Chapter 3: Black and White
The clash of colors swirling in the fight against the knights and the abyss order made my head spin. The energy alone was enough to force my brain into a reboot. Dazed and confused I managed stand to my feet and shuffle over to the walls and away from the battle in attempt to not hurls whatever food still remained in my system from the nausea. A hand gently guided me from the small of my back, magic already pooling in my body and soothing my core. Their words keeping grounded to reality as they ushered me to safety. If only I had the strength to thank them.
"Hold the line." A voice cut through the clashing of metal and magic, "We cannot give an inch!"
I lifted my head in time to see a flash of green, red and icy blue, the brothers and Jean activating and combining their attacks. The elemental charge sending a large number of abyss mages into oblivion. But no matter how many they took down there always seemed to be two more in the place of the fallen. Smoke began pouring into my lungs, the wind whipped at my hair, the ice creeping into my skin as electricity buzzed through my head. This elemental magic outpour and its side affects began to seep it way into the city. In a great flash of light Venti fired an arrow into the main crowd of mages forcing them together as Diluc, Kenya and the traveler unleashed their elemental attacks into the cyclone. Jean rushed to flank the left side of the dying swirl as the traveler flanked to the right. Lisa with a glowing twirl released her electro lantern by the gate in attempt to prevent any mages from entering the walls. Amber who found higher ground rained hell fire on the mages who where attempting to scale the walls. Diluc and Kaeya took turns swiftly cutting down the remaining mages who got past Jean and the traveler. It was chaos, but from the looks of it, the mages seemed to be losing ground.
"They're winning!" A voice cheered, followed by more cheering from the citizens.
In all honesty I would've joined in their celebration if it weren't for the all black mage from earlier stepping up to the plate. Their all black attire omened nothing but trouble. Jean seemed to take notice and switched tactics on a dime.
"Fall back and condense at the gate!" She ordered.
Like a switch being flipped the knights obeyed and quickly rushed to regroup by the gates. The traveler, Lisa, and Jean cut down any and all remaining mages in their wake before rushing to the main group. From this angel I noticed that the grip on Jeans sword was turning her knuckles whiter than snow. The same could be said for every other knight at the new front. The midnight black mage hovered alone on the bridge, its magic omitting a repulsive energy. My stomach dropped at a sudden realization. The mage cackled as its magic pulled the shadows from every nook and cranny it could find. The darkness morphing and phasing into duplicates of the blacked mage, till the shadows resembled exact copies of its host. The same cackled echoed off each mage as they waved their staffs in the air in perfect sync pooling more shadow at the top.
"Get out of the way!" I screamed.
In a single wave of their wands a wall of pure darkness violently knocked the group off their feet, their forms soaring several feet back from their original position. Through the chaos of magic and impacts you could hear the desperate cries of the onlookers as their heroes slammed into the stone ground. Their symphony of groans contrasted with the maniacal laughter of the shadow mages. Jean, Kaeya, and Diluc where the first to get back on their feet as the traveler gathered Venti back up. Jeans Healing abilities quickly resolved most of the injuries from the knights surrounding her, though even she knew that it wouldn't last long with their new found enemy.
"On your feet everyone! We are the Knights of Favonious and we will not yield in the face of evil!" Jean shouted as she raised her sword in the air.
A hearty battle cry emitted from the group as they regain their position, while I on the other hand was forcefully yanked away.
Note: there's a reason why these chapters are shorter :) (gotta make room for the tuna XD)
