•Chapter four•
Dear Monday
I want to break up.
I'm seeing Tuesday
And thinking about Friday.
And if you had a face
I would slap it.
Me, my eighteen year old self, had to see Amy before I am needed to sweep the clean house at 11pm.
I ran into my cafe that I no longer work at and see Amy at the counter flirting with some guy.
"I need a coffee. Now." I say desperately, pushing in front of the guy.
"Customers before friends." she teases.
"And what if I told you that a girl like myself got hired by a millionaire to be his personal assistant?"
Amy's face was priceless. She wanted to pull my arm but the counter was in the way so she leaned in my face.
"What the f-"
"Language." I hiss at her.
"Hey I want my order!" The guy says short-tempered.
"Hey, my best friend here just got a job working for a hot billionaire, so you can just wait your story telling turn, alright David Hasselhoff?." Amy shot dagger eyes at him.
"Did you just-"
"Can you stop being an interrupting cow in my conversation?" Amy hisses.
I hid a laugh as the guy put his and up in defence.
"I can't believe it. You ended up working for a millionaire. What are the chances? Does hottie number one work with him too?"
"The blonde kid called Sebastian works with him, yes." I grin.
"Wow. That's- I can't even. My mind will explode if I think about it too much." Amy says making an explosive gesture.
She leans back on the counter and smirks. "The way to a mans heart is not through sex or puberty but merely the ability to trip ass over tit with a mug full of coffee in your hands."
"You watch Bridget jones baby way to many times." I scowl at her.
"I don't need to. You are the Bridget jones of this town." Amy laughs.
"Ha. Ha." Rolling my eyes I glance back at the clock. "Oh my god! Is that the time?"
"No it's a handburger, take a bite." Amy says sarcastically.
I scowl at her again. "I start soon!"
"Have fun." She winks.
I had the urge to hold up the finger but I decided against it and not ruin her fun. I turn to walk out and pass the guy still glaring at us, waiting to order. I felt a little bad for him.
I counted down the minutes and got to the house just in time. I raced to the front door right on eleven o'clock and pressed the doorbell that I discovered yesterday.
The door opened to see Eugene. He was dressed in a grey shirt and jeans, a bit casual from when I saw him last.
"You're three seconds late."
"Ah, you were actually walking to the door in those three seconds." I shot back already annoyed.
"Touché." He let me inside as I still had the urge to smile at the house. It was just so big and so clean.
"I'm assuming Seb showed you the house yesterday?" He asks.
"Yes he did." I replied to his hard tone.
"Good. First thing, I need to pick up a few things for lunch, I need you to watch Hunter."
"New name, new person, I'm guessing that's your brother?" I say. He didn't respond, grabbing the keys off the bench and going back out the house.
"Okay, I'll just find his room by myself." I say as the door slams. "And get lost then probably die if I don't find any crumbs on the floor."
"Why would you eat crumbs off the floor?" A voice asks.
I turn around and see a small boy, looking a lot like Eugene. His brown hair was the exact same colour, his eyes were a little lighter but it wasn't a big difference. He had a Eagles shirt on with a cricket bat in his hands. I'm guessing his a fan on football and cricket. His face was confused, he had his small nose scrunched up in disgust.
"I was kidding." I say laughing a little.
"Who are you? Where's Eugene?" He questioned me.
"I'm Edythe, his...helper." I say cringing.
"Oh. And where is he?"
"Shops, getting lunch." I tell him.
"Do you play cricket?" He asks me.
"Um, not really." I shake my head.
His face falls. "Oh. Do you play football."
"Ah, no, but I can kick okay." I shrugged smiling.
"That's good because Eugene hardly ever plays with me." He says grinning.
How can no one play with him? He is adorable.
"He takes me out for ice creams though." Hunter adds.
"That's nice." I smile awkwardly. "Where's the back yard again?"
We kicked the ball around for what seemed about an hour or two. I was sweating, the heat was burning on my skin as I ran to get the ball. Did I mention the yard is massive too?
"Your actually okay at it!" Hunter shouted when I kicked the ball to him. I laugh. "Thanks!"
I say the sliding door open and Eugene steps out with three plates balancing in his hands, each was a plate of chips.
I frown. It couldn't have taken two hours to get chips.
Plus the shops are not far away.
"Chips!" Hunter shouts running at Eugene with full speed.
"Slow down buddy." I saw the first little smile at the corner of his mouth as he gives the plate to Hunter.
"Yours." He says passing me a plate.
"Thanks." I say taking it.
"You were gone for a long time."
"I couldn't decide what to get for lunch."
"Your a bad lair." I point out. He didn't respond, actually he was ignoring me.
"Let's just say, sweetheart, I don't have a curfew." He says glancing at me before he goes inside.
I poke my tongue out in his direction. Hopefully he didn't see it.
"Wait, so your not here to date my brother?"
"What?" I say shocked at Hunters words. "Of course not. That would never happen."
"That's a first."
Hunter left the ball outside and we went back in the house. Eugene was taking on the phone leaning on the kitchen bench.
"Fine. I'll make a reservation. Okay, later." He hung up.
I give a curious look his way as he keeps a blank expression.
"Sebastian said they are opening a new restaurant down town, they want me to give them the final say. I need you to come with me." He says putting the phone down and eating a chip.
"Why do I need to go? I can stay here and look after Hunter if that's easier." I suggest.
"Mum will be home to look after him. Plus I need another persons opinion." He says still with a blank expression.
Can't the guy just at least smile, frown, something? so I know he isn't a mutant?
"Okay." I say mocking his blank expression, finishing my chips.
"I'll be up in my room. Watch him. Be ready by five thirty." Eugene says taking his plate of chips and walk up the stairs.
"Right." I say widening my eyes for a second and raising my eyebrows.
"Edythe, Can you do this?" Hunter asks as he moves one eyebrow up and down.
"Show off." I tease.
Hunter laughs at me. So I grab a chip from his plate.
"Hey! That was mine."
"Oh, you want it back?" I say pretending to scrape it out my mouth.
"Takers, keepers." He says looking at me in disgust.
"What do you want to do?" I say changing the topic.
"Can we watch horrible histories?" He asks me eyes wide with hope.
"Sure." As soon as I said it, he already turned on the large TV and switched it to the recorded section.
What even is horrible histories?
Will it talk about He-who-must-not-be-named, because
that seemed like a horrible history.
