. She played with the chain around her neck, a gold necklace with a rose on the charm with "until the last petal falls', Liam had given it to her on their six month anniversary with a dozen roses, one of them was fake. The necklace was a reference to their first kiss when he had called her "Belle". Isabelle smiled at the memory but it hurt her. Isabelle's phone vibrated on her nightstand, signaling a message. She grabbed the phone and saw that the text was from Liam, she unlocked her phone and read it.
'I know you think something's going to happen between Hayden and I but I just need you to know that I love you. Only you, Isabelle. I couldn't imagine a day without you, baby. Scott can smell your chemosignals, he told me you were sad. Baby, I love you so freakin much, it hurts me. Please be happy, baby girl. I'll see you tomorrow, meet at your locker and I'll walk you to class. Goodnight, I love you.'
