Chapter 46

Clearing my throat gently, I sit back into one of the rather uncomfortable plastic chairs sitting in the waiting room of our local hospital. My hand rests feverishly on my stomach, seeking comfort from my unborn baby as I gently rub circles on my (not yet formed) baby bump and watch the names flash up on the screen, waiting for my own name to pop up and tell me where I need to go. Despite how anxious I am, excitement bubbles away in my gut, a giggle leaving my lips at how happy I am that Toya is here to experience this with me.

Unlike last time.

A small hum leaving my lips as I remember my first ever appointment when I was pregnant with Hiro. I thought I would have to go alone, since my baby daddy was away causing havoc somewhere else, but Fuyumi and Shoto ended up joining me at my appointment instead (telling me they were there for support). I had to keep telling Shoto to stay by my head, not really wanting him to see things that he shouldn't, and just ended up having him hold my hand so he didn't wander around the room like a curious eleven year old would. Fuyumi, bless her, kept on asking so many questions that I couldn't even remember half the answers the doctor gave her.

As much as I love both Fuyumi and Shoto, having the father of my child with me and experiencing the appointment too made me feel ten times better.

Beside me, trying not to look too nervous, sat Toya. His turquoise eyes looking around the waiting room and wincing whenever the screen beeps with someone's name. Trying to ground himself, he would have an arm wrapped around my waist with his hand resting on the baby bump protectively. As if something would happen. Smiling gently, I smush my cheek against his shoulder and nestle into his warmth, knowing his tense Toya can get about hospitals and doctors offices.

He didn't exactly have the best experience with doctors growing up...

From what I know, because Toya doesn't really like to talk about his childhood, when he developed his quirk and Enji took him to the doctors after seeing his body react negatively to the fire, the doctor had explained to that Toya had developed a quirk that wasn't something he could handle. Crushing his dreams. Telling him that he couldn't be what he wanted to be. Which then, once realising Toya couldn't be the hero that Enji wanted him to be, Enji kind of shunned him and refused to let him train. That's what I know, anyway, there could be more to it that Toya isn't telling me...

Toya saw doctors only giving bad news...

Gently, I lace our fingers together and press reassuring kisses to his knuckles making him chuckle gently and kiss my head as he holds me close. His eyes gently flit to my stomach and he takes a small breath kissing my cheek. He couldn't believe it, after all. That he was going to be a dad again. That he could finally make up for the time he left me and raises our new baby without any hiccups. I don't think I've seen him this happy ever...

As the screen beeps again, my name flashes up making me smile and beckon Toya to come with me. The male squeezes my hand gently, sending me a smile as we walk toward the given room. After knocking on the door, we both walk in and I smile gently toward my OBGYN who helped me through my first pregnant with Hiro.

She and my mom were quite close, from what she's told me. She helped my mom through her pregnancy with me. Doctor Yamamoto is a kind woman who's quirkless, she has soft black hair curled into beautiful ringlets and vibrant green eyes with beautiful dark skin and freckles all over her cheeks, nose and forehead. She has been nothing but supportive during my first pregnancy and was always a call away when I needed advice with Hiro. I haven't spoken to her in a good while so it's so nice to see her after so long.

As soon as her eyes land on me, she giggles and pulls me into a tight hug which I happily return. The woman happily kisses my forehead before shaking Toya's hand and letting me change out of my regular clothes and into a hospital gown before I hop onto the table and get myself comfortable.

"So, baby number two? Huh?" She teases, sitting down at her desk and grabbing my medical records with a small hum, "Now, for your baby daddy since we've never met, I'm Doctor Shurui Yamamoto. I'm an OBGYN and I helped (Y/n) through her first pregnancy,"

"It's nice to meet you," Toya hums gently, trying not to sound too tense or come off as rude as he stands beside my laying form and holds my hand as I squeeze it reassuringly, "I'm Toya,"

"He's Hiro's father," I explain, giggling as Shurui gawks at me before smiling gently and patting my arm, "We haven't told Hiro about the baby yet, we're going to wait until we have the sonogram,"

"Ooh! How exciting!" She squeals gently, clapping her hands before grabbing all the equipment she needs and pulling the screen for the sonogram up with a small smile, "So, obviously I have to run through the questions. Have you had any discomfort? Anything you need to ask or anything you have any problems about?"

"Just cramps every now and then but I had that with Hiro," I explain, running my fingers through my hair as I take my hair tie from Toya to pin it out of my way, "And I've have an aversion to my sons pancakes which upsets him because he keeps thinking he's cooking them wrong,"

"Your boy is adorable isn't he?" Shurui hums as she washes her hands and gently lifts the hospital gown to rub some gel over my stomach, "How is Hiro?"

"Hiro's great, he's happy and he's got everyone wrapped around his finger," I hum with a giggle, shivering at the cool gel before leaning back into the table and looking up at my husband, "Have you got any questions?"

"Yeah... uh..." Toya begins, clearing his throat as he gently fiddles with my hand nervously and takes a deep breath, "H — how do you help someone that's pregnant? Like... what can you do and what can't you do?"

"Well, first things first, comfort is key. Always make sure that she's comfortable," Shurui explains, smiling gently toward Toya as he nods and takes note of everything, "Always lead by her, and try to make sure she's as calm as possible. From her own experience, is she's stressed it could lead to a premature birth or worse depending on how far along she is. I have a leaflet you could take home and look at, it should have all the information that you need,"

"Thank you," Toya hums, taking the leaflet and kisses my forehead as I tense up when I feel the wand of the sonogram rub over my stomach, "So does this tell the gender or?"

"Not yet, we're not that far in yet T," I hum, giggling at how innocent he is when it comes to pregnancy, the male pouting toward me as I stick my tongue out toward him, "We'll find out soon or we can wait until the birth,"

Nodding, Toya watches the screen as Shurui rubs the wand over. His eyes glued to the black and white picture, his eyes widening slightly as Shurui stops moving the wand and keeps it over a certain spot. The woman smiles as she points toward the screen, gesturing toward the outline of a head and a somewhat body. My heart squeezes happily as I stare at it with a big smile. That's our baby...

"That's your baby," Shurui hums with a small smile, giggling to herself as she sees Toya's starstruck expression, "I'll give you two a minute,"

As she leaves the room, Toya bites his lip and snuggles into my neck as I wipe happy tears sliding down my cheeks. Coughing back a happy sob, I look up at Toya with a smile making him chuckle gently and press his lips against mine for a chaste kiss. As we pull away, he stares back at the screen and smiles.

"You know, when I had my first appointment with Hiro," I begin, giggling to myself as I already know what I'm going to say, "Shoto kept telling me he looked like a potato and thought my baby would come out as a potato,"

"Of course he did," Toya hums with a chuckle, smiling to himself as he holds me close and rubs circles on my arm as we stare at the sonogram, "Hiro's going to be over the moon,"

"He really is," I reply with a giggle, smiling as Shurui walks back in with prints of the sonogram making me smile, "Thank you Shurui,"

"Of course, sweetie," she replies, handing Toya the envelope with the sonogram pictures before clearing her throat, "Now for the uncomfortable part,"

After Shurui does the exam, doing it as quick as possible so I'm not in much discomfort, Toya and I head back home. Toya, despite my better judgement, was driving the car instead of me. A small smile plays on my lips as our hands lace together while Toya drives, steering into junctions as I look at the sonogram pictures with a happy smile. My heart bursting for joy as I gently trace my finger over the outline of the baby.

As Toya manoeuvres into our driveway, he turns the car off and presses a soft kiss to my lips before pushing himself out of the car. When I leave the car, the front door opens to reveal Enji with a rather excited Hiro standing by his legs. The little boys eyes twinkle with excitement as Enji ruffles his hair.

"Daddy!" Hiro squeals, running to Toya and giggling as he scoops him up and snuggles into his warmth, "Where'd you go? Did you get candy? Did you find out why mama doesn't like my pancakes?"

"Why don't you go sit in the living room bud? We'll tell you in a minute," Toya promises, kissing his forehead before letting him scurry into the house and snuggling into the couch, waiting for us, "He behaving?"

"You know he's an angel, can't do anything wrong, can he?" Enji hums, smiling gently before chuckling as I hand him one of the sonogram pictures to pin to the fridge at his home and he can add to a new baby album (Enji and Rei has baby albums for each child and grandchild of the Todoroki family) for this baby, "Oh would you look at that..."

"Grandchild number two," I hum, smiling as Enji leans against the doorway staring at the picture, "Lets go tell, Hiro before he thinks I'm dying,"

Chuckling, Toya leads me into the living room and sits me down. Already, Toya begins to make sure I'm comfortable, kissing my forehead when I tell him I'm okay before he sits beside and we look toward Hiro who's tilting his head confused. His turquoise eyes shimmering with curiosity as I look toward Toya and hand Hiro the sonogram picture with a small smile.

Pouting to himself, Hiro looks toward the sonogram and gently traces the lines. The boy confused at what the picture was. Hiro looks toward us and sets the picture down in front of him as he looks at it. His little eyes scrunching up as he tries to depict what it is making Enji snort from the doorway. After Toya sends his father a glare, I clear my throat.

"Sweetie, do you know what that is?" I ask, running my fingers through his red locks as he shakes his head with a small frustrated pout on his lips, "Want mama to tell you?"

"Yes, please," Hiro says, looking up at me enthralled by what the picture was, "It's not a jelly bean... or a potato..."

"Sweetie you're so cute," I coo, kissing his nose before pulling him into my lap and grabbing the picture, pointing toward the baby in the picture, "That's mama's baby, you're going to be a big brother,"

"That's the baby?" He asks gasping, looking up at me with wide eyes as I nod happily. A big grin stretches across his face as he looks back at the picture, "Am I gonna be a big brother?"

"Yeah you are, bud, mama's pregnant," Toya explains, chuckling as Hiro wriggles off my lap and runs around the house with his arms in the air and cheering at the top of his lungs, "Better than how I took being a big brother,"

"You weren't happy," Enji hums with a chuckle, laughing as Toya throws a pillow at him, "I'm not lying am I? And don't get me started on when Shoto was born,"

"Shush!" Toya hisses, glaring toward Enji who puts his hands up in surrender and heads to the kitchen, "Happy bud?"

"Yeah! Where's the baby?" He asks excited, vibrating with joy, unable to sit still as I hold his hands, the boy jumping with a giggle, "When will it come?"

"It's in my belly," I hum, giggling as Hiro stares at my stomach and pokes at it gently before pouting, "What?"

"Why did you eat it, mama? You're not supposed to eat it!" He gawks, staring at Toya with wide eyes making Toya chuckle while I snort behind my hand, "It's not funny! Get it out!"

"Sweetie, I didn't eat a baby," I hum, ruffling his hair making his shoulders sag with relief as I smile, "It's in my belly so it can grow,"

"Well then you gotta eat lots mama! Grandpa and I can make cold soba!"...

"You don't have too H —"...

"Grandpa! We're making mama lunch to help the baby grow!"...
