4 - You're Scaring Me
The sun set, but Tommy wasn't sleeping. At first he had assumed that Ranboo was joking about the whole therapist thing- Why would someone possibly want to keep him around? A few evil schemes ran through the boy's head, skeptical as the Ender Class basically dragged him through the forest.
Eventually, Ranboo had grown tired of waiting for Tommy, so he scooped the shouting boy up and teleported across the work, jumping off of a tree and landing gracefully infront of a large cave that was carved into the side of the mountain.
Tommy was dropped by the hybrid into a bush, protesting while both chuckled. Tommy got out, shaking leaves and twigs off of himself, before admiring the cave. It was professionally decorated, lantern light bouncing off of the smooth stone and providing light to the furniture. It was set up like a real therapy session would be- Did he build this for me?
"Here we are," Ranboo gestured to a cushioned seat. "Take a seat if you want, make yourself at home."
Tommy hesitantly sat down in the seat, sinking into it a little. He kept admiring the surroundings, finding amazing things in the smallest nooks.
Potions were spread out, too, with a small paper tied to the table labeling them jokingly as 'Unsee Juice - (It's actually regeneration and invisibility, dont tell wil)'
Tommy giggled a little at the joke, observing the built-in aquarium in the back, illuminated with glowstone from the bottom.
"Did you build all of this by yourself?" Tommy asked, turning his gaze back to Ranboo.
"I did," The Ender Class said proudly. "Do you... like it?"
"Like it?" Tommy echoed. "Its so cool! You should build things more often! I bet everyone else would love these types of things."
"You really think so?" Ranboo asked nervously, fidgeting with a loose rock on the floor.
"I know so." Tommy smiled.
"How do you do it?" Ranboo asked suddenly, his tone different. It scared Tommy a little, such a quick expression change.
"Do what?" His curiosity spoke for him, fearing what Ranboo would say next.
"How do you change so fast? I just found you recovering your wings from puddles of your own blood, insults directed at yourself written with it on the walls, and now you're cheery and happy, as if none of that just happened."
Tommy didnt respond, staying quiet. He looked at the ground, suddenly fascinated by the floor. He shrugged with a small sigh, knowing full and well the answer. He contemplated telling Ranboo the truth, wondering if the Ender Class could possibly help him. No, No, he decided immediately. He wasn't going to burden him. Shaking his head, he sighed again. "I can't tell you that yet."
"It's a mask, right?" Ranboo asked, "Something you might've... gotten used to putting on."
Tommy opened his mouth to talk, but nothing came. Just, talk, dammit.
You're too weak to even say anything. What possible use could there be for you?
Tommy closed his eyes tightly, opening them a moment later to filter the voice from his thoughts. "I... Yeah, I guess it is."
Ranboo hummed, looking at his hands. To be honest, Ranboo knew nothing about therapy. He was simply going off of the normal, important questions and the soothing tone he knew therapists should use. He thinks.
"Um, I won't make you say anything you don't want to. I'm sorry if I seem like that- I just need to know as much as I can so I can, uh, help." Ranboo hesitantly reached a hand towards Tommy, patting the boy's shoulder. He knew that calmed himself down, but he wasn't sure if it'd work the same for Tommy.
"I understand," Tommy said quietly, still looking at the ground. Ranboo had a feeling that what he would say next isn't what Tommy would expect, but he withdrew his hand and braced himself anyways.
"What started this?" Ranboo asked, and that sent a spear through Tommy's heart so big that it tore it in two. Tommy's eyes widened and his breathing quickened slightly, and immediately Ranboo regretted saying anything. "No, no, no, nevermind, scratch that, I didn't mean to- oh no- Come here, Tommy." Ranboo panicked, opening his arms just as he had done in the cave.
Tommy didn't need to be told twice, darting over to the Ender Class and hugging him tightly. He breathed in the other's scent, enjoying the smell of frosted pine needles. It calmed him a bit, but he still cried nonetheless. Ranboo's arms closed around him, tightly hugging the boy.
"Sorry, sorry, sorry, shh, it's okay, I'm here." Ranboo apologized, fear spreading through his body like a puff of smoke, expanding. He didn't hurt Tommy- I mean- He didn't do something, right? Oh no, he did something wrong.
"Sorry." Tommy calmed down, pulling back and rubbing his eyes as if he had just woken up. Ranboo noticed how tired the boy looked, deciding to ask one last question for the night.
"Did you tear your wings off?" He felt like he knew this answer. Tommy raised his head, meeting the Ender Class' eyes, and nodding sadly. Ranboo felt his heart wrench in his chest, this poor boy.
Tommy nuzzled into Ranboo again, and the hybrid began to lightly stroke the boy's back and back wings, unaware of the effect this had on Tommy. The boy passed out quickly, Ranboo only noticing after a few minutes. The Ender Hybrid froze, unsure of what to do. When he tried to pick Tommy up and move the boy to somewhere more comfortable or change the boy's position, the Avian Class simply huffed and nuzzled back onto Ranboo's lap.
Tommy seemed to be flexible, coiling up and using his wings as a small blanket that only covered his shoulders.
Ranboo couldnt help but wonder about the Avian's past, trying to silence his mind, but unable to. He hummed the tune of Your New Boyfriend while he was lost in thought, noticing Tommy smile softly. Aw, he must care about Wilbur. Or he just really likes the song, but I bet he cares so much about Wilbur. The poor kid has proven he'd do anything for both Tubbo and Wilbur, hopefully he can use that someday instead of taking his lives. He may have infinite, but there will always be consequences.
Ranboo sighed, watching the moon meet the highest point in the sky.
"Tomorrow is another day."
