Chapter fifteen

(Go see EyesOfAmethyst for her side of the story)

One week later. . .

I groan in frustration and fling the book I was reading across the bed. It's been a week since we've been stuck in this world and I still haven't figured out where exactly we were or how we got here. Or how to go home. I've been reading books non-stop, searching for clues or answers but so far- zilch. Nope. Zip. Nada. None.

Sighing, I rub my eyes. So far I haven't left the house for anything but the library. I go straight there and then right come back. That way I've been lucky enough to not have any encounters with Clay. Amethyst's been helping me search, but I could tell she was getting restless too. Every time she would open a book and not find any answers, she'd face palm and begin having a fit by slamming her head onto the table or something. I glance out the window and am surprised to see that the sun was almost done setting. I had been going at this for ten hours straight without stopping.

There was a knock on the door and Amethyst came in balancing a tray. "Hey. I brought you some dinner." She said and set the tray down beside me on the bed. "Any luck?" I shake my head no. She groans and rubs her head. "Ugh, this is harder then I thought it would be." "Yeah well, if teleporting across weird universes were easy, everyone would do it." I say, which she laughed at. "Yeah, I guess so. Anyway, I'll leave you alone to read. Dixie needs some help with washing the dishes." She patted my leg and left, closing the door behind her. I get up and light the oil lamp on the dresser and then look at the food. I had been given a few slices of beef brisket, a big bread roll, carrots, and a glass of water along with some silverware. I settle myself down on the bed, propped myself up with a pillow and busied myself with the food. Cutting the bread roll in half and stuffing some of the brisket in it I made a sandwich. As I began reaching for a book called "Do portals exist?" I stop and then decide to grab the book about Dawn and Dusk. I opened the book, took a bite of my sandwich, and began to read.

Chapter one: The understanding of Dawn and Dusk.

Continuing from the prologue, we have only just begun to scratch the surface of who Dawn and Dusk were. In this chapter, we shall tell you just a bit of what we know about them. For a more detailed description, continue on in the book. Over thousands of years ago, Dawn and Dusk appeared. They had appeared just as suddenly as they vanished. Lady Dawn and Lady Dusk traveled throughout the lands helping whoever needed help whether the problem was big or small. At first there was skepticism at who these two women were. Some welcomed their help. Others cast stones against them, scared of their power. But eventually, a time came where their powers were needed. A tyrant king who ruled most of the land of the Ty'ruck region had finally took it too far when he ordered the death of a village that failed to pay it's tax on time. The village was burned to the ground. It was said that it burned right before Dawn and Dusk's eyes.

That was when they had enough. They threatened the king to stop his tyrannical reign and he sent soldiers to go kill them. All he had to do was kill two troubled makers. He expected it to be easy. He was wrong. The soldiers he sent came running back, stammering about how they would never go back to fight them. None of the soldiers were hurt. At least not physically. But mentally, they were scared for life. When they had found Dawn and Dusk, they had been ready for battle. But instead they were met with something they had least expected. Themselves. Dawn and Dusk had used their powers to show the men every single life they've took. Every life they've destroyed. The soldiers were not bad men, at least not the ones the king sent the first time around. They were just men that were being forced to take lives by their king. But when they were forced to relive the terrible moments of their lives, they snapped. Outraged, the king sent armies to go kill Dawn and Dusk. Almost none of those armies returned. Those that did, were blinded. The king sent more and more of his soldiers after them, but each time his armies failed. Dawn and Dusk had rounded up an army of people to aid them in the fight. Now the king was not only outraged, but also baffled. How could two women cause so much trouble? While he thought about this, his mind began slipping away. But his sanity was already questionable. Meanwhile, the battle continued. More and more soldiers died as Dawn and Dusk defeated them. Finally, the battle ended when the king himself went riding into the battlefield, completely insane, and tried to kill the two women. Unsurprisingly, he died. The battle was over. The land was taken over by a series of small villages ruled by lords. And Dawn and Dusk were more well known then ever.

People began praising them, worshipping them, some even feared them. But their fame came with a cost. Now, conflicts raged across the lands, more violent then ever. So they were forced to fight again and again. Over time, they formed an army of loyal soldiers and led them into battles. Or did battle for them. Temples and palaces were built in honor of Dawn and Dusk.  They were showered with luxuries. People worshiped the ground they walked on. But they never asked for it. Not once did they ask for any of these things. They never even asked for a single thank you. They just did it. They did it anyway. I don't think anyone truly knows why. Maybe they were atoning for something they did in their past. Maybe that was just the kind of people they were. But whatever the reason, they continued helping those in need.

Dawn and Dusk appeared to be immortal. Hundreds of years passed and they never aged. Now the people were convinced more then ever that these women were gods. Many men tried to win their hearts. Some out of love. Some out of greed. But Dawn and Dusk never took on any lovers. I assume that they had suitors they were fond of, but aside from that they never led on any of them with false hope. Even the ones they were fond of, I'm certain their affection went no deeper then friendship. But it was obvious that they loved each other. They were almost always together, never leaving the other's side. There was no doubt that they loved each other. But in what way, is something that still baffles the historians of today. There were rumors that they loved each other romantically, but there was also a rumor that it was sisterly. Another rumor was that the love they had for each other was a simple friendship. We still do not know if Dawn and Dusk were related or not. For that, I leave up to you to decide.

I stare at the last sentence, my empty tray besides me. Up to me to decide? Hm. I don't know what to think. Honestly, I think that people should leave Dawn and Dusk's relationship alone. I doubt it's something anyone has to gawk at. I close the book with a sigh and place it on the drawer. My brain hurt from all this information. I notice that it was now fully dark outside. I want nothing more than to roll over and fall asleep, but I hear a loud conversation outside/below the window. Curious, I get up, open the window, and look down. Chase and Amethyst appeared to be arguing. I couldn't make out what they were saying, but Amethyst was waving her arms in anger and Chase was pulling at his hair. I strained my ears, trying to hear what Chase was saying and caught a few words. "Don't understand. . . You really. . . I can't help it!" Confused, I decided to make myself known. "Hey, you guys ok?" I call down to them. They both look up, startled. When Chase saw me, his eyes widened and he took of running towards the woods. Ok that was weird. I thought to myself. Amethyst looked up at me, shook her head and went back inside. I closed the window and rushed downstairs to talk to her only to be met by Dixie. "I don't think she wants to talk right now dear." She said glancing over her shoulder. "What?" "

Dear, I know Amethyst is your best friend, but some things are better left unsaid for now. I'm sure she'll tell you on her own terms, but until then let her space out ok? She and Chase just had a um heated conversation. Just go on back up to bed. Go on." She began shooing me back towards the stairs. Dazed, I obediently went back up to my room and collapsed on the bed. I wanted to think about what had just happened but my brain had other ideas. After a stressful week of cramming information, my sleep deprived brain decided that enough was enough. Before I knew it, I was falling into a deep sleep.

"Dawn? What are you doing?" A fairly tall woman with ivory skin, golden eyes flecked with silver, and luxurious purple hair asked, looking up. She was outside standing on top of a grassy hill, wearing a blue so deep it was almost black satin gown with tiny crystals all over it so it looked like she was wearing a peace of the night sky. A silver glow emanated from her body, almost as if she was radiating power. The sky was fading into twilight, staining it with colors. The woman was looking up at a tree, or rather, something in the tree. Another fairly tall women sat on one of the thicker branches, leaning on the trunk, legs hanging over the edge. She had tanned skin, dark brown eyes flecked with gold, and shining ebony hair. She wore a light blue chiffon gown with white tule draping off the waist and around the dress. Much like the other woman, she had a power radiating off of her, except that her's was gold. She looked down at the other woman and smiled. "Nothing much, Dusk." She replied. "Just watching the sky turn into twilight."

"I see."  Dawn slid off of the branch, landed softly next to Dusk and then turned to watch the sky again. Dusk watched her for a while before speaking again. "You know should really tell one of your guards when your going out. You nearly made Bashar have kittens." She said. Dawn gave an amused smile. "That would be quite a sight considering that Bashar is both a male and a wolf." "Indeed." Dusk agreed. What about Chano? Doesn't he want to know where you are Dusk? Dawn inquired tilting her head slightly. "I told him I was going out to find you." "Ah." They both stood in silence as they watched the sky grow darker and darker.

"Dusk?" "Yes Dawn?" "Is it wrong of me to wish I could die?" Dusk turned to Dawn, mildly surprised. "Why do you wish something like?" "I don't wish it all the time it's just. . . It never ends. All the fighting, and the praising, and the bloodshed- it never stops. It just keeps going on and on and on. We never get to rest. Sometimes, I just want it all to end- to stop worrying about anything- like normal people are able to do." "You know we are not normal people Dawn." Dusk said simply. "We are old- impossibly old. And you know that we can't just rest." Dawn sighed and nodded. "I know." "Dawn?" "Yes Dusk?" "I love you." "I love you too."

"Aira? Aira wake up!" I felt a strong jab at my cheek and jolt awake. "Wha-What?! I'm up!" I blink frantically and my eyesight cleared. Amethyst stood in front of me wearing a mostly blue dress, black pants, and ankle boots.

Dress she was wearing.

And pants.

"Why'd you poke me?" I demand sleepily, rubbing my eyes. "Because you wouldn't wake up!" "Oh. Ok good reason." Amethyst sighed and fidgeted with her bow. Dixie kept lending us clothes, but she only has weird frilly dresses, and since both Amethyst and I were to lazy to go clothes shopping, we were stuck with the dresses. "Come on Aria, get up! Dixie's making omelettes. And I want you to get out of the house. Seriously, you need to get some sunshine!" She tugged playfully at my sleeve. "Ok ok fine." I grumble and force myself out of bed. Amethyst smiled and bounced downstairs to eat. "Oh yeah, I set some clothes out for you in the bathroom!" She called over her shoulder. I felt a strong surge of affection for Amethyst as I began walking over to the bathroom but then suddenly stopped and frowned. I had had a weird dream last night. At least I think I did. My frown deepens as I try to remember what exactly the dream was about. But it wasn't any good. I'd already forgotten it.
