AU: when Glenn finds a lovers cassette tape

I moved the blankets around Glenn and I's makeshift room in the watchtower, where I had lugged two flattened mattresses up the ladder and shuffled them next to one another with the blankets we had found from nearby houses. With an exhausted sigh, i bounced onto the hard mattress grunting slightly at the impact

"Not quite a 5-star hotel then?" i heard Glenn's voice speak as his body climbed up the ladder

"Of course you get here once i have already carried all the heavy stuff up here" i smirked at him as he came to my side bouncing on the mattresses and looking at me with a painful expression

"See!" i smiled making him pout before quickly pecking my lips

" We will make it work" he muttered, pulling away from the kiss. "I have a surprise for you" he looked down at me

"You've been clearing out block D all day. How do you have a surprise?"

" exactly, and in section D we found a confiscation locker, where i found..." he made a drum sound with his lips "this" he grabbed my hands putting a grey cassette into my hands

I smiled in curiosity at his eager expression grabbing the cassette and turning it over reading

"Music?" i looked eagerly "how did someone even make a mixtape in here?" i laughed

"Hey, these people were in jail, I'm sure pirating music was a side hustle in here," he joked. I turned the cassette to the side seeing a thick drawn #3

" she never got the 3rd one" i frowned slightly

"Maybe she got the first two at least?"

"True love prevails even in prison i guess" i looked up to his eyes "i wish we could listen to this" i sighed

"Well that's the second part of your surprise" he grinned sitting up from the hard surface as i furrowed my eyebrows at him " block D also had a library and it held up pretty well I'm sure there will be a walkman in there" he beamed

"A Library!!" i gushed "did you see it had any good books?"

"I should have known the first thing you would say would have been about books" he laughed remembering all the times he spotted you on the farm reading

"Come on, let's go!" i grabbed his hand launching out of the bed starting to climb down the ladder

"How have you now got energy?" he stood as my hands dragged him

"Music and Books Glenn! Come on!" I breathed out at him rushing down the ladder and pushing him in front of me as we got to the bottom for him to lead the way.

Glenn pulled us both into the cleared library

"Okay you go get the books you want and I'll look for a walkman?" he questioned and i nodded before going to rush off but got stopped by his hands pulling my hand back

"You and i both know you won't get just one book" he grabbed a tattered drawstring bag handing it your way

"You know me too well then clearly" i stood on my tiptoes pecking his lips before rushing off to the nearest shelf grabbing 2 books at once and heard him chuckle from behind me before walking off to the other side of the room

After picking out 5 or so books i heard Glenn's voice call me and i turned around to see him approach me with his hands outstretched lightly shaking a black walkman

"It runs on batteries, but we may be in for a shot!" he spoke, pulling me into his side showing me the machine. I smiled up at him swiftly sitting on the floor between two bookshelves pulling him down with me. Slipping my fingers into my cardigan pocket, I grabbed the delicate cassette, clicking it into place.

"Here's to Delilah and Stephen's epic love story and music taste?" I toasted dramatically, passing the walkman to Glenn who pressed play. The machine started to make fussy noises with a faint voice before Glenn was able to tune it in better and a soft melody played

My smile beamed at the music as I looked up and met eyes with Glenn, "have I ever told you how much I love you?!" you beamed

"No, not enough really" he faked as I scoffed, making him smile, I shook my head at him and pounced onto his lap kissing him, making him wrap his hands around my body.

"Is that enough?"

"I don't know, maybe you'll have to show me just how much on them mattresses you so hardworking carried up to the towers" he smirked as i laughed smacking his chest teasingly
