Chapter 5
Sending Shoto a small smile, we follow Endeavor through the streets of Hosu City, the lamps softly lighting up the sidewalk as well as Endeavor's flames acting as a torch. The streets were relatively quiet, save for the odd car driving past. Hosu City is one of the most crime ridden parts of Japan, Endeavor, wanting to show his son what it was like to truly be a hero, dragged both him and I here, a determined grin plastered across his face. Knowing exactly how Endeavor works, I knew he brought Shoto here for a reason.
Hero Killer Stain was around these parts. Recently maiming the legs of a known hero. Due to being his main sidekick, I often went out on patrol with him, leaving Hiro in the care of Fuyumi, today, however, he was with my father, All Might.
Class 1A all had internships this week. Shoto, surprisingly, chose to work under his father.
Suddenly, sirens began blaring, cutting us out of our thoughts, another hero, one of the lower ranks, rushes up to Endeavor, explaining the situation. Within a matter of seconds, we were running through the streets, desperately trying to get to the aid of others. However, Shoto stopped, looking at his phone before darting the other way, yelling back how Midoriya sent him his location.
"Shoto!" I yell extending my hand toward him to grab his wrist before cursing under my breath as he avoids my hand and rushes off in the opposite direction. Immediately, I turni back to Endeavor, "Don't just stand there!"
"Go after him," he says, pointing toward the direction his son ran in. Determination floods his eyes as he looks toward the direction of where the police were heading, "And don't do anything stupid,"
Rolling my eyes, I turn my back toward him and run after Shoto. While I run, I grab my mesh blindfold from the pocket of my costume, wrapping it around my eyes. The blindfold isn't a normal one. It was made of a mesh like material. People, my opponents, couldn't see through them, which meant they couldn't watch where my eyes were looking due to my quirk only working if I can see it in my peripheral vision. However, I can look out of it, which is always an advantage to me.
Coming down to a stop, I halt in-front of an alleyway, gasping at the sight of Iida on the floor, blood seeping through his hero suit. Slowly, I step in, my hair slowly lifting from its downward position, going against the laws of gravity as I activate my quirk, holding small balls of energy in my hand, eyeing the villain who Shoto was attacking. Laying up against the wall is another hero, obviously one who this villain was about to murder. Izuku, also with blood seeping through his hero suit, is propped up against the wall watching. Shoto is throwing both fire and ice his way, the villain quickly dodging both attacks, close to cutting his arm.
"Shoto!" I yell chucking a ball of energy at the villain as I slide into the alleyway, "Duck!"
The light blue ball flies through the air at the speed of sound, slamming into the villain, a loud groan coming from his lips as he is forced away from the students. My breath begins to pick up. Upon close examination, I gasp, staring at the Hero Killer Stain. Slowly, I pull Shoto behind me, staring at the Hero Killer as he climbs to his feet. Glaring my way, he chucks knives my way, his tongue hanging out of his mouth. Shoving my hand out, I stop them midair, a blue aura surrounding them as I let them go again, watching them clatter to the floor.
"Ah, if it isn't Blue Light," he hums smirking as he slowly traipses my way, a cackle echoing through the air, "Tell me, how's the little boy of yours?"
"How did you..." I begin trailing off eyes widening at the mention of Hiro, my hand slowly falling to my side, letting my guard down, "H —"
"(Y/n)!"
Suddenly, a blinding pain shoots through my legs, chasing a scream from my lips as three knives dig into my leg. Shoto gasp: as I collapse to the floor, wincing, his arms wrap around my body, trying to keep me upright. Slowly, he sits me on the floor, turning toward the Hero Killer while Midoriya and Iida climb to their feet. The three of them ready to attack him.
Slowly, I sink into the wall, staring out at the street, a small whimper leaving my lips as the knives jostle in my skin, blood trailing down my leg. Gritting my teeth, I yank a piece of fabric from the other leg of my hero suit. Once it's long enough, I wrap it around my leg (above the three stabbing areas) before tightening it around the limb to try and reduce the amount of blood loss, my chest heaving. God... this is so exhausting. Who knew getting stabbed took so much out of you?
Already, hardly using my quirk but due to blood loss, I begin to feel faint. Nausea slowly stabbing at my stomach.
Anxiety begins scratching at my neck, the thought of him knowing about Hiro scared me. What terrified me more was how. Ever since I fell with child, I hid the whole pregnancy away from the media, Enji, being a somewhat understanding grandfather to Hiro, paid for a private birth in my home, hiring many nurses and midwives to help me. Shoto by my side while I gave birth. Growing up, Hiro was instantly away from cameras and reporters, luckily. Ignoring every question aimed at me about children. Risking Hiro to be out in the open with all the cameras on him was a like putting a huge target on him with luminescent arrows pointing at him, making him an easy target for villains.
So how did he know?
Suddenly, cutting me out of my thought, Enji is by my side, hooking one arm underneath the small of my back while the other gently hooks underneath my legs. The male is, thankfully, careful about the three knives lodged in my skin. Softly he lifts me from the ground. Groaning softly, I place a hand to my head, shaking it before turning my attention to the Hero Killer, standing above Izuku and what seemed to be a Nomu.
Without thinking, my blindfold falling down my face, I shoot my hand up grabbing Stain with my quirk, ignoring the protests from other heroes. Panting hard, I push myself out of Enji's grip, balancing against the huge man as I slowly lift Stain watching him writhe despite my leg bucking under the pressure.
"How did you know about my son!" I yell, tears streaming down my face slowly curling my hand into a fist chasing a scream from him, "Tell me!"
"(Y/n)! That's enough!" Enji yells but I dismiss him as I tighten it slowly, "You'll kill him!"
"How did you know!" I yell, ignoring the blinding pain shooting across my brain as I tighten it, hearing his bones crack, "You knew! How do you know!"
"(Y/n)!" Shoto yells, pushing my arm, making me lose control of my grip on him as he falls to the floor with a groan, "Calm down... it's okay,"
Shaking my head, I groan softly, tears chasing after one another down my cheeks as I collapse into Shoto's arms, my brain practically numb as I groan softly. Black spots claw across my vision as I look up toward Shoto, my chest heavy. Breathing begins to hurt. Grip slowly slides out of my grasp as I become limp.
Everything hurts....
*************
After being checked over at the hospital, Enji reprimands me for being so careless as to nearly killing Stain, yelling in my ear as if I was his own child. Penalising me, insulting me for going against what a hero does. Telling me I'm a bad mother and that if I'm this unstable Hiro shouldn't be living with me. Screaming at me for putting Shoto, Iida and Midoriya in danger and that I shouldn't be so careless in my thought of action. That just running in without a decent enough plan could lead to suicide.
Dismissing his comments, I thank the nurse, feeling guilty for her having to listen to all of that, feeling terrible that her ears were on the verge of going in on themselves due to how loud he was. As the nurse scurries out, Enji shakes his head my way, muttering under his breath as he holds my hands while I swing my legs to the side of the bed. Wincing as my tightly bandages leg has weight forced upon it.
"Another incident like this, girl," he growls, grabbing the crutches from the side and holding them from my grip, forcing me to stare the devil in the eyes, "And Hiro will be living with me, do you understand?"
"You can't do that!" I yell shaking my head as he shoves the crutches into my hands and turns his back to me, already pent up on emotion, "He's my son!"
"I can do what I want!" He booms, slamming his fist on the table making me jump, "You put three interns in danger! From what Shoto tells me you were out of action, just sitting there!"
"He spoke about Hiro!" I yell desperately shaking my head, "None of this is my fault!"
"Hiro will stay with me if you screw up again," he says glaring my way, forcing me to look down, "I've given you everything to raise that boy and I can take it all away in an instant, remember that, now come on, I'll take you home,"
Solemnly nodding, I hobble after him, my eyes never leaving the floor, tears pooling in the corner of my eyes as we come up to his car. There's no point arguing with Enji when he has his mind made up. Hiro, giggling softly, waves at me from the backseat, Shoto sitting next to him. Enji helps me into the car, sitting me in the front, before sitting down in the drivers seat.
The journey home is silent, save for a small conversation between Hiro and Enji, the toddler wanting to hear what happened with the Hero Killer, his eyes sparkling as Enji gives him his own version of the story. I notice Shoto glaring out the window in the mirror, I send him a small weak smile as he smiles weakly back.
Upon arriving back home, Enji helps Hiro out of his seat, setting the boy down on his two little legs while Shoto helps me out the car. My eyes focus on the little boy who babbles happily toward Enji about how good of a hero he is and how he wants to be like him when he's older.
"Are you okay?" He mutters while Hiro clings onto Enji, both of them walking into my home, "Is everything okay?"
"He threatened to take him away from me..." I murmur close to tears as I look up at the dual haired teen, leaning on my crutches, "Can he do that Shoto... can he take Hiro away? Can he really do that?"
"I don't know... but I swear I won't let him," he says rubbing my back, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead as I limp inside with the help of my crutches, "He can't do that,"
Once happy, Enji swiftly takes his leave, rudely without saying goodbye however he did ruffle Hiro's hair. Shoto sends me a small smile as Hiro runs up to me, hugging my good leg as he presses a small kiss to my bandaged leg, softly rubbing it before jumping on the couch. Shoto puts cartoons on the tv as we both head into the kitchen. Silently, Shoto grabs some soba out of the cupboard, beginning to make his favourite dish while I lean on the island staring out into space.
For once, I am petrified...
The thought of Enji taking Hiro away, it frightened me. Taking away the last thing I had that was close to Toya, the only thing that has been keeping me from ending it all. Hiro is my everything, from his birth til now, he is my everything. My baby. My son. Taking him away would be stealing the last piece of my heart, the only thing that I knew could brighten up any dark day. Enji would hurt him, exactly how he hurt Shoto and Toya, exploit him through the use of his quirk.
I couldn't let that happen...
"Why don't you go change?" Shoto says rubbing my arm, "Freshen up a bit, get your mind off all this crap,"
"Will you watch Hiro?" I ask looking up at him, my mind into overdrive worried for my sons safety, "I'm sorry that's a stupid question,"
"Hey, it's fine," He says rubbing my arm, "You're shaken up, a villain has referenced your child who you hid away from the media, you're going to be scared for him..."
"I just don't understand how..." I trail off watching Hiro dance to the music playing on the tv, "I've been so careful..."
"I'll protect him," he says sending me a small smile, "I won't let anything or anyone touch him,"
Sending him a small smile, I kiss his cheek before hobbling toward the stairs, slowly crawling my way up as I enter my bedroom. Anxiously, I sit on my bed, running a hand through my hair as I stare at my reflection. In the corner of the mirror, the fabric of my curtains lick the wind. The window wide open. I don't remember leaving it open... Did Shoto open it when we got home? Groaning softly, I lean on my crutch, locking the window shut before sliding on one of Toya's shirts.
Before leaving, a small piece of card poking out from under my pillow catches my eye. Blink and I would have missed it. Maybe Hiro left me a little note. He's so sweet like that. Gently, I pull it out from underneath, looking confused at the folded piece of paper. Slowly, I unfold it before reading it, instantly I drop it to the floor staring at my reflection with wide eyes before turning to the window. What the hell...
We'll be together soon...
