Chapter 2
Oh this is humiliating...
Groaning softly, I stare at my reflection in the mirror, internally cursing not only myself, but my supporting heroes, at the sight of my hero costume hugging my body. I hadn't worn it in ages. Enji would hardly allow me on patrols, often saying that he didn't want to be held back by someone who's 'inexperienced' and 'weak'. I would patrol with him around twice a week if I'm lucky... maybe once every two weeks if he's mad at me.
Putting my hero costume back on, seemed slightly unreal at first. It's not common for me to wear it. It's almost like dipping in the pool for the first time, you're unsure about how it will feel until you sink in properly. My outfit isn't the most eye catching of pieces. It's just a plain black jumpsuit with pastel blue lines curling around my legs and my arms. I have light blue cuffs around my wrist and ankles. The jumpsuit hugs my body in all the correct places, too, and, because I was quite young when I created it, it shows a bit of cleavage.
Internally screaming at myself, I push out of the bathroom and shut the door behind me. I then head downstairs while I haphazardly tie my hair up in a ponytail. At the bottom of the stairs, stands Shoto in his UA uniform, a bag slung round his shoulders while holding onto Hiro, who's dressed in shorts and a t shirt. Both were by the front door, waiting for me to finish getting ready. Smiling softly at them, I slide on my shoes before picking up Hiro's day bag. Then, a ritual I have done for years on end, I press a kiss to my middle and forefinger before pressing the pads of my kisses fingers against Toya in one of the pictures. A habit that I have done ever since I lost him.
"Ready to go?" I ask smiling softly before noticing some jam on the corner of Hiro's lips. Shaking my head, I quickly lick my thumb and rub the jam off his cheek before clearing my throat, "Have we got everything?"
"Yeah," Shoto says stepping out into the outside and pressing a kiss to Hiro's nose after I open the door. The little four year old smiling as Shoto places him down on his feet, "You sure you'll be okay, going back?"
"Hey, I'll be fine," I reply, locking the door behind me and head down the driveway with my hand locked with Hiro's, "It's not like I'm going back where I was never wanted, remember it used to be my second home when I was your age,"
Shoto nods at my statement, remembering about my childhood as we get onto the sidewalk and head down the street in the direction of U.A High School. Beside me, Hiro looks around while babbling to Shoto about a hero, today it's all about Best Jeanist, while carrying a random stick that he picked up from the ground. The little boy waves it around every now and then, giggling when he accidentally whacks my leg harder than he meant to.
Growing up myself, from an infant all the way to a teen, I was often babysat by a couple of the teachers at UA. My father, harsh as it may seem, made hero work his priority and basically pushed me to the bottom of his list. Instead of having my father at any competitions or reward ceremonies, I would often have his sidekicks or one of the teachers in the background, supporting me. My father never took care of me and always pushed me onto someone else. I never knew why, it was just how the cards fell.
Besides, being as big as a hero as he is, I can kind of understand why.
I couldn't hold a grudge against him, it's not his fault that his hero work piles up.
Smiling softly, Hiro and I give a Shoto a big thumbs up before he traipses into the building alone. I didn't really want him to be embarrassed on the first day by mollycoddling his nephew or walking in with one of the teachers. Teenagers can be really weird about that sort of stuff. I guess they're just a different breed.
Taking a deep breath, I take one step through the gates, pushing myself toward my more or less childhood home. Hiro looks around in awe, turquoise irises shimmering with curiosity as I walk through the front doors. The amount of students walking through the halls is insane. Humming softly, I push through the hallways, and head toward the staff room. As I open the door soft, I'm immediately greeted by several familiar faces.
"Ah! Miss (Y/n)," The principal sings holding his hands together. His deep black eyes staring at me and my son as I wave nervously at him and clear my throat. My heartbeat in my throat as Hiro giddily waves toward the other teachers, "How wonderful to see you again!"
"Hi," I reply meekly, sending an awkward smile toward everyone staring at me while Hiro is being the little social butterfly I know he can be. The four year old immediately skipping toward Nemuri, the R - Rated Hero: Midnight, to have a look at her costume, "This is Hiro..."
"Aww, isn't he just adorable," Midnight coos, snatching him from the floor before twirling him in her arms making him squeal with laughter and clap his hands, "Yes you are! Auntie Midnight thinks you're cute!"
"So, who will be looking after him?" I ask playing with my fingers nervously as I slide down onto a spare desk. The rodent principal sending me a reassuring smile as I slide a strand of hair behind my ear, "If you don't mind me asking,"
"We'll have All Might babysitting him for most of the time," Nezu explains making me tense up softly, while biting my lip. A newfound dread stabs into my stomach at the thought of my father meeting my baby like this, "When he's doing hero training, I or Eraserhead or Present Mic will take over,"
Nodding softly, I run a hand through Hiro's hair and let out a small sigh. His turquoise eyes stare up at me inquisitively before he goes back to playing with Midnight's hair. Unfortunately, due to my tense and distant relationship with my father, I didn't even tell him I got pregnant, he wasn't my go to person to tell. I mean, I told Endeavor, before telling him, and I hate Endeavor. So, receiving karma for not telling him, I had to brace myself for the reaction that my father would bring as soon as he walked in.
Midnight places Hiro back onto the floor after a while, informing everyone that she has a class to teach before she presses a kiss to Hiro's nose and leaves the room with a little smile on her lips. Nezu sends me a warm smile, patting the sofa next to him. An invitation. Slowly, I sit beside him and pull Hiro into my lap, quietly thanking him for the tea as I sip it softly. It only calms me ever so slightly.
However, the door is suddenly flung wide open. Immediately, fear grips my heart. My mind running a mile a minute as I try not to break into a nervous sweat. A loud audible gulp resounds in my throat as my father dashes in, exclaiming that everything will be fine now that he is here... his cliche line that he's well known for.
"Ah! All Might!" Nezu sings smiling, "How nice of you to join us,"
"Not a problem, Principal Nezu," he says putting his hands on his hips, his deep voice echoing around the room, "Now! Where is the little boy I'm supposed to be protecting? I have big fun filled plans for our day!"
"You're babysitting," I say bluntly, rubbing Hiro's back softly as he stares up in awe at the Number One Hero, his idol, his grandfather, "Dad... this is Hiro, your grandson,"
Silence immediately crashes into the room like a freight train. An uncomfortable, nail biting silence that makes me shift in my seat nervously. Stomach flips in different directions while my eyes focus on the large blonde male in front of me. Gouging his reaction, my teeth attack my nails as I watch many emotions flick through my fathers features.
First I see slight happiness before it dissipates into anger. Anger that I hadn't told him I had a baby. Anger that I didn't tell him I feel pregnant. Sadness then washes over him. Upset that I didn't tell him. Then, confusion... then again, he didn't know who the baby daddy was. Then happiness adorns his features like he didn't just have a million emotions rush through his face. Probably not wanting to affect the first impression of himself to his grandson.
"I have a grandson! You didn't tell me!" He booms picking up the little boy and twirling him around making him squeal. Hiro's eyes twinkle happily as he wraps his arms around one of the heroes that he has admired since he was a baby, "Oh look at how big you are! And how old are you, young man?"
"I'm four! Nearly five!" Hiro chirps, grabbing onto the blonde fringe parts of my fathers hair and smiling as my dad kisses his nose, "My mama says that I'm gonna grow big and strong!"
"Well, you must listen to your mother," My father tells him, sitting his grandson on his hip to talk to him, "She is very wise, just like me!"
The interaction in front of me tugs at my heartstrings. It's so adorable... you see, I never resented my father for abandoning me at such a young age and pushing me onto other people. We both lost my mother. Dying during childbirth. So, I never got to meet her. Only through word of mouth was I able to picture her as well as the photos that lay on the mantelpiece in my fathers home. That's why I was so upset for Hiro... knowing what it was like growing up with only one parent. However, I didn't grow up with any parents technically, All Might only showed up when he wanted to.
So I never really told anyone who my father was... only telling Toya. Who swore on his mother's life that he'd never tell anyone.
"Ah! So I get to spend some time with my grandson!" He cheers, holding Hiro close as he snuggles into his broad chest happily, "I'll look after him, don't worry!"
"I know you will," I reply, smiling softly, pressing a soft kiss to Hiro's forehead, "Be a good boy for your papa All Might, Hiro,"
"Yes mama," he says, still staring up at All Might with awe, "I love you mama!"
"I love you too sweetie," I reply, ruffling his hair before heading out the staff room once I'm sure that my son is happy and safe with my father, "Thank you dad,"
As I leave the staff room, class was already in session. Nezu gave today as a free pass, already informing the teacher that I was working with that I'd be late to allow me to get Hiro settled in. Letting out a small sigh and appearing at the humanely large door with 1A painted all over it, I slowly slide it open and push myself in before shutting it behind me with a confident click. Instantly, all eyes are on me. Anxiety crawls up my spine as I take one further step in, however it softens as I meet the eyes of Shoto.
Aizawa, their tutor, is found asleep on the floor, curled up in a sleeping bag with his midnight black tresses caressing the floor beneath him. Rolling my eyes softly, I let out a small, friendly smile as I step over their teacher and sitting at the desk at the front of the class before looking over the pupils. All of them are unique in their own way. One boy, with green hair, reminding me of broccoli, begins muttering to himself as he flicks through a notebook.
"Is he okay?" I ask, pointing toward him before recoiling it as the boy in front of him, slams his hand on his desk, making the greenette jump, "Are you okay?"
"You're... you're a pro hero!" He pushes out, his eyes twinkling suddenly, as he finally finds the page that he was looking for in his book, "You're in the top twenty!"
"I wouldn't say pro..." I reply rubbing the back of my neck with a small nervous smile making Shoto chuckle silently to myself, "I'm a sidekick..."
"You are a pro hero! You're Telekinetic Hero : Blue Light!" He says pointing my way, jumping in his seat, "You work by Endeavor!"
"Yes I do," I muse leaning forward before properly introducing myself to the class by standing in front of them all and clapping my hands together to gather their attention. A kind smile stretches across my face as I look over everyone, "Hello everyone, I'm Blue Light but I'm not really one for formalities so you can call me Miss (L/n),"
"What's your quirk?" A girl with short brown hair and big round eyes asks me leaning in, her hand in the air as she speaks, "Is it fire based like Endeavor?"
"Oh no, it's Telekinesis," I explain smiling softly, more than happy to answer any questions that the students have about me or my quirk, "I can pick up anything with my mind and make it do whatever I want, however, if I use it too much or pick up too many things, I suffer from major migraines and fatigue,"
"Woah! That's so cool! Very manly!" A boy with spiky red hair says, small tears pooling in the corner of his eyes, "I wish I could be that awesome!"
A small smile plays across my lips as the class continue on with their worksheet. My mind wanders to Toya as I sit silently, my body longing for one of his cuddles as I sit envying Aizawa sleeping in his sleeping bag. Groaning softly, I wipe a small tear gathering in the corner of my eye before looking to Shoto who sends a small look my way, mentally asking if I'm okay. Sending him a reassuring smile, I nod gently. I couldn't lose myself. I had a job to do and that was look after these 20 kids as well as my own. To protect them.
That is what Toya would have wanted...
