Chapter 23

"Which button even is it?"

That's what I wake up to. As my alarm gently blares off to remind me to wake up and actually start the day, I am woken up to the sound of my boyfriend and my father trying to find out how to work the oven. Dabi's side of the bed empty, save for a small silhouette and the creasing of the sheets of where his body was. A small whine leaving my lips as I stretch the knots out of my body and slip into my slippers and slide my bed robe on, tying it around my waist as I scuffle downstairs with a shirt yawn. Arching a brow at the sight before me as I lean against the kitchen doorway.

"I swear you have to turn this thing in order for it to work," My father says scratching his head as he assesses all the buttons and knobs on my electric oven, Hiro sitting at the dining table with his slices of toast watching them with a giggle, "I haven't cooked for anyone in ages,"

"Are you boys having trouble?" I ask crossing my arms over my chest with a small giggle, giving Dabi a good morning kiss before kissing my fathers cheek, "Little word of advice, actually turn the oven on at the wall before you start judging what does what,"

"No wonder the bacon didn't cook," My father mutters as I flip the switch on, turning the grill on for him as I slide the slices of bacon back into the grill, "Thank you, honey,"

"What were you two doing anyway?" I ask, resting my weight on my hip as I arch a brow at them, Dabi sending me a small smile, "What were you planning?"

"I wanted to make you breakfast in bed," Dabi admits sheepishly with a small smile, rubbing the back of his neck while I giggle toward him, "Poached egg?"

"Sounds great," I reply, kissing his cheek before heading toward my son and kissing his forehead, "So what's the plan for today, Dabi?"

"Well, Fuyumi and Natsuo are coming over with Shoto, so we're all gonna catch up and stuff," Dabi explains with a small smile, his eyes glimmering excitedly at the thought of rekindling his relationship with his siblings, "And Fuyumi is gonna teach me how to cook certain meals for our upcoming anniversary dinner... what about you?"

"You're not gonna like my answer," I reply leaning against the island with a sheepish grin, giggling nervously as Dabi cages me against the island and arches a brow. Expecting me to reply, "Hiro and I are paying a visit to your father in hospital... so he knows we're safe,"

"You're kidding, right?" Dabi asks annoyed, rolling his eyes with a groan, "Why give him the decency when he's treated you like shit?"

"Touya, I understand that things between you and your father are difficult to understand but he is still Hiro's grandfather," My dad intervenes with a small smile, "He's trying to change for the better, sure I know it's too late for you but you need to give him a chance,"

"There's no way in hell, I'm letting that happen," Dabi replies shaking his head as he waits for the water in the pan to boil, "Even in Number One he's not happy,"

"We'll only be out for a little bit, I promise," I say gently, sliding my fingers in between his hair and smiling gently, "Then I'll come home and you and I can have cuddle,"

"Alright... but if he tries anything you tell me," Dabi says kissing my nose as he pulls the poached egg from the pan and lays it on two slices of toast, handing me the plate with a small smile, "And you leave as soon as he acts up, I don't want him upsetting you,"

"I will," I assure him, sitting down at the table and digging into my meal, poking the egg yolk with my fork until the yolk spills all over the toast and plate, smiling to myself, "It's just a quick visit, I'll go out and get you some soba if you want? I can make you your favourite?"

At the sound of that, Dabi perks up with a small chuckle, kissing Hiro's forehead as the boy finishes his breakfast and teeters out the room to nab the remote control before Dabi could get his hands on it. My father sitting down opposite me as he digs into his bacon, sending me a small smile while Dabi sits beside me and eats some toast.

"What are you up to today, dad?" I ask looking toward the blonde ex hero who smiles gently as he finishes his mouthful.

"Nothing much, Young Midoriya and I are doing some training in the afternoon," he explains sipping his orange juice, nodding to himself as he recalls what his plans are, "And I'm going over what Toya's options are from this point, work out what we'll do and go from there,"

"Dabi," He corrects, nodding toward All Might with a small smile, "If you don't mind, I would like to go by Dabi, only close family and (Y/n) are allowed to call me Toya, sir..."

"Of course, my apologies," Dad says with a smile and takes my empty plate when I finish, kissing my forehead before placing them in the sink, "When are you seeing Mrs Todoroki?"

"I'm taking Hiro next week," I reply, standing up and grabbing a hair tie, pinning my hair back into a half up - half down style with a small hum, "Hopefully Dabi can come with me when we do,"

Dabi chuckles, kissing my cheek as I hug him from behind, resting my cheek on his shoulder as I look toward his sitting form. Giggling softly, I play with his shirt, smiling happily before groaning as I check the time, knowing that I better get my ass into gear if I don't want Enji to be on my ass for being late to visiting times. A small huff leaving my lips as I pull away, grabbing the small bag full of some gifts for him. My father, as much as I love him, wanted to get him something since he worked so hard on gaining approval from the public and the media.

I'm just hoping it's one of those bittersweet things where there's a hidden meaning and dads actually rubbing it in his face.

"Come on Hiro, let's go see Papa Enji," I call out, grabbing my coat with a sigh before looking toward Dabi who walks over and cups my cheek, "We shouldn't be more than a couple hours, have fun with your family,"

"I will," Dabi says kissing my lips gently before pulling away with a smile, "You be careful,"

"Of course," I reply, patting his cheek gently before holding Hiro's hand, "Say bye to daddy,"

"Bye bye, daddy! I love you!" Hiro says, huffing him with a giggle, kissing his cheek and smiling widely.

"I love you too, buddy," Dabi says kissing his forehead before pulling away, looking toward me, "I love you,"

"I love you too," I reply with a smile, feeling relieved and happier than ever that I can finally allow myself to say that, kissing his cheek one last time before opening the door and leading Hiro out the house with a smile, "Come on, let's go see Papa Enji,"

The walk toward the hospital couldn't have been any more longer. I could feel my feet dragging the closer I got to the hospital and the further away I got from my home. Hiro nearly dragging me toward the hospital from how slow I was walking. A small, pushed sigh leaving my lips as I notice the amount of eyes laying on Hiro and I. Attracting unwanted attention since getting kidnapped wasn't the best of things...

Why couldn't people just keep their business to themselves?

Time seemed to slow down when I entered the reception, forcing smiles toward the woman behind the desk as she hands me some forms to fill out before going to see the man that's been making my life hell since I could remember. Trying to stop myself from snapping at one of the nurses as she speaks to Hiro in a baby voice, giggling softly toward him as she asks him countless questions about his favourite heroes and who he's here to see. My brain whirring at a thousand miles per minute as I write down my name, relation to Enji and everything else in between before signing the paper and handing it back to the woman who tells me his room.

Well... no turning back now...

Taking a deep breath, I pull Hiro away from the nurse, sending her a sickly sweet smile before heading down the hallway. Sending a small smile toward any of the wandering patients, trying to swerve past nurses and doctors as quick as I can. Knowing that the quicker that I get there, the sooner I could leave. My shoes feeling like lead as soon as I stand before the door that separates me from the grandfather of my child and the father of my boyfriend. My heart in my throat. My stomach tangling together as I gently tap at the door. His voice making my stomach bubble.

"Come in,"

Gulping in as much air as I can, I push the door open. Feeling underwater. Dizzy, even. My head swimming. Stepping one foot in front of the other, I walk into the room, gulping nervously as I send a small nervous smile toward Enji. The male sitting up in his hospital bed, an IV stuck into his arm, bandages around his face, chest, arms and legs. A sort of distant look in his eye.

"Papa!" Hiro squeals, giggling happily as he teeters to him and clambers up into the hospital bed, smiling widely as Enji chuckles and pulls him close with his good arm, "You okay?"

"I'm fine, little one, your papa is a strong man, takes a lot more than a Nomu to take me down," Enji replies with a chuckle, smiling softly as he watches Hiro snuggle into him, the hair on the back of my neck standing up at the fear of Enji taking him away, "How are you, hm?"

"I'm good! Papa All Might's been playing heroes with me!" Hiro replies with a huge grin, holding his All Might figurine close with a giggle, "And we watch loads of movies!"

"Oh yes, of course, All Might's your other grandfather," Enji hums with a small huff, glaring toward me, his icy stare digging knives into my chest as I gulp nervously, looking back, "I wonder how long your mother was keeping that from me... and if there's anything else she's hiding?"

"Toya knew and that's what mattered," I reply clearing my throat of the nervous ball of nerves clawing up my neck, digging my nails into my palms to prevent myself from darting out of the room, "Anyway, it wasn't any of your business who my family was,"

"I'd watch your mouth, girl, I've done a lot for you that I didn't have to do," Enji seethes, glaring toward me as he runs his fingers through his grandsons hair, "Talking to me like that will get you nowhere,"

"So where were you when I needed saving? Hm? Hiro and I could have been dead for all you know and you were soaking up all the love and affection of being number one," I retort shaking my head, crossing my arms over my chest as I lean against the wall, "But it's okay, you got what you want. No one else matters,"

"If your father wasn't so weak, then I would have gotten it properly," Enji hisses glaring toward me before smirking, "I guess weakness runs in the family, let's just hope my grandson got the better genes,"

"Oh my god..." I hum, shaking my head with a sick laugh, rubbing my temple, "My father did more than you ever could. You'll never amount to anything my father was because you're nothing, Enji. You won't ever be the pillar of hope that everyone saw him, because he was always better,"

Ooh, that struck a nerve

The flame hero's bright turquoise eyes twitching in anger. His hands curling into fists as he stares toward me. My heart stops as I stare up at him but adrenaline is kicking me into fight mode. Returning his glare with as much intensity as I can.

"Papa! Papa! Guess what?!" Hiro squeals, breaking the tension between us as the attention goes back to him, Enji's eyes softening toward his grandson, "I got my quirk!"

"Oh really? What is it?" Enji asks intrigued, my heart catching in my throat as Hiro opens his palm and lets light blue flames dance across his palm with a giggle. My eyes searching Enji's biting my lip as I notice them shimmer with greed... maybe even pride, "That's wonderful, little one, I'll start teaching you how to control it when I'm out,"

"You don't have to! Daddy's teaching me!" Hiro says with a grin, acting as if what he said didn't just push me into a twelve foot deep hole!

My heart is like a stone. Dropping to my stomach when Enji's cold stare meets my eyes. So many possibilities running through his mind as he stares me down. The possibility that I moved on from his son. The possibility that Hiro has started growing attached to another guy... my heart racing as he glares toward me.

"What does that mean, (Y/n)? Toya's dead,"...

Shit!....
