Chapter

I walked back to Dixie's in a silent fury. I expected that from her, I really did.  Aria is very clever in most situations, this happened to be one of them. I just don't understand. Does she think I'm too weak? Does she think I'm stupid? I really don't think so, we've known each other for years. She knows I'm a force to be reckoned with if I want to be.
I thought about this on my way back to Dixie's. When I opened the door, I saw her poke her head out of the lounge in confusion.
"Amethyst? I thought you were with Aria." She questioned me.
"I was. She tricked me into thinking I could go in the mine with her. She went in by herself while I was getting ready." I explained.
"I figured that's what she was doing." Dixie smiled at me.
"So did I... She's clever like that. I just don't understand why..."
"She wants to protect you," Dixie says immediately.
"From what?" I asked exasperated, sitting at the table.
Dixie walks around my chair and sits in her own across from me. "From the world. Everything really. Think about it Amethyst. You're all she has here. Don't you see it? She hasn't gotten close to anyone here. Unless you count Clay. But I don't think she's too fond of him. She stays close to you and keeps her distance from everyone else." Dixie chuckles a little. "She actually reminds me of my older sister. When she was alive, never getting to know anyone. It was always her and I against the world. She never let me get to close to men because she was scared if I married my husband would take me away from her. She never let me out of her sight in general. It annoyed me when I was your age. You never know what you've lost until it's gone. She protected me from everything, she died protecting me."
I was silent. I didn't know what to say.
"I'm sorry for your loss." I choked out.
"Oh, it's alright. Her spirits still around. I see her in my dreams sometimes, much like I'm sure Clay sees his long gone fiancé, Cyan." She dazed.
I thought about that for a while. I never knew any of this before now. I was never told. Even worse, I never asked.
"Don't you worry about it Amethyst. Actually, can you do me a favor?" She asked. I nodded.
"Of course."
She pulled a plate of something chocolate looking off the counter and handed it to me, "Hot fudge." She tells me. "Can you take this to Kai in the sweet shop?" I nod and take it without a word.

For once in my entire time here I wasn't interrupted once on my way to Kai's. Kai was a sweet kid. He was shy and bubbly. I had talked to him a few times and we were considered acquaintances. The bell on the door to the shop rang as I walked in. The sweet smell of Kai's masterpieces filled my nose.

"Afternoon Amethyst!" Kai called, balancing a tray of brownies on his palm.

"Hey Kai, I brought you some fudge from Dixie," I told him, placing the sweets on the counter.

"Give her my thanks." He smiled sweetly. "How have you been?"

"Well." I replied, deciding against telling him the whole fiasco. "You?" He smiled and spun in a circle.

"Oh Amethyst... This boy came into the shop yesterday..." He looked at me dazed.

"Do tell!" I grabbed him by the hands and sat him down at one of the tables.

"He must be new around, I've never seen him come in before. He had dark hair and hazel eyes. He was tan and had a nice build so he must do a lot of work outside, and you know I love a working man. He came in with a girl who must have been his sister, they looked very similar," He told me excitedly.

"What was his name?" I asked. He shrugged sheepishly. "You didn't get his name?" I blurted. He shook his head. "Come on Kai! You've got to be bolder! You can't just admire pretty boys from afar! Be on the prowl like a lion!" I growled to make my point. He giggled.

As I continued to make strange carnivorous noises, the bell rang signaling someone had entered the shop. We whipped our heads around to see a boy and a girl. I have to say, even as a bisexual mess, I don't get attracted to girls that easy. Sure, they're pretty, but I have more attraction to guys. However, this girl, was absolutely gorgeous.

Kai gripped my hand. I turned to him, "That's them!" He whisper-yelled.

Still in my daze, I pushed Kai off the chair, "Go get 'em, tiger." I then continued to eye the girl. She had the same pretty dark hair and eyes as her counterpart. She was just as muscular as her brother, and her skin was only a shade lighter. Her hair buzzed on one side and flipped and curled on the other.

Kai was talking and flirting with the boy, and I noticed the girl was looking straight at me. In a panic, I rushed over to Kai.  But with my luck, on my way to him, a force knocked me the other way. I yelped, and when I opened my eyes, none other than the pretty girl was on top of me.

"Well hello there." She greeted me, sitting up on her knees and pulling me with her. My voice broke.

"H-Hi. I'm Amethyst." I said with wide eyes.

"Julia." She took my hand and shook it. I felt my face go warm. "I saw you staring earlier, like what you see?" She winks.

"Yesverymuchso- I mean, uhm, I gotta run Dixie probably needs me back at the house. Nice meeting you! Bye Kai!" I rambled and Kai giggled as I ran I out. I have a hard time handling pretty girls...

But seriously, why do I have to fall for everyone I come in contact with?

I guess that's the bisexual curse...
