Chapter Five
EDITED
The players of the lacrosse team whistled as Isabelle entered the locker room, Liam by her side. She grabbed onto Liam's hand, noticing it was clenched into a fist before she did. Liam was shocked that even with all the different smells of a high school boys locker room the scent of Isabelle seemed to overpower it all. She smelt like lavender and brown sugar, he had never felt so at peace than he did when he was by her. "Guys, back off." Coach begins, the team circling around him. "You can get your gear tomorrow. If anybody sees Garrett, you notify the police. Then, tell him he's off the damn team." Coach said while Isabelle and Liam kept walking. They stopped at the corner and poked their heads out.
"Dad, really, I'm okay." They heard Scott say.
"I should've been here. And I said I would be at the games." The older male said, making Isabelle frown.
"Well, I mean, this was just a preseason scrimmage. I didn't even tell you about it." Scott said.
"But I promised your mom I'd be around so she could pick up some double shifts at the hospital. I should've been here."
"You're here now."
Isabelle looked behind Scott to see Violet in handcuffs next to Parrish and in front of the sheriff.
Scott turned around after hearing Violet mention the deputy's name and glared as her and the deputy kept walking. She smirked at the alpha, and then looked at his sister to do the same.
"Sheriff, what is that? Is that the weapon?" Agent McCall asked.
"Yeah." The Sheriff sighed. "It's a thermo-cut wire." Stilinski answered, showing the bag. The two older men walked away as Isabelle and Liam turned the corner and met Scott. The second they got close enough Isabelle dropped Liam's hand and hugged her brother.
"Where's Kira?" Scott asked, holding on to his sister.
"She took off." Isabelle stated.
"Stiles told her about Lydia cracking the second part of the dead pool." Liam finished.
"Her mom's on it."
"Everyone's on it." Liam answered.
"You're not."
"Not yet. There's still another third, right?" Liam questioned.
Scott zoned out, Liam following his lead as the both listened to the law enforcements talking to Violet.
"Stupid werewolves with their stupid werewolf hearing." Isabelle muttered, knowing they could hear her dad and the sheriff talking. "Always hated that bitch." She mumbled again, referring to Violet.
Scott and Liam looked at each other, making Isabelle sigh. "I hate you both."
Isabelle had once again found herself in the locker room with Liam and Scott. Scott was opening Garrett's locker and the two freshmen kept guard.
"I think someone's coming." Liam rushed, turning to the older bot. "Hurry." Scott unzipped a red duffle bag, Isabelle looked in his direction. "You find anything?" Liam asked.
Scott hesitated for a moment, "No. nothing." he replied, though Isabelle knew he was lying. She didn't need werewolf senses to know it.
Isabelle laid on Scott's bed, looking up at the ceiling as Scott could hear what his mother was saying over the phone from down stairs.
"What's she saying?" Isabelle whispered, fidgeting with the loose string of his comforter. She sat up to look at her brother when it hit him.
It was times like this where Scott's heart broke for his sister. Knowing she wasn't as tough as she liked to believe, she was all talk most of the time. She hadn't left him since what happened at the scrimmage, she knew something was wrong with her family. Scott knew it was his duty to protect his sister, because she always came first to him. But he couldn't lie about what he was hearing, she would find out on her own.
"Mom's begging to have the power turned back on, for a few hours at least." Scott whispered back, he looked down to where he had stored the bag of money he found in Garrett's locker as Isabelle sighed.
Sometimes Scott had to remind himself that his sister is just a kid at the end of the day, she deserved to live her life like the kids her age were supposed to.
"Sometimes I hide money for mom to find." She admitted. Scott looked at her, his eyes soft.
"She knows."
"She does?"
"Of course she does." Scott spoke, "She didn't for a while but she was finding cash so often she realized something was off."
"I thought I was being so slick."
"It's not just that we were friends with them. They were using us for their cover. I mean, professional killers were using us. How are you not freaking out about that?" Mason ranted as he and Liam went on a walk.
"Trust me, I'm freaking out about a lot." Liam said, running ahead.
"Like Isabelle?" Liam began to run faster. "Liam, slow down. Liam! I was just kidding!" Mason shouted, stopping to catch his breath.
Isabelle stood in the doorway of Coach's office with Mason and Scott, watching as the older man took a sip of day time cold medicine. He let out a cough as he turned the the students.
"Sorry, guys, Liam skipped my class. Maybe he's sick. Like me." Coach said, taking another sip of the medicine.
"Liam didn't look sick on our run." Mason said, looking at the siblings.
"He's not getting back to any of my texts." Scott said, looking down at his phone.
"Mine either," Isabelle said, showing her brother the phone, "and he always replies to me right away." Isabelle sighed as she looked at her friend.
"Mine either." Mason huffed, walking away. The bell rang as Mason began to walk to class. Students started shuffling through the hallway
"Yeah, don't worry. I'll find him." Scott said.
"Text one of us if you see him, Mase." Isabelle begged.
Mason smirked at his worried best friend, he knew Isabelle for what seemed like forever, he knew she had some sort of feelings for his other best friend, though she would most likely deny it.
"Alright." Mason replied as he walked away.
"Scott, Liam's calling you!" Isabelle nearly screamed, as she looked down at Scott's phone.
Scott accepted the call and pressed the phone to his ear, "Liam?" Scott questioned as he stopped walking.
"Sounds like you already know the answer to that, Scott." The voice on the other end said. Garrett.
"Where is he?" Scott questioned, as Isabelle looked at him worriedly. The two started walking again.
"It's not Liam?" Isabelle mouthed to her brother, he shook his head in response.
"Come on. Like I'm actually going to tell you that." Garrett said.
"I'll give you the money."
"Yeah, you will. But that's not going to get you Liam back. You're going to have to put in a little more effort than that."
"What do you want?" Scott questioned.
"I want the money. And Violet." Garrett replied,, "Or you never see Liam again."
Isabelle looked at her brother as he hung up the phone.
"You're going to meet with Garrett? Are you insane? He wants to kill you, Scott!" Isabelle ranted.
"Izzy, lots of people want to kill me."
"Right now, I want to kill you. Scott, you can't meet him."
"You want Liam back, right?" Scott asked.
"Yeah, but I want my brother alive too."
"Look, Isabelle, I'll be fine, and I'll get your little boyfriend ba-"
"He is not my boyfriend."
"Have you forgotten my high sense of smell and the ability to hear your heartbeat? You like him, he likes you." Scott tilted his head with an amused look on his face.
"Shut up, he does not. And I do not." The girl sighed in defeat. "Just make it out alive. Both of you."
"I promise I will. I want you to stay back, don't follow. Stay home or go to Mason's or something but do not follow me, Izzy."
Isabelle walked to Mason's house, she had barely spent time with him since she returned from her trip to Mexico.
"Movie night?" Isabelle asked as soon as Mason opened the door, holding plastic bags from the corner store in her hands.
"I like the way you think, McCall. Sleeping over?" Mason smiled and let his friend in.
"You know it."
Isabelle and Mason sat in the living room. They had made their way through two and a half movies, 'Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List', one of their favorites, 'Clueless', and they were halfway through 'Another Cinderella Story'. Mason paused the movie and looked at his best friend.
"Why'd ya pause it?" Isabelle asked, with a mouthful of nacho cheese Doritos.
"Okay, first of all, you're disgusting." Mason began with a grimace, "Secondly, what's up with you and Liam, it is eating me up."
"Nothing's going on, Mason. Him and I are friends. Just friends." Isabelle sighed.
"Isabelle, what do you want to be?"
"Mason, him and I have known each other for like two weeks. He's barely alone with me for us to get to know each other properly."
"You two were holding hands after the scrimmage." Mason stated.
"It kind of just happened." She shrugged.
"Isabelle, you like him, why be stubborn about it?"
"I'm not being stubborn, I don't know the guy well enough to actually have feelings for him. Is he cute? Yes, absolutely. Is he funny? Extremely. Is he one of the nicest guys I have ever met? Heck yeah. But that's all I've got."
"You guys listen to the same music. You guys watch the same shows. You guys have so much in common actually."
"Mase, are you trying to set me up with Liam?" Isabelle jokes.
"You guys would honestly be the perfect couple." Mason sighed, dreamily.
"You're a hopeless romantic, Hewitt."
"Deaton?" Isabelle answered her ringing phone.
"Isabelle, it's Scott. Come." Deaton rushed and hung up.
"Mas-"
"Gotta leave? That's not surprising." Mason signed.
"Scott's boss needs me. I think Scott's hurt. I'll come back right after but I need to see my brother."
"See him. We can continue this another day."
"Hey, there. I was actually hoping you would be out for a few more minutes." Deaton said, standing over Scott who had finally opened his eyes. Scott looked down at his body.
"Scott, this is going to hurt," Argent said, pulling out the sword stuck in Scott. Scott let out a loud groan as Argent pulled the dagger out. "You alright?" Argent asked as Scott stood up.
"Where's my dad and the sheriff?" Scott groaned.
"They're at the hospital." Deaton began, putting gauze where the dagger had pierced, "They're both doing fine. Hold this." Deaton said, Scott nodded.
"It was Kate." Scott panted. "It was her and the Berserkers." Scott said, holding the pad to his wound.
"We know." Isabelle, who Scott hadn't noticed was there, said.
"But they move fast. And they don't leave much in the way of tracks." Chris stated.
"We have to find her. She's got Violet. I think Violet knows where Liam is." Scott said, looking at Isabelle.
"Then as much as this hurt, it could probably also help. Can you catch the scent?" Deaton held up the weapon and Scott took it.
"Can I come?" Isabelle asked.
"You can stay in the car." Chris said, giving the girl a pointed look.
"But I-"
"In the car or no deal."
"Fine." Isabelle sighed.
"You're staying in here so stop whining." Chris said as he drove with Isabelle by his side.
"Just promise me you and Scott will stay safe." Isabelle sighed. "Scott hasn't been doing a good enough job keeping that promise the past few days."
"I promise that I'll try my very hardest to keep myself and your brother safe."
"I'll take it."
Liam had fallen to the bottom of the well for what seemed like the thousandth time. He grumbled to himself as he resurfaced from the water that had only slightly broken his fall.
"Come on!" He exclaimed, punching a brick from the well and letting out a groan.
"You did that," Scott's voice rang through Liam's mind as he remembered one of his first times Scott had mentored him. "You went right through it."
"I jumped through the window?" Liam asked, looking at the broken glass from Lydia's boathouse.
"The cuts healed while you were changed." Scott replied, Liam looked at the palm of his hand.
"I guess that's one good thing."
"For you." Scott began, "For someone else it could be really bad. We need to figure out how you can get a grip on this."
"I've been trying to do that for years." Liam admitted.
"What does your dad say?"
"He says when kids get angry they deal with it in one of two ways. They either hurt themselves or they hurt someone else."
Liam looked up towards the opening of the well, wanting desperately to get out. He places one hand over the other, pushing himself forward.
Isabelle sat in the car as Chris and Scott stood outside the warehouse, she poked her head out the window, Chris didn't trust her to not going running so he had child locked the door.
"Is this your place?" She asked as she read the lettering of the warehouse.
Argent Arms International
"I worked here," Chris began. "We used to own the building. It was part of our business."
"I've fought these things before." Scott said. "They're strong. Really strong."
"That's why I brought this." Argent began, opening the backseat of his car to reveal a gun.
"Holy-" The older man gave her another pointed look before she could let out a swear. "Sheets of paper." He grabbed the gun to show Scott.
"I'm good with that." Scott said.
"Me too," Isabelle said. "If I can't have supernatural powers can I get a gun?"
"No!" Both Chris and Scott exclaimed.
Isabelle and Scott found themselves in the oh so familiar woods. Scott heard Liam yell, almost howl, which led the two to the well.
"He's in there." Scott said, pointing to the nearly sealed well.
Isabelle and Scott looked inside, seeing a struggling Liam who had almost lost his grip.
"He's gonna fall." Isabelle said as Scott grabbed Liam's hand to pull him up. Scott supported Liam as he stepped out of the well. The younger boy was breathing heavily and shaking.
"You're okay, Liam. You're okay." The alpha said, hugging the boy.
Scott looked at his sister and pulled away. Isabelle made her way to the boy and hugged him.
"I'm all wet and sweaty." Liam whispered to the girl.
"I don't care." Isabelle whispered back. "I don't plan on letting go for a few minutes."
The boy stopped shaking as he was held in the smaller girl's arms. Scott raised his eyebrow as the younger boy calmed down instantly by the girl. Liam kissed Isabelle's shoulder lightly. "I'm so glad you're okay." Isabelle muttered into Liam's shoulder.
"Me too, angel, me too."
Isabelle found herself holding on to Liam's hand as Deaton sliced down Liam's chest. Green fog released through the incision and Liam let out a breath. Isabelle grimaced and looked at Scott.
"I don't want to keep watching people die." Scott said, Isabelle nodded in agreement.
"I'm not sure you have much choice about that." Chris spoke.
"Maybe I do." Scott replied.
"That's a lot of burden to carry, Scott." Deaton told the boy. Isabelle sat for a moment worrying about her brother.
"I don't care." Scott said, shaking his head slightly. "No one else dies. Everyone on that list. Everyone on that Dead Pool. It doesn't matter if they're wendigos or werewolves, or whatever. I'm gonna save everyone."
"And you have a pack to help you." Isabelle said, placing her hand on her brother's shoulder. "I'll always have your back, Scotty."
