Chapter 4

What I'm doing right now was satisfying. At least for me.

Dahil first week ko pa lang naman, I was given a handful of paper works na sa tingin ko ay hindi naman mahirap. I just need to be mindful sa mga wrong spellings and number because that's the crucial things I need to look out and if I made a mistake, pwede kong ulitin ang lahat ng sheet o kaya naman I would be called out for doing this little mistake, but a big deal for an intern like me.

Miss Sienna was kind enough to guide on other things na hindi ako familiar. She even told me na sobrang swerte ko raw for having Sir Macek as my mentor. His time is precious ika nga tapos ilalaan niya pa iyong iba niyang oras sa akin when other people could do it, but then he insisted kaya choosy pa ba ako?

I'm in London, in my dream country tapos blessing pa itong mga magagandang nangyayari sa akin. I feel like umaayon ang lahat sa tamang lugar. Siguro tama nga sila na naaayon sa tamang panahon ang lahat.

And I couldn't ask for more, being in London was already enough for me.

"Miss Sienna, can I go to the pantry? I'm just going to grab some snacks."

Agad naman niya akong tinanguan. Tumunog naman ang kanyang telephone kaya agad niya iyong sinagot at nawala na sa akin ang atensyon niya. Tumayo naman ako sa kinauupuan ko at tumungo sa pantry.

When I got there, Arden and Berk was already there kaya agad naman nila akong tinawag. They were so funny and amazed that I got have lunch with the CEO and for everyone, that's a kind of a big deal.

"You should look after your back," Arden said. Napakunot naman ang noo ko. "There are some people who would look at in a bad way even if you're just an intern."

"I agree," Berk said. "People weren't what you they are. Everyone wanted to be on the top—obviously we do, but because we love what we're doing now, it's enough for now... but yeah, why did he ask you out on a lunch?"

"It wasn't personal," sagot ko saka tumungo sa table kung nasaan ang mga snacks. There were chips and cookies. I grabbed a small plate then put nachos in it then poured some cheese on it. HInarap ko naman silang dalawa saka ako umupo sa pagitan nila. "He just wanted to get to know me. My expectations, who am I, and where I came from. Basically, he just wanted to know me and that's all. People shouldn't make a fuss about that."

"You can't be sure," Arden smirked. "And hey! Berkeley told me you guys went together in the office because you lived in the same building!"

"Not really the same building," Berk corrected. "Same area, Arden. Area."

"That's the same thing," she rolled her eyes. "So, how was your first date, guys?"

Napakunot-noo naman ako sa sinabi niya at bahagyang natawa. Siniko rin naman siya ni Berkeley dahil sa sinabi nito.

"We didn't had a date," paliwanag ko pa. Kumagar naman ako sa nachos. I know I shouldn't be explaining about it pero gusto ko lang din naman linawin. "We just had a dinner. It wasn't a date."

"Arden was just making a story out of it," Berk laughed. "But how was Sir Connagh, KC?"

"He's nice, funny, and a person full of wisdom. I do believe that I'll be able to learn a lot of things from him. Just from our conversation earlier, I think I'm going to expect that."

"Oh, that's why you smiled so differently, KC," komento ni Arden sabay tawa.

My face scrunched when she said that. Umiling na lang din naman ako. "I don't know what you're thinking about it, but I believe there's nothing wrong with that."

"Absolutely, KC, I was just joking," Arden said, patting my shoulder. "But I also believe someone is going to break his heart."

"Who?" I asked, creasing my forehead.

She just laughed and didn't answer me. Naubos ko na rin naman ang pagkain ko kaya nauna na akong bumalik sa area ko. May hinabol pang sinabi sa akin si Berk na sabay kaming umuwi or if I have plans to eat out daw ay sabihan ko siya. We exchange our numbers kahapon so it'll be easy for us to contact each other.

Pumayag naman ako saka mas okay na 'yon na may kasama akong umuwi. But whatever they were talking about, bahala na kung anong ibigsabihin nila ro'n.

Pagkabalik ko sa area ko sa area ay naabutan kong kakalabas lamang ni Miss Sienna sa loob ng office ni Sir Macek. Agad naman niya akong nilapitan.

"Good you're here," she said. "Sir Macek told me he won't be able to meet you at this moment and forward. Don't worry, it's just today. He also cancelled all his meetings today."

"Oh, okay... I understand. What he would be doing then?"

"I'm not sure, but he mentioned he'll be talking with his parents. I guess, he just wanted to take all his time."

"I see." Pagtango ko pa. "Not a problem for me, Miss Sienna."

"Good to know that," she said. "And if you think you're finally done with your tasks today, you can go now. Just like what I said, he won't be meeting you after this so you can just go."

Tumango muli ako. "Yes, miss. Thank you so much."

"No worries, Miss Gillespie. You'll be fine. I should go back to my work then," she said and turned her back from me.

Bumalik na rin naman ako sa desk ko at sinimulan nang ituon ang atensyon ko sa tasks ko. Pahapyawan ko namang tiningnan ang oras at isang oras na lang din naman ang gugugulin ko at makakauwi na rin ako.

An hour later, I was able to finish my task today and honestly, I guess this was the easiest part of my tasks dahil mostly ay paper works pa lang din naman ang ginagawa ko. Nagpaalam naman ako kay Miss Sienna, but she won't be leaving as well if Sir Macek said so.

I've received a message from Berk na naghihintay na siya sa akin sa may elevator kaya dali-dali na rin akong tumungo ro'n. Nakita ko naman siyang nakatungo sa kanyang phone pero nang makalapit na ako sa kanya ay ibinulsa niya ang kanyang phone at binungaran ako ng ngiti.

"Ready to go?"

I nodded. "Of course."

"And what's that?" pagtukoy niya sa hawak kong paper bag.

"Oh, it's take away from our lunch earlier. I just hope it won't go back when I came home. I'll just reheat it anyway so I don't have to buy something else. This will save me."

"That's good," aniya. "But I was just thinking if we can eat out somewhere 'cause I know a place you'll think be good for you. But that's okay. We can always do that next time and you just had your first week so you'll be having a lot of time, right?"

"Right, but why don't you join with me at my flat and have a dinner together?"

"Are you sure?" he asked, arching his brow. Mabilis naman akong tumango sa kanya. "I'll absolutely fine with that, KC. Are we leaving now?"

Tumango na lamang ako sa kanya at hinintay naming bumukas ang elevator. As soon as the elevator opened its door ay pinauna naman akong papasukin sa loob ni Berk saka siya sumunod. Then from where I stood, I saw someone who was looking at me. His hands were on his pockets and it's like he was watching me. Nakatitig din ako sa kanya hangga't sa tuluyang sumara ang door at naagaw ni Berkeley ang atensyon ko.

What Sir Macek was doing there?

"Are you okay?" Berk asked me. Muli naman akong tumango sa kanya. Hindi ko lang maalis sa isipan ko 'yong mukha ni Sir Macek dahil ang seryoso nito at 'yong tindig ng pagkakatayo niya ay parang minamanmanan niya ang bawat galaw ko.

While the elevator's heading downstair, I tried to send a message to Sir Macek. He got my phone number from my CV so basically, I thought at first he stalked me, assuming naman ako ro'n.

Hi sir! Sorry I left without saying a word to you. But I've finished my tasks today. Thank you!

And on a quick second, I've received a reply from him.

That's alright. You're leaving with Berk?

Yes sir. I replied.

And I was expecting another reply from him, but then it didn't happen.

Nang makalapag na rin naman ang elevator sa first floor ay tumuloy na kami palabas ng building. Tinanong ko rin sa kanya kung nasaan na si Arden at ang sagot niya sa akin ay nauna na itong umuwi. Sinusundo raw kasi ng jowa, e may sasakyan kaya gorang-gora na.

"Kiersten!" Pagkalabas pa lamang namin ng building ay may tumawag na kaagad sa akin. Sabay naman kaming napalingon ni Berk sa babaeng tumawag sa akin. Nakita naman namin si Amanda na tumakbo papalapit sa amin. Not really a takbo, maarteng takbo iyong ginagawa niya kaya napakamot na lang si Berk sa ulo niya. "I've been waiting for you!"

Hinawakan pa nito ang magkabilang kamay ko. Napakunot na lamang ang noo ko kasabay ng labis na pagtataka.

"Uh... why were you waiting for you?"

"Because you're the only one I know here," she said, rolling her eyes. "And you didn't tell me you were with the CEO earlier. I just got a word from my mentor that I'll be sitting behind the desk for the rest of the week because Connagh just called me out to my mentor. That's bullshit, you know?"

"You're an intern?" pagpasok naman ni Berk sa usapan. Hinarap naman siya ni Amanda at tumango. "I think if you don't want to get called out, you should be respectful of who you were talking to."

"And who are you?"

"I'm Ber—"

Amanda motioned her hand, rejecting him. "Don't care anyway."

Berkeley pressed his lips together at nanahimik na lamang siya sa tabi ko. Hindi ko naman alam kung paano tatakasan itong babaeng ito 'cause I felt like she brought too much disaster.

"Why are you waiting for me, Amanda?"

"Do you want to go out with me?" she asked.

Umiling ako. "I'm sorry, but I and Berkeley were going home now. Maybe we can do that another time. I promise, Amanda."

She grunted, rolling her eyes. "Fine, I'll go ouy by myself. Is he your boyfriend? Girl, have a better standards."

"Oh, I think we're leaving now," pagputol ni Berkeley at kinuha niya ang kamay ko at saka hinatak na niya ako papalayo kay Amanda.

Sumigaw naman si Amanda na next time ay lalabas kaming dalawa dahil nag-promise ako sa kanya. I immediately regretted that decision. Pansin ko rin naman kay Berkeley na sobrang iritado siya kay Amanda.

"Sorry for that," ngiwi ko pa.

He smirked. "She pissed me off so bad."

"Yeah... she was too confident of herself and it's gotten bad."

"And she's an intern and she shouldn't be doing that. Good for her, Sir Connagh didn't lay her off from the company. She just ruined her reputation. She's not my type anyway."

"Oh, really? What's your type then?"

"Hm... are we going to talk about this now, KC?"

I laughed. "Well, I'm just trying to lighten the mood so I guess the answer would be yes."

He chuckled and scratches the side of his head. "I don't know... but what do you think Amanda said? If you think, just look at this like you like me. Am I enough or not enough with the standards Amanda was talking about?" His brow arches as if he really wanted an answer from.

"I don't know much more from you, Berk, but I believe Amanda was wrong. You're enough and the way you helped me some kind of traits I was looking for a man. You're gorgeous, Berk. Don't mind what she said. She was so full of herself."

"Is that true, KC?"

I nodded furiously. "Don't you believe it?"

"Of course, I believe it!" he laughed. "Thanks though. I really appreciate it."

"You're welcome. And you don't always to lean on what other people say to you. You know yourself better than them and their words. To tell you the truth, Amanda made me really uncomfortable the way she acted towards me."

"You can report her to the HR if you want, or just tell your mentor about it."

"Let's see, but I hope it won't reached up to that point."

"I agree," Berk said, nodding his head. "If she kept that kind of attitude, I wonder what will happen next."

"Well, let's hope for better she said," I laughed, Berk laughed at my joke, too. Akala ko corny na e.

Berkeley and I headed to the bus station and after a few moments of waiting for the bus, we head inside together and sit just near the front para mabilis kaming makababa. He told me that if I'm available this weekend, he would tour me around pero sinabi ko rin agad sa kanya na nakapag-promise na ako kay Tita Gina na ilalaan namin 'yong weekends para makapagbonding so he thought maybe some time we could if there's a holiday or something off from work, pumayag naman ako kasi why not 'di ba?

When we finally reached our place, isinama ko na naman si Berkeley sa kwarto ko. Some would say na ang kaladkarin kong babae dahil may idinadala akong lalaki sa room ko, but Berk's a good person so I don't think he will be doing something wrong at saka we'll just have dinner together at wala namang masama ro'n.

Nang makapasok kami sa loob ay umikot agad ang tingin ni Berkeley sa paligid ng room ko.

"This wasn't bad at all," he commented. "I mean, it really looked like my room, but yeah, this is cool, right?"

I nodded. "Yup, and thanks to my sponsors who took care of it."

"You might have an elegant sponsor," ngisi pa nito.

"Sure they are," aniko. "Anyway, you can just seat anywhere you want and I'll just reheat the food and prepare it for us, okay?"

"I'll be right around here, KC."

My room was normally a size of a two people living together. It has a spacious living room then a room for the bedroom, then the kitchen and the bathroom. It was enough for me as I was the only one living in this room and just like what Berk said, this was cool so I couldn't asked for more.

It only took me a few minutes before I finished reheating all the take away foods from our lunch earlier. Tinawag ko naman si Berk, but he didn't respond to me so I check him out and found him looking at the frames I placed on the shelves. Nang mapansin naman niya ang presensya ko ay nilingon niya ako at tinuro niya ang picture frame ro'n.

"Is this you and your family?" he asked and then I stood beside him. I nodded staring at the same thing he does. "They looked lovely."

"They are," ngiti ko pa. "Even though I left last week, I already missed them a lot."

"Sure they are as well," he said. "I'm also sure they're proud of you."

"I hope they are, this is my dream."

"And here you are living in it. Make them proud, KC."

"That's what I'm going to do," aniko kasabay ng malalim na paghugot ng hininga saka ko ito pinakawalan ng may ngiti sa labi. "Let's get to dinner?"

Berkeley and I shared the table together. Maliit lang naman ang table na dalawang tao lang din ang magkakasya magkabilaan. Mabuti na lang ay hindi rin choosy si Berkeley at kinakain niya ang nakahain kahit ininit ko lang galing kanina sa lunch namin ni Sir Macek.

"This is great, KC. I think this was one of the best Italian dishes I had and I don't care if it's a take away food. It taste like the same so who cares, right?" he laughed. "So, KC? You're not pressured that Sir Connagh is your mentor?"

"I am pressured and I'm always shaking when he talked to me. Though I think he's nice and kind so I don't have to worry about getting drilled up. He didn't put a lot of works on my hand. And he's a good person, he has a lot of advices."

"He does," he commented. "Do you like him?"

Napakunot-noo naman ako sa tanong niya, then I laughed it off. "Why would you asked that?"

"No, I'm serious. He's a good looking guy. I've heard many girls were really after him, so what do you think of him?"

Napakibit-balikat naman ako. "I agree that he's a good looking guy. He's charming and kind of intimidating. He's a nice person so I won't be shocked if there were a lot of girls like him. He's rich and a gentleman. He's one of the many girls could've asked for."

"Do you?"

I smirked and shook my head. "Sir Macek is just my mentor and I won't go beyond that. I might admire him for his intelligence and all, but going down the hole of wanting him is out of my hand. I would never go beyond that line."

"Maybe not now," ngisi pa nito. "Anyway, are you a fan of superheroes?"

Umiling ako. "Not really, why?'

"You should watch The Flash. Maybe we can watch it together after our dinner, what do you think?"

I shrugged off.

"Just watch one episode," pagpupumilit niya saka pumayag ako. "Yes! You'll love it, KC. I'm telling you."

I giggled. "You're suck a dork, Berk. Oooh! That rhymed a bit."

We both laughed to it and we just simply just get along with that. After our dinner, he insisted to help me washing the dishes so after we finished it then we proceed watching the show he told me. We spend almost an hour watching the first episode and he was so hyped about it, but then I couldn't get along with it so he would try to make me watch the second episode next time if we hang out together like this again.

I was alone in my room by seven when Berkeley went back to his room. Everything was fine for me now. Maybe I'm still adjusting to everything, but I'm getting the hang of it. Mabuti na lang ay nandiyan ang mga bago kong kaibigan upang hindi ako mahirapan and Berkeley was there for me.

When I was about to sleep and set up my alarm, I received my notification on Instagram.

Connagh Macek followed you.

And when I checked it, he wasn't following me. Did he just made a mistake of following me or not? And why was he on my profile?
