Missing

One by one people began to introduce themselves to me. Everyone seemed a bit more cautious than before, giving me more space, and I was all the more grateful for them. My senses could settle.

A short, blue haired girl in a cute orange outfit approached me first.

"Hiyah! The name's Levy McGarden, its great to meet you." She said with an even, excited voice. She was a few inches shorter than me, but I could tell she was older, even if her curves were less pronounced than mine. Perhaps it was her tone of voice.

"Nice to meet you too, Levy." I smiled softly, "I'm Jay. What kind of magic do you use?"

"Solid Script Magic, babe." She said, flipping her shoulder length hair, "You're talkin' to Fairy Tail's biggest book worm." She then manifested a real red word by waving her index finger in the air. The bubbly text spelled out LOVE. I gasped and laughed in amazement before the word popped and disappeared.

"Gray Fullbuster," I heard a deep, laid-back voice behind me say. I turned to see the attractive black-haired guy, "I'm what you call an Ice Make wizard." He said, cutting right to the chase and making me a beautiful snowflake in the palm of his hand. My eyes widened, and I stepped closer to him to poke at the flake. It puffed out of existence when my fingertip made contact with it.

"Wow..." I breathed. Beside Lucy's magic, his was the most enchanting I'd seen.

"Gray, your clothes." The deep red-haired woman from before said, and I kept my eyes trained on his as he panicked to cover his now naked figure. When did he even strip...

"Hello, Jay." I heard a soft, elegant voice say, and I turned to be met with another blue-haired woman. Her hair was longer than Levy's though, and she wore a deep blue winter dress and hat. I smiled, attracted to the eccentric aura she gave off.

"Hello," I replied, extending my hand which she gladly shook, "What's your name?"

"Juvia Lockser." She replied, bowing her head, "Juvia uses water magic." While I stood confused from her speaking in third person, she made it rain small drops of water in the room. As her raindrops touched my skin, the same sensation I felt in Lucy's bath enveloped my being. I felt even better than before.

I was about to ask her to do it again before the redhead woman walked up to me. The sound of her clanking armor and heavy boots alarmed my ears, and I was instantly curious about who she was.

"Welcome to Fairy Tail." She said, her voice light but stern.

"Thank you." I replied with a bright smile, "And you are?"

She smiled back, squaring her shoulders, "Erza Scarlet, one of Fairy Tail's S-Class mages."

My eyes widened. So she was one as well. "Whoa." I mumbled, "What's your magic type?"

She smiled and rose her hand. It illuminated, and when the light died down, I saw a long, thin sword fabricated into her grip, "I'm a Requip Mage. I can change into hundreds of different armors and use just as many weapons in combat." She took my breath away, "Each set of armor and weapons enhance my magic output."

And then she turned her armor into a cheetah outfit in the flash of light, just by saying "Requip!" The outfit enhanced her speed and I watched in awe as she sped around the guild and back to me before returning to her original armor.

I met a few more people before I came to sit down at the table Gray and Erza were at when I arrived.

"So, Jay," Gray began, and I noticed how Juvia came to sit right beside him and just... gazed at him... as if he were the only one in the room. It shocked me honestly, though he didn't seem to mind it... or he was just really used to it, "Is it true?" He continued, "You can't remember anything?"

I sighed as everyone around us listened curiously. I shook my head, "Not a single thing... uh-besides the word Jay. Lucy and I agreed for it to be my name as a result."

Levy came to sit on the edge of the table near me, "Well, on the bright side, you can remember how to converse and understand what we're saying."

"Yeah, it could be much worse," Lucy added quickly, resting her hand over mine from where she stood, "And you couldn't have landed in a better place, I promise." They all nodded in agreement with the blonde and I blushed shyly.

"I just wish I didn't feel so... out of control." I replied quietly, "There's so much to learn and none of it includes the things I used to know."

Erza sighed, "Well, the important thing is that you can start again. You could've died from your fall, but here you are. One of us."

I smiled hopefully and nodded to her. My eyes trailed to Lucy as she came to sit at my side, a straight face etched across her mouth, "I just hate Natsu and Happy aren't here right now. I know they'd cheer you right up." She said.

I quirked an eyebrow, and before I could reply, Mirajane's giant brother known as Elfman stepped up.

Apparently, they used "Take-Over" magic, allowing them to shapeshift into different monstrous forms. I couldn't imagine someone like Mirajane being anything close to monstrous, but it was easy to imagine with her brother. He was literally a beast on his own, walking around as the tallest and widest man in the room. After his introduction, he told me they had a younger sister who used the same magic, but I had yet to meet her.

"No worries," The Strauss brother bellowed, "They and their fur-balls are out there fighting for the guild like real men!" I chuckled at him.

Levy sighed and looked at Lucy, "That's right, they did take the exceeds with them."

I tilted my head, "What's an exceed?"

"A species of magical flying cats." Erza replied casually, "They serve as companions to Dragon Slayors, and our first-generation Dragon Slayors have one each."

I blinked, my mind beginning to whirl, "Wait a minute," I said, chuckling in disbelief, "You have flying cats?"

They all laughed at my shock, "Yeah," Levy replied, "In addition to other magical creatures on Earthland. Happy is one of them." She said, pointing to Lucy to refer back to one of the names the blonde spoke of.

"Oh." I replied, not about to waste another breath disbelieving them when I'd witnessed them all using magic a moment ago. I think it's safe to say anything goes in this world. But then I backtracked to something Erza said about the Dragon Slayors, and I turned to her, "And what do you mean 'first-generation' Dragon Slayors?"

"The first-generation ones are the ones who were raised and taught by dragons." She explained, "We have three of those and one from the second generation: Laxus Dreyer." My eyes drifted off in thought, but I continued to listen to her, "Second-generation slayors don't interact with dragons. They're enhanced. Synthetic, if you will."

I rose an eyebrow, thinking of the second-generation slayor's last name, "Dreyer... Isn't that—"

"The last name of our guild master." Erza answered my voiced thoughts, "You're very quick, Jay."

My eyes widened, "One of your Dragon Slayors is related to Master Makarov?"

They all nodded.

"He's the old geezer's grandson." Gray replied and a grin broke out on my face. It was nice getting to know more about the guild, even though I knew I was only scratching the surface.

"And he's gone with the rest of them?" I asked Lucy, a little upset I didn't get to meet more of Makarov's family. Especially since the ones who were missing were the talk of the litter in the guild. They must have been crazy powerful.

She nodded, "Yeah. Like I said, I'm sorry you don't get to meet them right away. I can't wait to tell Natsu we have a new member, he'll be so excited to meet you."

I noticed how much she kept mentioning that certain Dragon Slayor and tilted my head, "Who is Natsu?"

A soft smile broke out on her face, along with a faint blush that made me smirk slightly.

"He's your boyfriend?" I surmised, and everyone within earshot burst out laughing. Lucy's face turned red and hot steam shot out of her ears.

"What?! Oh, no no no!" She replied, her voice getting all high and flustered, "He is not my guy, but he is my best friend." She said, still blushing profusely. I giggled to myself.

She probably liked him. And considering it was Lucy, a literal angel walking, I wouldn't have been surprised if Natsu liked her as well.

"Well," I heard Mirajane say as she walked from behind the bar and joined us, "Now that you're familiar enough with a few people, why don't we go find you a room in the upstairs dormitory?" She asked. I smiled excitedly before nodding to Mirajane. The white-haired woman giggled at my enthusiasm and took my hand, guiding me to the stairs.

We breezed past a few guild members, all of whom sent casual smiles and nods my way. I didn't know what I was so nervous about before—everyone was so warm. No one seemed to be feigning graciousness or approval. The vibe of the guild was very relaxed and open, despite its rowdiness at first glance.

"You can room with Wendy." Mirajane said, snapping me out of my thoughts. We reached the top of the stairs and I looked down to the other guild members, seeing them all back to their rambunctious demeanor. Mirajane led me down a large hallway for a while before taking another turn to our left. We passed by doors which were painted different colors from the brown wood I'd been seeing.

"Who is Wendy?" I asked as we stopped in front of a light blue door and Mirajane fished for the right key out of a crowded key ring. She smiled softly.

"She's the youngest active member of our guild. One of our four Dragon Slayors." She replied and my eyes widened.

"How old is she?"

"Fourteen." She replied and my jaw dropped, "She's such a sweetheart, very brave too." She added, finally finding the right key for the door and unlocking it.

I was welcomed by two beds, one blank and one blue with a baby blue duvet. Wendy's side. She had a couple of paintings up too, all cool-toned colors. I liked her style.

"We'd been trying to match her with a roommate, but everyone here is older than her and has a roommate already." Mirajane explained.

I frowned slightly, a little upset for the girl. I hoped she liked me when we met one another. If she was anything like the guild members I'd met so far, I knew I would like her.

"So, what colors are you thinking of for your side?" Mirajane asked. My eyes gazed at Wendy's side.

"I like her colors." I replied, "I'd just like more purple, maybe some light greens." I was really liking that color.

Mirajane nodded thoughtfully, "I'll be back with a purple comforter for your bed." She said kindly before leaving the room. I turned back to the room, walking on the white carpet slowly and looking up to the ceiling. The room's ceiling light took over my eyesight and I blinked to clear my head again before focusing on Wendy's side of the room.

I sighed in a sudden wave of contentment, and walked over to take a seat on my blank bed. I let my senses loosen a bit and listened to the chatter and sounds going off in the lobby. I focused when I heard Lucy's voice.

"But where could she have come from? Edolas, maybe?" I heard her say. I furrowed my eyebrows. Edolas? Where was that?

"No way," I heard Gray say, "We brought all of the magic there back home with us, and Mystogen made sure to cleanse it out. There's no way a magic user stayed back there for this long and then suddenly showed up now."

"He's right." Erza said, "All of the Animas were closed afterwards. It doesn't make any sense." She sounded a bit stressed.

"Well, hey," Levy chimed in, "Until we find out where she came from, let's just focus on making her stay here as nice as possible."

"You're right," Lucy said, "You should've seen her face when she woke up. The poor girl was terrified."

"Well it won't be a problem taking care of her here. She couldn't have picked a better place to fall into." Juvia's elegant voice said, "Isn't that right, my darling Gray?" She gushed, and my eyes widened at her shamelessness.

Gray hummed in response, "Still," He said, "If she's not a threat, someone else has to be."

"Always on defense." Lucy said, and I could hear her hair swaying against her face slightly. She was shaking her head at him, "Let's drop it for now. When the others get back and we're all together again, we can look into it further."

"Waiting on your boyfriend, are you?" Gray sneered and the surrounding people laughed. I counted five others.

Lucy growled, "Shut up, you damn popsicle. I'm just saying we all work better together."

"She's right about that." Erza said, still chuckling, "I'm sure he'll be excited to meet her as you said, Lucy." I furrowed my eyebrows. It sounded like there was a deeper meaning to her words. Why would Natsu be so happy to meet me?

"Right." Lucy agreed, "I mean when was the last time they came across a new one? The Grand Magic Games?"

A new one? A new what?

I was going to listen further, but then Mirajane returned with a sweet smile on her face and two comforters in her arms. I honed my senses back again.

"Sorry for the long wait, hun." She giggled apologetically, "I couldn't decide which one you'd prefer, so I brought both."

I was suddenly completely comfortable in the guild. While their conversation raised more questions for me, the words spoken amongst the group downstairs assured me that the people here sincerely wanted to help me. It was maybe too early to start trusting them, but I was running out of excuses not to. I was in an unknown world with no clue as to who I was, and these people were willing to help me.

That meant everything to me. So much so that a traitor tear slipped my eye. I felt so lucky to be with these strange people.

I felt at home.

Mirajane noticed my expression and her face dropped. She sat down the comforters and made her way over to me, taking a seat at my side, "Jay, what's the matter?" She asked in a soft concerned voice.

I could hear the frenzied beating of her heart, and another tear slipped my eye from realizing she was worried about me.

"Is your head hurting?" She asked, "Where are those pain killers Master gave you, hun? Is it the room? Do you not like it here? Are you scared?" I rested my hand on top of hers to stop her rambling.

"I'm okay, Mirajane." I said, wiping the tear away and smiling widely at her. She looked at me in confusion.

"Oh, please, call me Mira." She insisted, and I chuckled before nodding, "And if you're okay, then why are you crying?"

"Because I already love it here," I said, sniffling and chuckling, "And yeah, I'm confused and a little scared... But it feels good knowing I'm with good people." I said and Mirajane started smiling back to me, "I was worried you all were under some guise... But I don't know... I'm starting to believe I was wrong."

"Yeah," Mira chuckled, "Most people think that way about Fairy Tail when they're first introduced to us. But we thrive on the bonds forged in our guild. We love one another, and swore to protect anyone who needs us and has good morals." She said, patting my back gently.

"We all know you're scared... we're a little nervous too about your case ourselves," She said, "But I can promise you, even if you don't believe me, you're safe with us."

I grinned happily at her, "Thanks, Mira."

"No problem," She said, standing up from my bed and looking towards the comforters she sat down, "We can set one of those up later. Why don't we get back downstairs and get grab something to eat?" She said, and my stomach rumbled at the mere mention of food. My eyes widened and she giggled, "I'll take that as a yes." She said.

We headed back down to the guild lobby, and as we exited the first hallway, I heard a sudden alarmed voice downstairs. I froze, and Mira eventually stopped at the top of the stairs after noticing I stopped following her.

"What's the matter, hun?" She asked, her tone still light as I honed in on the quiet commotion in the lower level. A few more voices added to the disturbance, and I heard Gray and Erza ask silently what was going on from their table. It was either Lucy or Juvia that I heard shrug in response; they were around the same size and their movements weren't too far off from one another's.

Mira's eyebrows furrowed at me after a moment as she realized I was indeed concerned. I tried to listen in on the words of the guild members who started the commotion, but words blended together as they all stood in confusion and anxiety. It was too much to focus on.

Gray and Elfman finally stood up and walked over to whomever was spreading upsetting information, and just before Mirajane could walk over and likely ask if I was okay, her brother called her downstairs.

She looked between me and the gathering below and sent me a quick encouraging smile before descending the stairs.

Eventually, more and more guild members joined in the building uproar, and Master Makarov finally appeared from a room on the other side of the second floor. He looked at my frozen figure and then down to his gathering followers in confusion.

Something was wrong. Anyone would be able to tell.

Makarov went down the stairs to join the crowd, and I was left to watch and try to piece together information from above.

I spotted Lucy in the crowd and her eyes widened in a mix of shock, horror, and confusion. In her next breath, she was walking quickly back to her table and grabbing her brown key pouch that she'd left on it. I furrowed my eyebrows, seeing Gray and Erza follow after her. Gray grabbed his jacket from the back if his chair, and Erza reached under the table to pull out a black bag.

"Where do you all think you're going?" Makarov called to the three over the crowd.

The crowd quieted down from his outburst and Lucy, Erza, and Gray turned to the master.

"We're going to go get them." Erza said, her voice far from the line of reason.

I tilted my head, the lack of noise allowing me to think clearly and make a move. Makarov walked over to the three in ridicule.

"You don't even know where they are now. What are you going to do?" He grumbled.

"We know where to look." Gray retorted, "We memorized the location of their job request. Two of our general team members were sent in that group, we had to keep track of them."

I got down the stairs and approached Mirajane and Elfman. The two stared at the interaction between the master and the three guild members like a few others in the crowd.

"Mira," I approached her, and she looked at me for a second before her expression broke out in horror, like she was reminded of something from seeing me. I looked at her in question, "What's going on?"

She hesitated, "... The Dragon Slayors... have been abducted."

"What?" I asked in shock, "How? I thought... I thought they were on some mission."

"So did we." She said right, "We just got an distress signal from Laxus's lacrima sphere."

"His what?" I asked trying to keep up with the sudden change of events.

"It's a communication device we use here." She explained quickly, "He's never used an S-O-S message before. It's a last minute option, and only for when a Fairy Tail member needs immediate back up on a job. A distress S-O-S message is sent to the lacrima sphere of our guild's telepath, Warren, and it lets us know when one of our own has been taken. If an S-Class wizard is using an S-O-S message in general—"

"Their team is in serious trouble." I finished for her and she nodded, looking back to the master still talking to Lucy, Erza, and Gray.

"We tried getting another response from him, but his end is silent, so the slayors and the exceeds have all likely been taken." She finished, her voice suddenly course and full of anxiety.

"I'm starting to think that job was a trap from the get go." Elfman growled, "Who the hell needs all of a guild's Dragon Slayors for something less than a one hundred year's quest?"

Before anyone could reply, I heard Makarov put an end to his conversation with the three members, telling them he forbade them from going after the Dragon Slayors. The three were not happy about the order at all. Lucy was even on the verge of frustrated tears.

Makarov turned to the rest of the guild, "A deliberate attack on our family means an attack on our guild." He said, and he looked to Mira, "Call every Fairy Tail wizard on a job, and tell them to come back home. Whoever took the slayors may not stop at this." He looked at all of us, "They may very well be coming for all of us."

Instead of the guild unraveling in a panic, as I expected them to, they all stood firm and angry. I was amazed by how determined and focused they all were from this sudden incident. I was in awe. And then I was afraid.

"I'll go contact Lisanna and get her back here." Elfman said to Mira, and the two nodded to each other before both running off among the already moving crowd.

Makarov sent orders left and right, "Macao, get in contact with Sabertooth. Sting and Rogue will be interested in knowing about this." He ordered, and a dark-haired middle-aged man nodded to him before going to complete the task. He had people sending out calls and messages to other guild members, overlooking the outside of the guild hall, and so much more. I could do nothing but stand in place.

"Sir!" I heard from the front door, and saw Levy and few others reenter the guild, "Our connections in town said we have unknown company coming from a few miles in the South." My eyes widened as Makarov nodded, prepared.

"Jay," I heard Erza call me, and I turned to her in utter confusion, "I've been ordered to get you to safety. Come with me." She said and I furrowed my eyebrows as she began to pull me across the guild hall.

"Me? What about everyone else?" I asked in shock, "What's going on?"

"We don't know yet." She said, pulling me up the stairs and towards the room Master Makarov exited from, "All we know is that three days ago, you showed up with an abundance of magic power and our Dragon Slayors were requested for a sudden mission. Now, they're are missing." She explained.

I stared at her in horror, "This is my fault?"

She stopped at the entrance to the master's room, and turned to me, "No," She replied, "But we have to assume your incident and the current one are connected. They're too close to be coincidental." She explained before calling for Gray to follow after us. He turned and waved to Juvia, and the two ran up the stairs to us.

"Once we get a handle on whatever is happening, we will come and get you. But for now, we have to get you somewhere safe." Erza said.

And somewhere hidden. I thought. If my incident was indeed connected to the chaos springing up at the moment, just how would my presence affect the opposing side of Fairy Tail? For the first time since I arrived, I was upset about my "abundance of magic." Surely without it, I wouldn't matter much in this circumstance.

Fairy Tail was likely hiding me to keep me from being an asset to whoever was targeting them. Just who the hell am I?

Together, Erza, Gray, and Juvia ran me into what looked like the master's office.

Erza pulled on a certain book from a shelf to the back of the room, and the master's desk slid mechanically to the right. A large opening was exposed in the floor, and a wide staircase descended from it. My heart began to race. What the hell was going on?

Erza and Gray urged me forward and I shakily stepped toward before a huge blow was made at the front of the guild. I lost my balance and fell on the master's desk. Juvia stumbled as well, but Erza and Gray stood firm. My body tensed, and I froze in place.

I heard chaos ensue downstairs, and my mind ran ramped from shock. I felt my eyes brim with tears, and Erza came to my side and grabbed my attention.

"Hey, hey." She said quickly, noticing my mind beginning to unravel, "This is nothing we haven't done a million times before. You're okay, now I need you to listen to me, Jay."

I focused on the stern but calm tone of Erza's voice and fixed it in the center of my mind. Tears were sliding down my face quickly and my heart was pounding from shock, but Erza looked at me with upmost assurance.

I took a deep breath and nodded at her.

"You have to go down those stairs. It's the guild's underground bunker." She said and another crash knocked against the guild. The lights started to flicker, a strange sight since daylight was still pouring into the room from the windows. I shut my eyes and tried getting control of my senses again. Between the sound of the room's flickering lightbulbs, the chaos going on in the level below us, the feeling of the guild hall about to collapse at any moment, and the feeling of Erza's armor clad fingers on my shoulder, I didn't know what to focus on.

"Jay," Gray called, placing a hand on my other shoulder and causing my eyes to open, "You're not alone, alright?"

I furrowed my eyebrows at him.

"Everything will be okay. There's no reason for you to freak out if we aren't freaking out." He said calmly.

"This isn't your fault." Erza promised, her voice just as steady as Gray's. I let out a restrained breath, realizing they honestly believed what they were saying. It wasn't just to reassure me, they believed they had everything in control.

"Take a deep breath." Gray said, and I started breathing through my nose and out my mouth. The breaths were shaky, and it felt like my heart was stuttering. I was freaked out.

Juvia stepped toward me as well, "Juvia will go down with you."

Gray looked at her, "Juvia—"

"Jay does not need to be alone down there, my love." Juvia cut him off, "She's new and she's scared."

Scared. That was a great word for what I was feeling. All signs of happiness and joy, from not even an hour before, were all gone.

Gray hesitated but nodded to Juvia, and a bit of the sudden weight on my shoulders lifted from knowing I wasn't going down a dark flight of stairs alone.

"Okay, Jay," Erza said, and I looked at her, "See, it won't be so bad. Just take one step at a time and Juvia will be right with you."

I nodded, not trusting my voice.

Juvia grabbed my hand and pulled me forward. I looked back at Erza and Gray.

"We'll see you in a bit." Gray said, his voice still calm and Erza nodded with him. I sighed and followed after Juvia stiffly.

The stairwell was long and loud against me and Juvia's feet. Any form of light was stripped away once Erza and Gray closed the floor-door behind us, and Juvia tightened her hold on my hand in encouragement.
