•Chapter six•
I woke up at 5:30 to get dressed before going to find Eugene's room, which was apparently on the third floor.
The house was so quiet that I could here the sprinklers from next doors garden which is three blocks away.
The stairs were my morning work out and was exhausted when I finally reached the top of the stairs of satan.
A frown at the closed doors along the hallway. God damn, which one could be his?
I started with the first door of the five. It was a spare, the second was a spare too.
I reached door number 3 and opened it. The room had too much possessions to be a spare, but no one was in there.
My eye caught the photograph sitting on the bedside table. It was a photo of Eugene, Hunter and a girl, blonde curly hair, same height as Hunter.
Was she apart of the family? Where is she now? A million questions wanted to escape my mouth but a voice from the door interrupted my thoughts.
"Your not supposed to be in this room, Edythe." A low voice came from the door. I jumped and turned around to see Eugene standing there arms crossed.
"Ah, sorry. I didn't know." I say quietly. "I was looking for your room."
"My room is the last door." He answered.
"Edythe, I'm going to say this in the nicest way possible... please get out."
"Yes, right. Sorry." I say quickly walking out of the room.
Eugene shut the door behind me. "Never go in there again." His eyes were cold and hurt, nearly watered with tears.
"Yes, sir."
"I have my coffee at ten o'clock every morning, I'll be in my study." He says then departed.
My jaw dropped. "Where's your study!"
*
From what I can remember, I made Eugene a Chocolate Latte. The coffee Machine in the huge kitchen was challenged with many buttons.
After finally succeeding in making a coffee that was perfectly made, I still had to get past the stairs.
Hunter happily skipped his way down holding nothing but his own weight.
He takes one look at me holding the coffee then backs away slowly.
"Na, uh. Don't you spill that on me too." He says pointing at the coffee in my hands.
I rolled my eyes.
Hunter looks between me and the flight of stairs. "Tough job."
I placed the coffee on the bench so it didn't burn my hands. "Yeah, and its only my second day."
"Your doing great, usually mum turns girls away as soon as they reach the door, but somehow, you got through."
"Sometimes I wish I didn't." I mumble.
"Look, Eugene is controlled by our mother, he has no choice but to live this life, he was home schooled, that's why he doesn't get along with many people. He didn't get normal life. Neither will I." Hunter speaks.
"I know he doesn't want my pity, but, he's human, he has choices."
"This business is his life. Mum made it that way. She's already setting him up with blind dates for marriage."
My eyes widened. "Marriage? He's only, like, twenty!"
"Tell that to my mother." Hunter grumbles.
"I wish I could help but I don't see how."
"You will, you already are. I think you will change him, Edythe. Soon he will see that you've brought a fire to his world that was cold."
Hunters words lingered in the air. He was certainly intelligent for a ten year old. I made my way up the stairs hoping, praying to god of the wilderness people that I shall not trip.
When I found the door of the office open, I made a payer that the liquid in this cup will stay in the cup.
I silently placed it beside him and mentally did a happy dance that I made it without spilling it.
He didn't look up from what he was typing. My eyes scanned over it for a second before I left the room. That is so much work for a boy.
My mind travels back to the image in the room. Who was that girl.
What was it about her that made him break?
*
"Edythe!"
"Coming. Just hold on."
"But I need toilet paper!" Hunter yells from the bathroom.
"One second!" I shout back trying my hardest to clean the floor that had spilt EVERYWHERE.
"Oh my god..." I mutter as I try and mop the floor, instead making a puddle for Olaf the snowman.
"EDYTHE!"
"AHHH WHAT ARE YOU DYING?" I yell back.
"No I just need toilet paper!"
"Right. Forgot." I dropped the mop and looked around.
"Where do I find toilet paper?"
"I don't know!" Hunter yells.
"Than how am I supposed to give it to you?" I shout back.
"There's a cool place called the shops!" Hunter replied.
I let out an annoyed moan. "Can't you just use a leaf for something?"
"Ew, what is wrong with you?"
I raise my eyebrows. "Okay..."
How in hell did I manage to get here.
Eugene went 'out.'
flour is all over me and on the floor.
And Hunter needs a butt blanket.
Don't ask how I got here. The wilderness people are not in my favour either.
"Fine, I'll be back in five."
"I have to sit here for five minutes?" Hunter questions.
"It's either toilet paper or a leaf. Your choice." I say putting my jumper on over my flour covered top.
"Toilet paper." I heard a mumble from the bathroom.
I took my hair tie out and shakes the flour out of my hair. I wiped my face with a damp cloth, then I practically ran to the shops around the corner.
I got to the store and power walked to the cleaning section. I don't bother reading the brand, I just grabbed anything that looked like toilet paper then headed straight to the counter.
The lady was surprised to see a girl with flour still in her hair and on her leggings but didn't question it.
I ran out the door after I paid and bumped into someone that was walking into the store. I stumbled back and the person grabbed my wrist so I was balanced.
"Eugene?" I say looking up at his irritated face.
At first I thought he was pissed at me but then I saw the bleached blonde head girl next to him and it clicked.
He was on a blind date. Like hunter said.
"OH is this your sister?" The blonde asks.
"No." Eugene says shaking the blonde of his arm.
"This is my girlfriend, Edythe Prior."
What.
Did I just hear that right?
My glare could kill as just looks at me and shrugs.
"What. But. us?" The blonde was already breaking down in tears from a guy she just met.
"My mother set us up. Sorry, but I can't pretend anymore."
"You asshole!" She screams as she turns on her heel and walks off.
I couldn't blame her for calling him that.
"She's right about one thing." I say aloud, frowning at him.
"And that is?"
"You're an asshole."
He glares at me then he scans over my body.
"What in merlins beard happened to you?"
That's when my eyes widened. Hunter was still on the potty!
"Long story short, hunter needs toilet paper and an explosive flour bomb went off in the kitchen." I explain quickly, pushing past him.
"What? Did you mean you left hunter in the house alone?" He says frowning.
"-On the toilet; if we are being exact." I say scrunching up my nose.
"There's flour in your hair."
"Tell me something I don't know!" I scowl.
"Your hot with flour in your hair."
My eyes glared into his amused ones. I hit him on the shoulder.
"I don't know you were the touchy type." He says teasingly.
"What!" I exclaimed. "I am not."
"But you touched me. I was just sexually assaulted." He says he pats his shoulder playfully.
"It's not good to make jokes about that." I point out.
"And you want to know what else that isn't good?" Eugene says coming closer.
His brown eyes looked straight into mine. Why is he all playful and happy today? This is the first time I've seen this side to him.
"What?" I say but instead it came out in a whisper.
"Leaving my brother sitting in the piss chamber."
