Chapter three| The Two Females

I always wonder if there was a real darkness. When the night fall there's the lights everywhere. when you are far from the lights there are the stars and the moon. Even when the lights are shut and the curtains are pulled together there's a slight shadows of light peeking through the holes. I always wonder if there's a real darkness other than the darkness of human's minds. Darkness isn't a place that people live in. Darkness is the one that lives on others. And that's what I feel right now.

Mason Easton took me to a bar in the middle of the day because he thought that's what I would need after listening to him. The bar was simply empty except the bartender and a bunch of people here and there. When we got out of the car, I stared at him in an unbelievable way. But followed him anyway. when we get in and get seated, he pulled a small plastic bag that contains white powder inside of it.

" Do you know where did I find this? Actually many of it " he asked me as he took a sip from his large glass of beer that he just ordered.

" How would I know? " I have no clue what even it was.

" We found them in your dorm room" He told me as he stared at me from the corner of his eyes. I was so confused that I started to think that he is speaking gapprish!

" what are them? " I managed to say.

" Drugs" it came as a whisper, I barely could make the word.

" what? " I asked unbelieving him. What the heck is he talking about?

" you heard me!"

My hands started shaking, I pulled them into fists so the shake wouldn't be noticed. My eyes were staring at nothing. My mind was somewhere else. Would I be arrested now? What would happen if my Family knows? OMG! What would happen to me?

" Calm down. I'm not finished yet " Mason said as he pulled a string of hair behind my ear. I tried to calm my breathing which was short and fast.

" Go on " I said as I breathe in and out, trying to ease the shock.

" A letter was received by the administration of UAB saying that there were drugs being traded between the students on the campus. So my brother called me to check on the information that is given. Probably for the reputation of the university, he didn't want to call the police" He paused, took a large sip of his beer and then stared at me as he completed.

" Three weeks later, I found a load of drugs hidden in your room. I would have sent you to the administration right away, and you would have been expelled.. but you were lucky! A miracle happened!"

The idea of being expelled alone made me shudder! All that happens and I have no clue. How I lived three months in that damn room without noticing anything. How stupid can I be!

" What was the miracle?" I asked sounding curious. But my breath was caught.

" Guess what? When I was about to leave I heard faint sounds so I hided in your wardrobe! Probably two female got in and started shuffling around the place. They were talking in a harsh tone. I discovered by then that the drugs don't belong to you. I was mistaken about you!" he shocks his head as he said the last part.

Wow! Seems like the first time my life stands on my side. My life was about to be ruined for something I didn't do. But Boom a miracle appeared and saved me. Thank God!

" you know? I would have ruined your future because of my ruthless, careless and clumsiness. I'm just so thankful for that miracle! I can't stand doing it over and over." He muttered holding his head down by both his hands. When he looked at me, there was a mix of emotions on his eyes. I can see the very regret on them.

I said nothing. The words were still running on my head. Drugs were found in my room. Two females get in. my life was on the edge of being ruined. Questions were running on my mind, too.

" If you already know that the drugs don't belong to me, why did you came last night?" I asked the first question that was on my mind from the very beginning.

" I wanted to make sure that you don't do drugs." He said as a matter of fact. I rolled my eyes. For god's sake, who would do that?

" I know. I know. It just works sometimes" He told me. but deep inside me, I knew he was lying. He even blows unneeded attention to me with his fake cop clothes.

" Ok. My second question" I ignored the first. which is clearly unanswered on my mind.

" Go head, switching the roles, are we?" he interrupted sarcastically. I ignored him.

" let's say that I'm the kind of person who notices whenever there's a slight change in my properties, how didn't I notice the drugs hidden in my room?" I asked because frankly, the idea of having hidden drugs in my room is killing me.

" Well, that's for you to discover." He shrugged as if it was no big deal.

" How would I know, if you had already taken all of them?" I assumed

" Who said I took them? In fact, I didn't touch any, except this one!" He referred to the one that he showed me.

" what are the drugs still doing in my room? You should have get rid of them!!" I said starting to freak out. How can I stand living in a room that will one day ruin my life?

" well, I'm not done talking " he said calmly. I said nothing so he can complete whatever he is saying.

" We need to track them all. It's not for the university only. It's for the whole state. There's this gang that was running in the state for four years now. In fact, I was fired from my job because of them! The ones who were hiding the drugs in your room seems to be members of that gang." He was so serious by the time he finished. His eyes were a darker shade of green by now. I dared myself to ask the question that was struggling to come out. Because somehow my mind was shouting to me the answer.

He ordered another glass of beer as he turned to look at me.

" you sure you don't want any?" he asked me.

" I told you. I don't drink." I reminded him again.

" Alright!" We sat in silence for what seems like forever. He was drinking his beer. I was diving on my own thoughts. Too much information, but it seems like there's more.

" You're probably wondering what has this all to do with you." He glanced at me and said it as a matter of fact. Oh, and he is not the type who would ask for it.

" what's on your mind?" I asked.

" Isn't it obvious? I'm going to track the whole gang, arrest them all and have my job back with your help!" I was right, he hates to ask for help! He sounded kind of irritated when he said it.

" So you're using me." I know I wouldn't be able to say no. but I hate to be used. And it's way too dangerous.

" Believe me if there was another option I would go for it, but there's none. The police were trying to track them for four years! It's out of the book to even let you know this information." The verse out of the book came as a whisper and I think he meant illegal by it. He is probably seeing the hope on me." Besides, you proved yourself early this morning" He winks. so that game was nothing but a test of performance.

" I can't give you an answer that fast, you know"

" No, I don't! All I know is that I need that answer right now." Oh no, he is so demanding.

After what seems like entirely,  I accepted helping him. Even though, I don't know what I'm getting myself into. There's not a slight awareness of it. I just wish it won't make things worse.

" But, I'm warning you. I'm useless! and I may get you into troubles" I warned him holding his gaze so he knows thak I'm serious.

" It's enough for me that you passed the test." He chuckled.

" Huh? You mean that stupid game was the test?" I knew it. that game wasn't more than a test.

" Yeah! It's all about acting and you did well. You even cleaned the mess you did" He was now smirking. And I was irritated. I took the small black memory from my jeans pocket and throw it at him. He caught it easily.

" I needed these informations!" he said as he put the memory into his jeans pocket. He doesn't seem to know how to say thank you, either.

" Anyway, who was the two female?" I was curious, I meant to ask the question at the beginning but got interrupted. He shuffled in his seat uncomfortably. But then stayed still and stared directly at my eyes.

" Who has access to your room?" Anyone can steal the master key and open any door he/she wants. but by the way he said it, he meant specific people.

" Don't say" there are two people only on my mind. Two females. Two and only. It can't be.

" Yeah, they are the ones. Your best friends are the two females!"
