21 - Caught In A Bad Dream
ok but i just found out 'bicolored' is a real word, i thought i made it up
"Holy shit, you guys weren't lying." Ranboo didn't even try to censor himself, amazed by the winged boy infront of them. "You were dead."
"I am dead." Tommy scoffed, "You guys can just see me."
"It's a lil funny, y'know, how it works when you're dead." Wilbur said curiously, grinning wider than he probably should've been. He was a phantom, so he didn't exactly know what it was like to be dead, but he did know some things.
"That's... weird." Ranboo gave Wilbur a side glance. He was quick to return his focus onto Tommy, though, too awe-stricken to notice the phantom origin's glare. "I can't believe it, though." He ran his hand over Tommy's backwing again, just to be sure it was still there.
Ranboo was unaware of the effect it had on the boy, only making an 'awww' sound when Tommy made a purring sound. Yeah, he's done this before to the boy, but he never realized it was from his wings directly, he thought it just soothed the boy who was tired at the time. Wilbur seemed to set his jaw, not liking the way now everyone could just make Tommy purr like that.
"Alright, big guy. Let's go." Ranboo flinched when Jack spoke, forgetting the Blaze Origin was still there. He reached out to the phantom, taking his shoulder and tugging him gently. Wilbur rolled his eyes, but he went with Jack. He was still slightly twitchy, Ranboo noticed, his excitement only just now dying down.
"So," Tubbo broke the silence that fell over the room. "What now?"
"Oh, I don't know. Kinda tired, but that's all because of tall ass over here." Tommy snickered at Ranboo, and ender class giving a smile at the familiar retort. It was so hard to believe this was the boy he had watched jump to his death, covered in his own blood.
"We could expand my bee room!" Tubbo's eyes shone with excitement. Ranboo perked up, knowing how much the boy loved bees. Tommy did aswell, his wings tucking behind his back.
"Well then, what're we waiting for?" Tommy spoke before Ranboo could, "Let's go expand that room, huh?"
Ranboo playfully glared strongly at Tommy, knowing the boy's intentions of speaking first. The dead Avian stuck his tongue out at the Ender, before both ran after Tubbo.
They jumped off of the ladder (Ranboo teleported, and Tubbo rode on Tommy's back again) and Tubbo led them under a large, thorn-bathed bush. There was a well-hidden and well-woven trapdoor at the dead center, which the shortest of the group opened.
Tommy crawled through it, awe filling his eyes. It opened up to a giant room, the walls stretching for so long. That wasnt the best part, though. It was what was inside of the room.
Long, healthily green grass grew from the ground, and tall, thick trees stood erect, nearly touching the ceiling. Thin vines wrapped around the trees, complimented by the flowers littering them and the ground. Three or four beehives were in separate trees, far from each other. A few bees were visible, buzzing peacefully with wide, adorable eyes.
"Woah, Tubbo! You made this?" Tommy turned to Tubbo and Ranboo. "This is so cool!"
"We did!" Tubbo smiled. "Theres also a corner dedicated to, uh, to you."
"Really?" Tommy asked, his wings flapping softly. Tubbo hummed, nodding, taking Tommy's hand and pulling him alongside him. The two ran through the artificial forest, constantly jumping from twisting path to twisting path.
Tommy saw a section covered with plants that looked kind of like birds (Bird Of Paradise) and large walls of undergrowth to shield the area from outsiders.
There were tons of butterflies in the room, which was larger than it looked from the outside. It was dug out from the inside, so there was another large room.
"Damn it, why is everyone here so good at building?" Tommy turned to Tubbo and Ranboo, his wings twitching with joy. A large smile was on his face as he quietly whispered, "you did this for me?"
"We did." Ranboo smiled, tilting his head. "So, I take it you like it?"
"Like it?" Tommy put a hand to his chest in fake offense, turning back around to take in the scenery once more. "I love it."
"Now hurry up and get your butts over here!" Tubbo was rummaging seemingly through the bush, pulling out various materials to expand the rooms with. Ranboo and Tommy chuckled, helping Tubbo.
-A few minutes (20) later-
Tommy was moving alot slower than the other two, and Ranboo was the first to notice it. He saw how the boy tripped over himself, nearly falling asleep every ten or twenty seconds. The Ender class rolled his eyes, going back to the bush of alliums he was clipping for a few moments.
"Hey, Tubs," Ranboo spoke quietly, snatching the attention of the boy. The Shulk hummed, meeting his eyes. "I think Tommy needs to rest, I'll go bring him to your room."
Tubbo looked over at Tommy, who had stopped doing the job he was meant to do, and had resorted to picking at flowers. He wasn't picking them from the ground, it was more of kneeling or sitting infront of them and petting or patting them. His wings moved as if in slow-motion, and it was clear the boy was tired, no matter how he tried to hide it.
Ranboo casually strolled over to Tommy, and then he realized the boy was mumbling something. Nearing closer, trying to stay quiet, he strained himself to listen. At first, he thought the boy was thoughtlessly rambling (which was technically true), but he soon realized he was saying each thought that came to him, probably subconsciously.
"...'Mportant to me, means'lot. Wonder how they'd react if I did it again. I'd be double-dead, mhm. Wonder what it's like. Hope they don' know." Tommy mumbled, continuing his thought process aloud and only freezing when Ranboo stepped on a stick behind him.
"Tommy?" Ranboo asked softly. "What..?"
Tommy looked back with wide eyes, locking gazes with Ranboo. They stared at each other in pure silence for a few moments, The only sound being the buzzing of bees around them, but it seemed distant. Muffled, even. Both were too lost in their thoughts and panic to react.
Until Tommy did.
He bolted instantly, tucking and angling his wings so that when he flapped them, he could jump and glide quickly forwards. Ranboo shouted a 'hey!', instantly running after the avian. He might've had longer legs, but he was no match against the boys wings.
"TOMMY, GET BACK HERE!" Ranboo shouted, "I JUST WANNA TALK!"
Tommy was quick to climb up the ladder, almost like a raccoon or a squirrel. Ranboo was slower, getting near the top when he just teleported out, turning in a full circle quickly to find the running spirit.
He didn't need to spend a long time looking, though. The boy's white and red shirt stuck out plain as day, aswell as the three sets of wings. He was running straight to the mine, when he remembered something Wilbur had told him.
'whatever you do, stay out of the mines during sun-down.'
Sure enough, it was sundown.
And Tommy was heading towards the mines.
"TOMMY NO!" Ranboo teleported infront of the boy, grabbing his shirt just before he could run past him. Tommy let out a cry of protest, still kicking and trying to escape.
"LET ME GO YOU TALL MOTHERFUCKER! YOU FUCKING TREE!" Tommy shrieked.
"DONT YOU DARE!" Ranboo struggled with the Avian. "I WILL NOT LET YOU DO THIS AGAIN!"
"IM NOT GOING TO!"
"THEN WHAT WILL YOU DO?"
"FUCKING KILL YOU, THEN MYSELF, I WILL!" Tommy threatened. Ranboo could tell it was an empty threat, continuing to drag the boy with him.
"Ranboo?" Phil asked from a distance. "Everything alright out here?"
"YEP!" Ranboo and Tommy both called to Phil, but Tommy knew he couldn't hear him.
Phil hummed, eyeing Ranboo for a few moments, but withdrew into his house again.
Footsteps startled the Avian and the Ender origins, both flinching back. Tommy was still held firmly by Ranboo, his wings betraying how pissed off, scared, and sad he felt.
Tubbo burst through the undergrowth, doubling over to catch his breath. "What- You two just ran off- what happened?"
Ranboo exchanged glances with Tommy, the boy's eyes begging him. Begging him no. Begging him not to panic his friend.
But Ranboo had listened to that already. It didn't work.
Ranboo steadily met Tubbo's eyes, just as Jack and Wilbur came out of the mines. Schlatt and Phil met the two, the Elytrian and the Arachnid both laughing for reasons unknown to Tommy and Ranboo.
"I think it's best we discuss in private."
