"Wear something light on the inside then cover it up with a dark jacket." Chase quietly suggested as I rummaged over my closet looking for a shirt.
A few minutes earlier, I somehow managed to finish my math homework. Thanks to Chase for helping me with it which also led me to one reason why I wholeheartedly agreed to his request. Note the sarcasm.
"What was the light shirt for, if you're covering it up with a dark jacket anyways?" I whispered.
"Just in case." Chase stated while tapping on his phone.
Tp-ing? Never done it, and never planned to, but here I am now. Johnny Bravo did this once, but would he really do it if he controls his own life, and not in the hands of an artist?
"I'm done." I faintly spoke after tying my shoes up.
"Just in time. Come on." Chase said, after he latched my bedroom door and rushed through the window. He jumped over the tree and swiftly climbed down, leaving me behind.
Wow. I thought, That looks easy.
I shrugged before reaching for the branch, and jumping from the window. Yes, I was afraid of heights but it was too late when I remembered it. The tree danced, and like a cat, I hugged the branch tightly.
Bad move. Darn it, genius. How are you gonna get down now, huh?
Chase motioned me to come down but his language somehow told me to jump, which I did. I held on to the other branch and stood with my trembling knees.
Come on, Nikki. Be brave. Jump!
I closed my eyes but the wind approached me, making me lose my balance, gaining me access to the ground. A cracking branch sounded, along with a quick sharp shrill slipping out from my mouth. Thankfully, I still managed to lower the tone after a short second before hitting the ground with a faint thud. It was only a short fall after all, and luckily Chase caught me looking like a water bed on the dry land.
"I should tell you.." I breathe heavily,
Chase continued before I even did, "Yes, you're afraid of some heights."
"Hey, that's tall. It counts." I protested, standing up on my feet.
"Did I say, it isn't?" Chase countered back, making me frown.
"You somehow did." I hissed,
"No." He simply spoke while I rolled my eyes. Chase sighed, "Alright, let's go. We should hurry though. They're probably waiting for us now." He added, walking towards a black Jeep, parked across our house.
He went inside and started the ignition. I pulled the door open only to see dozens of toilet papers in stacks sitting proudly on the passenger's seat.
"Let me just get rid of those." Chase offered, throwing them somewhere in the back of his car.
I went inside when I had a space to sit in and glimpsed at every toilet papers there was to see.
This guy is so unorganized.
"So, where are we heading?" I asked, looking away from the back as I adjusted my seatbelt.
"I don't know." Chase answered, before releasing the hand brake.
HE.DON'T.KNOW. I stared at him with my jaw slacked.
"But Nathan does. I'm just waiting for the address." Chase added before hitting the gas in a low run.
Oh. I just nodded then silent follows. I knew that silence was my solace, I could use a hot chocolate with six marshmallows right now, but this kind of awkward silence has no menu to serve. Again, Chase's presence never was my liking, but I already adopted to it for the past few days, and the thing that makes me uneasy now was his new character.
It was almost one thirty in the morning and we were at some street, sneaking closer on our target house.
Nathan's little brother Nash was being bullied by a boy who was four years older than him for a month now so Nathan, being the big brother he was, asked Nash the address of the bully to prank him and most of all give Nash a big head's up.
"Can't believe I had agreed upon causing a havoc." I mumbled as I tip toed behind a bush.
Nathan and Nash leads the way while Chase snuck behind my back with Scott on the tail end.
"Well, you're being a bad girl, aren't you?" Chase chuckled before I nudged him on his chest with my elbows.
He yelped, and crunched up his face. "Oww... You seriously should learn how to stop doing that."
"We're here." Nash spoke in manly manner but with a small nine year old voice.
My eyes trailed towards the dark house. It was a simple one-storied structure with brick walls and a slate roof. Aside from the dim glow from a room through a window, a lamppost was another source of light on the area.
"Have you guys checked if this place surrounding us has no security cameras?" I asked, hiding back at the bush.
"Actually, no." Scott answered, scrutinizing the whole area for camera appearances.
I muttered lowering my head. "How fantastic is that?"
"Guys, don't worry I've got it all covered up..." Nathan assured,
"My cousin Greg lives around here, and he said the only house who has active cameras is at the corner end of this street. So all we have to do is, most probably avoid going there." He added, taking a stack of toilet papers from Nash's bag. "Now, let's do this."
Chase, Scott, Nathan and Nash huddled up on the pile of toilet papers while I stood there watching them. It wasn't long until I realized that maybe, Chase asked me to go so I could scan the surroundings for any human appearances while they mummified the house.
"Don't worry, guys. I got your back. Just know that if someone saw us, I'll turn you over to the cops, immediately." I muttered to myself, folding my arms to my chest.
Chase was the first one to throw a toilet paper on the tree, he pulled a long arm's length of it and grasped the end firmly with his non-throwing hand while the other hand held the roll itself. He flexed his arms back, and perfectly threw the toilet paper on top of the tree letting it roll downwards.
Scott aimed for the front porch while Nathan and Nash went for the car and fences. The dark house was beginning to wrap up with white as the guys did another round. Suddenly, Chase came up to me handing me a toilet paper.
"You're just gonna watch?" Chase smirked, handing me a toilet paper.
I smiled before I averted my gaze from him to glance at the other guys swiftly throwing the rolls ninja-like. "Yeah, I plan to."
"And I'm here to ruin that plan. Come on, I took you here, so let me teach you how." He proposed, flashing a pure smile that was hard to defy.
Before I could speak a word, Chase went behind me, and extended both of his arms to mine.
"Throwing toilet paper rolls isn't much as hard as you think it is... Take playing football an epitome."
I rolled my eyes, and mumbled. "Yeah, well. I don't play basketball so..."
"It's football." He pointed out.
"Neither. I wasn't referring to you, and your sport..." I continued to argue with him.
Chase smirked, "Okay, so it's basketball, and football then."
"Now, hold this tight." He instructed, gripping my arms to the end with the toilet paper on my right hand.
Chase thought it was cool and simple but my innards were going insane. Above everything else, the effect when my skin met his was too bizarre for me to handle. The face I put up was something I couldn't paint on my own. I merely looked like a lost fish on the desert. My lungs were taking over every air I could possibly breathe in. However, the air itself made a limit.
I suddenly snapped out from the haze when Chase trailed my right hand back on the top my head, and guided me to cock it for a throw.
"You do know how to throw things, right?" His breathing fanned near my ear while he let out a mischievous chuckle.
I grumbled at his superiority and arrogance, and then snorted a laugh back but not tilting my head as it could be a bad move because of the proximity between us. "You know what? If you're just going to brag of how good you are at throwing stuffs, then congratulations. I have my own talent, and I don't think this is one of them."
"And that's why I'm teaching you. Now, let it roll off your fingertips when you throw it on your target. Okay?" He instructed, letting go of my arms.
Why does he have to do that? I got carried away so fast. This is wrong. I thought, biting my lip and focusing on my target instead.
Wait, what did he say? Roll my what?
My conscience spiked out of its tomb and spoke, Drat! Don't be such an idiot! Throw it!
I breathed in and out but only to lock eye contact with Chase, again. His orbs shone with the lambent moon and his lips pulled out an entoiling smirk.
Conscience? How do I do it again?
Chase motioned his hand before us, and said. "Go for the tree."
I looked at a one tree in front of the house, and hoped for a good aim. Swinging my arms back, I threw it just like how Chase demonstrated it to me. The toilet roll, flew with my hopes and prayers. To my embarrassment, it landed straight to the bottom of it. My mouth fell down as the stupid thing rolled away, mockingly.
Chase let out a low whistle, and took a step beside me. "Well, aiming for the grass is not a bad idea. I just thought you could pick a little, I don't know, bigger or higher perhaps?"
"Okay, let me just wrap the bushes." I grumbled, and dragged my way to get another roll.
They all started working like intricate spiders, going back through branches between multiple trees, sending a roll flying above the roof of the house and covering the car while I worked with Nash on wrapping the other plants on pots after the bushes.
The dawn would be starting in a few hours and we were walking our way to where we parked the cars. My slumberous soul already left after ignoring it with the sudden activity, and I was afraid I wouldn't be having a sleep before school.
"Nathan, do you think Shaggy will figure what we did?" Nash asked his older brother Nathan, who walked with him on his side.
Nathan shook his head, and patted Nash on the back. "I assure you, he won't."
They were sibling goals, I always admired brothers and sisters being close to each other. Funny thing, when I was little I remembered asking my parents for a baby sister. Unfortunately, I never had it.
"So, wanna do that again? Try another big throw?" Chase asked, while he jogs towards me.
"When pigs fly." I spoke, rolling my eyes.
He chuckled, "That's not so bad."
"Hey guys, let's get rid off our jackets." Nathan suggested, stopping on his tracks.
We went into a dark and malodorous alley, and then quickly took off our jackets, shoving them inside Nash's bag whom Scott carried for the meantime. We went back on the road, thereafter, almost wanting to crawl myself on my knees.
Home, please come to me.
