Chapter 47
Leaning back into the couch, I smile to myself as I watch Hiro sit at the coffee table in the centre of the living room. The little five year old mumbling to himself as he scribbles in on a piece of paper. His turquoise eyes shimmering with happiness as he colours in the sun in the corner of the paper before drawing lines around the quarter circles and then beginning to draw four people on the little grass land he coloured in at the bottom. A smile on his lips as he colours in a house on the side of the paper too. The little boy giggling when he finishes something on the paper.
Beside him, working on his homework but pitching in ideas for his picture every now and then, sat Shoto. The older male playfully hiding the crayons that he was colouring with which made Hiro squeals and climbs all over him to retrieve the desired colour.
As I snuggle into the couch, I arch a brow toward my husband who's needlessly fluffing up the pillows on my back. The red haired male chuckling gently as I stick my tongue out at him. Gently, he presses his lips against mine in a sweet kiss before pulling away and heading toward Hiro to check up on his picture. Toya making sure that Hiro was happy and comfortable.
Despite my pregnancy being a happy thing for the family, Toya's been on edge. He's worrying and fussing over Hiro like something's going to happen which didn't settle right in my stomach. He'd make sure Hiro was tucked in with both of us. Make sure that Hiro had both of us dropping him off at his new school. Have Hiro help us out with dinner. He'd even make sure that we have family cuddles at least three times a week... When he's not fussing over Hiro, he's fussing over me. Making sure that the pair of us are happy, comfy and healthy above anything else.
He was going full on protective mode...
To begin with, it was quite sweet and endearing. Waking up to a breakfast in bed made by Hiro and Toya is always something that I cherish and hold close to my heart. Having Toya cook dinner instead of leaving me to do it. Having Toya run me a nice bath with flower petals and bath salts or a bath bomb was always appreciated after a long hard day at the school. All of it was very well received...
Until it got into overkill...
I didn't realise it at first, but after a while, Toya would do all the things that I like doing around the house. Such as the cooking. I love to cook. I like cooking for my family, especially when I get Hiro involved and we make a mess of it. But Toya wouldn't let me set a foot in the kitchen unless it was to get myself some food... other than that, he would do it for me. I don't mind him cleaning the house (that I don't have a problem with. Don't even get me started about how Toya walks me to and from the high school or drives me there and back.
It was like I was being babied. I think he's forgetting that I spent most of my first pregnancy working myself to the bone at my father - in - laws hero agency to rake in as much cash as I could or that I spent it making dinner for Shoto, Fuyumi and Natsuo whenever they visited. I love being babied... don't get me wrong but... not constantly. I'm not incapable of doing any of the chores.
Apparently, from what Enji told me when I asked him about it (I wanted to see if there was something I could do to try and ease Toya a bit), when Rei was pregnant with his younger siblings, Toya wasn't the most happiest of bunnies. He'd kick up a fuss whenever Rei got pregnant and he would get more and more... closed off around everyone. He wouldn't get excited. He'd get more violent. More angry.
So, from what I can gather, Toya didn't want Hiro to lash out like he did with a new baby on the way.
As Toya saunters into the kitchen to make a start on dinner, I ruffle my sons hair and head to the kitchen myself, shutting the door behind me so Hiro and Shoto can't listen in on the conversation. My husband arches a brow toward me and stops chopping the onions for our dinner to turn his attention toward me, a small hum leaving his lips as he leans against the kitchen counter.
"What's up?" He asks gently, watching as I grab a chair from the dining table and sit down on it. The male freezing as I put my hand up to stop him from helping me, "Everything okay?"
"I'm fine, I wanted to talk to you about something," I explain, resting a small hand on my baby bump and taking a deep breath, "T... is something up?"
"What do you mean?" He asks, turning off the stove so he doesn't have to flit from the food and back to me with a small hum, his turquoise eyes filled with worry, "I don't get what you're insinuating..."
"You've been really, really... overbearing with Hiro and I recently," I explain, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear and clearing my throat as he bites his lip, "I mean, it was cute to being with... but... is something going on that you need to tell me? Did your conversation with Twice go wrong?"
"No babe... Twice didn't mean any harm, he was just wanting to talk to Hiro..." Toya explains, sighing gently as he looks toward the kitchen door before groaning, "I just... I don't want... I don't want Hiro to feel like we love him any less now that the baby is coming... I don't want him... turning out like I did..."
"T, you could have just talked to me and we could have sorted this out," I hum gently, smiling as he walks toward me and kisses my forehead, "You and I both know that Hiro won't think that and if he did he wouldn't hesitate to tell us..."
"I know... it's just..." Toya begins, trailing off as his words die out. The male unable to even comprehend a sentence as he clears his throat and looks down, "I don't... I..."
"Toya, you aren't your father," I hum, wrapping my arms around his neck and pressing a kiss to his cheek, "Hiro's happy, he's loved so much... he wants the baby sibling, he's so excited about this too... you have nothing to worry about,"
"I just don't want him thinking we don't love him any less..." he says softly blushes toward me as I send him a small reassuring smile, the male chuckling as I awkwardly push myself to my feet and head to the fridge, "I love him so much... I don't want him thinking that I don't..."
"Why don't you two have a father/son day?" I ask, pulling out some spinach from the fridge and placing it on the side to have with the steaks that he's making, "Take him out to play basketball or soccer... or maybe take him to the dessert place. Just you and him, no Shoto or Enji or Natsuo. I'm sure he'll love it,"
"Yeah... okay," he hums, hugging me from behind and rubbing circles on my bump as I nibble on some strawberries while I watch Toya turn the stove back on, "I love you so much, babe,"
"I love you too, baby," I hum, giggling as he peppers kisses all over my cheek and nose, smiling as he pulls away, "I'll leave you to it then, I'll see how Hiro is getting along with his special picture,"
"Okay; have fun," he says, oiling the pan before clearing his throat to catch my attention as I open up the kitchen door, "Thank you, doll... I really appreciate it,"
"Hey, I'm your wife and the love of your life, I'm here to help you when you need it just like you're here when I need you," I explain, leaning against the doorway. My heart swelling happily as he chuckles with a nod, "Now, you continue cooking food for my foetus, make sure you use the spinach too,"
Nodding my way, Toya sticks his tongue out before placing the steaks into the pan with a smile. Once I know my husband is happy, I slide into the living room and snuggle into the couch with my fluffy blanket wrapped around me. A giggle leaving my lips when I see Hiro and Shoto wrestling on the floor. Hiro sitting on his uncles stomach while they have their hands clasped around one another's and they're pushing at each other. Shoto giving Hiro a little less power because he could totally overpower his nephew with a single push.
The two of them had big smiles possessing their faces as they push at one another. Hiro squealing as Shoto quickly yanks his hands from him and begins tickling his sides. The two of them laughing with one another and cuddling. Hiro's eyes sparkling with excitement as Shoto throws him up in the air and catches him with a smile.
"Ooh! Mama!" Hiro squeals, wriggling out of Shoto's grip to head toward the coffee table to grab his picture, "Look! I drew this for the baby!"
Cooing toward my son, I hold my hand over my chest and take the picture from his hands as he crawls into my lap and snuggles. On the paper, there was a sun in the corner with a big house in the side with a bright red roof. Then, in the centre of the paper, there were four people. Toya being the tallest, Hiro giving him his usual grunge look and even adding in his scars. Then I was next to him, holding Toya's hand in a blue dress. Then Hiro was beside me, the boy had drawn a little crown on his head too and beside Hiro, a tiny little baby with a little hair sticking out of its head. The little blanket wrapped around it was white.
"I didn't know if it was a boy or a girl so I didn't colour in the blanket," Hiro explains pointing toward the baby with a giggle, smiling as I press a kiss to his chubby cheek, "That's you and daddy! And me! I have a crown because I'm mama's little prince!"
"Yeah you are," I coo, blowing a raspberry on his cheek with a smile. The boy giggling happily as I set it on the coffee table, "I love it so much, thank you sweetie,"
"You're welcome mama!" Hiro chirps before wiggling off my lap and wiggling his little bottom before pouncing on Shoto with a squeal, "You're going down Uncle Sho!"
While the two continue with their play fighting, the doorbell rings making me groan gently and push myself to my feet. Sauntering to the front door, I grab my front door key and unlock it with a small hum. Hoping that it's just the mailman or someone dropping something off, I open up the door with a small smile before freezing. My smile dropping.
What's my dad doing here?...
Clearing my throat, I look behind me to see Toya who's narrowing his eyes at my dad before heading back to the kitchen. Seconds later, he comes back out (probably turning off the stove in the process) and stands behind me for support as I look back toward my father.
"Dad... what... what do you want?" I ask softly, biting my lip as he takes a deep breath and clears his own throat, "Why are you here?"
"Well you said we could talk after your honeymoon, I was hoping we could now," He explains softly, rubbing the back of his neck making me curse under my breath (I really hoped he forgot about it) and slump into my boyfriend who holds me close, "Please?"
"I don't really want to talk to you dad..." I hum with a sigh, puffing my cheeks out as I run my hand over my stomach before freezing and looking toward him, hoping he didn't see anything, "We're literally about to have dinner,"
"It won't take ten minutes, I promise," My father hums, trying to convince me to let him into my house before watching Toya's hand rest over my small baby bump. His eyes narrowing slightly before looking up at me, "Are... are you pregnant? When did you find this out?"
"I found out about a month ago," I sigh, looking away as I lean into Toya. My husband keeping his hold on me, hoping that my father will leave soon, "Now... can you go?"
"I thought you said we could start over," he says, sighing as I shake my head and clear my throat, "(Y/n), I'm trying to —"
"I said we could talk about it... I never said we could..." I explain with a small sniffle, my emotions going into override with the pregnancy and everything, "You begin dating a woman and you don't tell me... you have Midoriya who's practically your stepson now... don't get me wrong, I love Midoriya to pieces and I think he's great and everything but you could have at least told me about it... you don't take my own feelings into consideration... you ruined my family dinner to celebrate my engagement and didn't turn up to my wedding out of spite... I... I don't want to build a relationship that can't be salvaged..."
My father sighs gently and nods, taking that as the final word before clearing his throat and turning to leave. However, before he goes, he turns back and sends me a small smile.
"Okay... I understand..." he begins, looking over my pregnant form and smiling gently, "But... I would at least like you to know that if you ever need anything that I'm here... and I do hope that you don't let this tarnish any relationship that I may have with my future grandchild..."
"I'll keep that in mind," I explain, not wanting to build up his expectations or beat him down. Just leaving it in the air, "Bye,"
As my father leaves, I shut the door and snuggle into my husbands warmth as he holds me tightly to him and rocks us gently. A small whimper leaving my lips as I wipe my eyes and sob gently. Stupid hormones. Stupid emotions. Sighing, I shake my head and clear my throat.
"It'll be okay, wanna help me with dinner?"...
"Yeah... I'm sorry... my emotions are all over the place,"...
"It's okay, come on, I'll even make you your favourite desert,"...
