She worried. She flew threw the sky as fast as she could. She doesn't know what's happening, but she knows it's bad. She thinks, "Will I get there in time? Will she be okay?" She doesn't know who "she" is, but she can't remember why. "The name, the name, what was her name?" She chants to the rhythm of her wings.
Suddenly she remembers. "She" is her sister, the sister who is about to be lost forever. The girl flew on. Faster and faster.
"Come on!" She whispers to herself impatiently.
She flies, seemingly slow, over mountains, and rivers, and streams.
She MUST get there,to that place. The place where she and her sister had peace. She must get to the girl who was as free as the birds, but was chained and weighted to the ground by her own doing. This girl, her sister, had wings, but she had not yet chosen to break free. Over the years, the chains had gotten tighter, the weights heavier. The girl knew that if she didn't get there in time, her sister would jump off the Cliff of Eternity. Never to return.
Finally, the girl arrived. She arrived just in time to see her sister jump the cliff. The girl runs to try and grab her sister, when she stops and stares in wonder. Instead of her sister letting her chains drag her to the bottom, she sheds them just in time to fly! The girl rejoices, for her sister is free! Her sister leaps into the sky without looking back... and then is gone. She doesn't look back.
The girl, left behind and weary from her fast-paced journey there, looks forlornly at the sky where her sister disappeared. She sat on the ground and began to wait. And wait. And wait. She sat there for 45 days, and 45 nights. And on the dawning of the 46th morning, the girl got up and walked to the edge of the Cliff of Eternity.
And she jumped into the swirling, tumbling, darkness, too late she heard her name, from a voice calling out to her from above, the name she hadn't heard in so long.
And with the voice of her sister behind her, forever calling into eternity, forever too late, the girl fell.
