17 - Gripping My Bones
While Phil and Wilbur engaged in an argument, Tubbo snuck through the forest. He crept up behind Tommy, tapping the avian lightly. Tommy blinked for a moment, snapping out of his sleepy trance, turning his head to see Tubbo.
The Shulker Class gestured for Tommy to follow him, and just then Tommy seemed to realize the situation around him. Quietly scooting into the forest beside Tubbo, the ghost stood up and dusted himself off, ready to go to wherever Tubbo wanted him.
Unease crept through him when he realized what trail they were on. His breath hitched when he saw a cliff edge, a flower forest beneath it. Tubbo tried to pull him away, bringing him to a different place, but he still ran to the edge.
"Tommy dont jump again pl- TOMM- Oh, you float. Right." Tubbo started to shout in fear, but soon remembered Tommy's chosen origin.
The Avian boy glided downwards, landing softly on his feet just beside a fairly recent dirt mound. Tubbo made his way down the side of the cliff, eyes darkening when he saw what Tommy kneeled beside.
"In memory of TommyInnit," Tommy read aloud. A wooden sign was placed behind the mound, and the Avian didn't need to try and guess what it was. "So, this is my grave, huh?"
"Yeah," Tubbo bit his lip. Going and sitting next to Tommy, he continued. "But hey, you're here now, that's what matters, right?"
"I guess." Tommy shrugged.
Everything was silent for a few moments, Tubbo almost afraid of what would come next. Though, once you read, you'll fear aswell. Maybe.
"I want to see it." Tommy stated, stroking the dirt lightly.
"What!? No, you cant!" Tubbo snatched Tommy's hand away.
"Why not?" Tommy looked Tubbo in the eyes. "Who's it gonna disrespect?"
Tubbo stayed silent at that, simply turning his gaze to the grave. "What if someone sees it's been dug up and blames it on me?"
"I'll just throw a rock at them," Tommy smirked. "I've killed to protect once, and I'll do it again!"
"Okay, sure, but that was not a fun sight." Tubbo chuckled, still slightly disturbed.
"Oh, and you think it was a fun feeling?" Tommy laughed. "Alright, maybe it was a little scary, but I did it to protect Wil."
Tubbo hummed. Quickly he lost himself in his own thoughts, not noticing that Tommy was already scooping dirt an revealing the wooden casing beneath. Only when he started tapping the wood did Tubbo realize.
"Tommy!" He gasped, pushing the boy away and frantically covering the hole up. "Stop that! What if someone sees?"
"You worry too much. It's my body, after all." Tommy shrugged, dismissively waving a headwing.
"Tommy- I know it's your body, but you cant just go digging up your own grave! Just leave it be, okay? You do not want to see what you look like dead." Tubbo shuddered at the thought.
"But I do!" Tommy stood up, along with Tubbo. "I bet I look all cool and shit."
"Nope, the opposite," Tubbo winced.
"Hot?" Tommy asked, immediately widening his eyes and backtracking. "Wha- Thats the opposite of cool! That's why i- oh boy."
Tubbo smiled, biting back laughter. He grabbed Tommy's arm, dragging the protesting boy away from his grave. Just as he was about to drag him up the side of the cliff, he vanished.
"What?" Tubbo asked, fear striking him. He was just here. "Tommy? Where'd you go?"
Running down the cliff side again, he tried to brace himself for the worst. When that only made him panic more, he darted over to the boy's grave. "Tomm- OI!"
The Avian was stuck in the ground, struggling free. He was laughing, digging his palms into the dirt to push himself out. It was almost like he had been lagged into the ground, the dirt showed no signs of being dug.
"What the-," Tubbo started, grabbing Tommy's hand and pulling him out. The Avian immediately fell again, laughing harder.
"You should have seen your face!" He wheezed. "Oh my god- You were so scared!"
"The hell did you do!?" Tubbo asked, furrowing his brow.
"I went invisible, I'm dead, bitch!" Tommy laughed again, standing up and stretching his wings.
"What the hell," Tubbo chuckled under his breath. "Now come on, I wanted to lead you away from the angry mothers, and I can bet you they're about to come down here!"
"You're so clingy, Tubbo, fine." Tommy rolled his eyes, letting Tubbo bring him to wherever he wanted to bring the boy.
~5 minutes later~
"Nope, dont like this." Tommy gulped, the familiar cave mouth stretched wide open, swallowing him as Tubbo pushed him inside.
"Just dont go left and you wont see anything," Tubbo pushed the boy to the right, where the cave forked.
"No, no, let's go left." Tommy easily brushed past the older, wincing at the mass amount of red staining the cave.
"But isnt the right cleaner-?" Tubbo questioned, following the Avian that navigated the cave well.
"No, it's worse." Another voice sounded. Tubbo and Tommy whipped around to the one and only Blaze class of the server. Slightly bent flaming rods circled him, and his eyes glowed with a natural fire.
"Jack?" Tommy breathed. "Oh no, Tubbo, you were cau- oh god. Make up a story, quick!"
Tubbo was about to open his mouth when Jack spoke again. "No, no need. I can see Tommy. I'm literally from Hell, or have you forgotten?"
Tommy stared in disbelief, eyes locked with Jack's. His wings were frozen too, and the boy overall looked like a deer in headlights. Or, a dead Avian in blaze rod light. Is that how you- nevermind.
"What are you trying to say about me, huh?" Tommy laughed weakly, still terrified.
"I can see spirits, dumbass." Jack tilted his head, a smirk on his face.
"Oh! Tommy, he can see you!" Tubbo seemed to unfreeze first, his mind not at all processing the events and the conversation that had just occurred.
"That's what we- Why are you here?" Tommy's wings shivered, becoming animated before the boy did.
"Because," Jack spread his arms. "I want to help."
