Rift's POV

I open my mouth so he could feed me. I am practically a red tomato by now. Ugh! Stupid human feelings! I was never this way back home! Home..... I miss everyone so much. I at least want to know if they are alive NOW. Laurence clearly aware of my sad eyes tries to comfort me as he puts the spoon in my mouth.

"Rift? Are you ok? Do you want to talk about it? Whatever's bothering you you can talk to me about. No one else has to know." Laurence reassures me.

"Is he serious right now?! How full of crap is this guy?! I swear-" Ethan who is clearly upset starts off before I cut him off.

"That you will shut your brain up and let ME handle the situation." I finish his statement for him. Then I go to answer Laurence. "Sorry Laurence I just.....don't want to burden anyone with my past. It's too painful to even think about much less talk about."

"I understand. Just know I'm here for you. Always." Laurence says smiling to me.

Please don't say things like that. I don't want to get attached to anyone. They always get hurt. The ones I love or who are just in my life are always getting hurt. Your too kind to me. I don't want you to be hurt by my past. "No. It's my burden because it's all MY fault! I hurt everyone that I cared about and now they're not here! I just want to go home, but it's not there anymore! I want all of this to be a dream! I hate myself because I was the one who put them in danger, then I couldn't save them!" I say loudly with tears streaming down my face.

"Now Rift, I don't think you are responsible for what happened. I don't know what happened, but I think you are just being hard on yourself. I'm sorry to have let that happen to you. But now you DO have a home here. In Phoenix Drop. The people here care about you and I'm one of them." Laurence says as he hugs me to comfort me. He wipes away my tears and I just replace them with new ones.

"Rift........none of the attack had to with you. No one blames you for what happened. You HAD to run because so many people don't want you more hurt than you already are. We all care about you Rift. More than you notice." As Ethan's words enter my mind I just cry harder. Now my face is practically drenched.

"C-can I-I g-go o-outside p-please?" I ask in between sobs.

"If that is what you wish. I'll take you there. Come on." Laurence then picks me up and carries me to a giant tree.

To be honest it looks like one of his trees. My good friend-

"We'll do you like it? It's a sacred oak tree. Lady Aphmau planted it." Laurence asks as he sets me down.

"It's beautiful! And familiar. It reminds me of a place back home I was at a lot." I say in awe of its size.

"O-oh! Do you want to go somewhere else then?" Laurence asks clearly distressed.

I chuckle at him and his reaction. "No the place I'm talking about holds a lot of fond memories. They always cheer me up. The happy memories. They're better than the sad memories." By now Ethan had to escape from the house. That's good at least. Then all of a sudden a branch almost falls on Laurence's head! Thanks to my amazingly amazing reflexes I push him out of the way before it lands. What? Could it be? No way! Hehe! Is he jealous? Really? It had to of been him. The thought of it almost made me laugh out loud, but Laurence would have thought I was crazy, so I kept my composure. "What was that?! That could've killed you!" I say like I was surprised. I am the best actor ever!

"You're right, that would've killed me. However you saved my life. I am forever in your debt m'lady." Laurence says while doing a silly bow.

"Haha! Really?! That's all I get? One measly bow? Next time I save your life I want a better prize." I sarcastically say. I hope there isn't a next time though.

"Like what? A kiss from a prince perhaps? Well you best be prepared for the next time you do save my life. I won't hold back." Laurence retorts teasingly.

I'll go along with this. Just for fun. Maybe he'll get even more jealous than he already is! "Oh I'll be ready. You're the one who better prepare. I can take it all and then some." I mockingly say.

"Is that so?!"

"That is so!"

"Huh then you better be ready for this!"

Laurence picks me up by the waist and spins me around. "Laurence stop! I'm getting dizzy!" I say in between laughter. Laurence just laughs and keeps spinning me, and before I know it, I'm on the ground, with Laurence ON TOP of me. I'm now blushing a bright red. With Laurence almost the same shade. "Huh. I didn't know the great Casanova could blush." I say teasingly, trying to lighten the mood.

"And you have a HUGE right to say that don't you?" Laurence sarcastically retorts.

"Touché. How did we end up like this, anyways?" I ask genuinely confused.

"I tripped on some grass."

"Way to go, you ballerina."

"Hey! You would've made the same mistake!"

"Would not."

"Would to."

"Not."

"Yeah."

We kept going back and forth like that for a while.

(While Laurence and Rift were bickering, little did they know they were being watched.)

???'s POV

Wait what?! That was to break them apart not bring them closer! Ugh! I'm horrible at this sabotage thing. Ethan would've set them on fire, but no I can't do that. Why am I so limited? Ugh! I'm a failure! I know she knows it's me now. Only a while longer until we are reunited. Wait just a little longer Rift, I'm coming. As that thought ends I'm already headed her way.

I'm coming and nothing will stop me from being the one who will protect you.
