Falling Hard - 16
Melody's POV
The Uber pulls up to a private gate with a booth on the side. A security guard steps out of the booth and looks into the car. "Can I help you?" he asks.
Rolling down the window, I look at the security guard. "My name is Keegan Jennings. The Westbrooks are expecting me."
He looks at the paper in his hand and then back at me. "Sorry, Miss. You're name isn't on here. I can't allow you inside."
Are you kidding me? Why isn't my name on the list?
"Can you call him? He must have forgotten to add me to it." I crane my neck and look at the hanger close to me.
There's a limousine parked close to the hangar, and the driver is talking to a tall male in a suit and sunglasses.
The Guard taps on the car. "You need to leave. Don't come back unless you are on the list." He walks away and steps into the booth.
Dewayne looks at me through the rearview mirror. "What do you want me to do, Miss?"
"Wait here. I'm going to give Mr. Westbrook a call." I called his number and waited for him to pick up.
The guy in a suit puts his hand in his pocket and pulls it out. He says something to the driver before walking away from him.
Hunter: Hello, this is Hunter.
Me: Mr. Westbrook. It's Keegan. I'm at the gate.
He looks at the gate, where the car is stopped.
Hunter: Shit! I forgot to tell Percy that you're coming with us. Give me a few minutes, and I'll ask him to let you in.
How could he forget?
Me: That's fine. I'll wait a little longer. Please do not take too long, as I need to use the restroom before we leave.
Hunter: I will see you soon, Keegan.
He hangs up and makes a call to the guy in the booth.
The guard pulls open the barriers, allowing us into the airfield.
Dewayne drives to the hangar, and once we're in front of it, he parks the car and then steps out. Rounding the car, he opens the door for me. "Have a good trip, Miss." He pulls my bags out of the trunk.
"Thanks," I say, taking the bags. I walk into the hanger and stop in front of the most gorgeous man I've ever seen. He's 6'2 ", has brown eyes, brown hair, and tanned skin. A tattoo shows underneath the cuff of the suit he's wearing.
Hunter watches me closely as I move around the hangar. "The toilets are in the back. I'll get the bags on board for you."
"Thanks, Mr. Westbrook." I pick up my carry-on bag and take it to the restroom.
I don't want him to put all my things away. I'm going to need this for the plane ride.
A woman with dark hair and eyes steps out of the restroom. Her eyes land on me. She holds her hand out. "Hi, I'm Suri."
Taking her hand, I say. "I'm Keegan. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"He's going to be in trouble." She mutters before walking over to her brother.
Walking into the restroom, I do my business, and once I'm done, I wash my hands and leave the restroom. When I get close to the plane, there are three more people with Mr. Westbrook and Miss Westbrook.
I think they might be his siblings, too.
Hunter looks at the group and says. "Suri, Luna, Ayden, Mike. I would like you to meet Keegan Jennings. Keegan, I want you to meet my siblings and my sister's boyfriend. Suri, Luna, Ayden and Mike."
"What's up?" The last guy says.
I think he's one of the sisters' boyfriends.
The brother has a frown on his face as he looks at his older brother. "Hunter, when do we invite the help to join us on the plane?"
So, this isn't something they do all the time. Why would Hunter bend the rules for me?
Hunter ignores his brother. "We should board the plane if we want to leave on time." He climbs the steps without waiting for anyone else."
Suri looks at me, then whispers to her brother. "I bet a thousand bucks that Hunter will break the rules within the week.
I can't believe they would put a bet on how long it would take for someone to break the rules.
Ayden smiles at her. "You're on. I give it 24 hrs and she'll be begging for him to bed her."
Seriously, what's his problem with me? I haven't done anything.
The siblings and boyfriend board the plane, and I slowly follow them. Once on the plane, I take a seat at the back and pull a notepad out of my bag. At the bottom of the bag, I find a pen.
I'll need this to write a new song.
I've found my inspiration, and now I hope that nothing happens to break me away from it.
The pilot welcomes us onboard, and then we watch the demonstration before the plane makes its way down the runway and takes off.
Hunter is sitting in front of me, wearing earphones. His eyes are closed, but as I watch him, they open, and he turns towards me. "Is everything okay, Keegan?"
"Yeah," I tear my eyes away from him. "I was wondering what song you were listening to?"
He smiles at me. "Do you want to listen?"
"Sure," I take the earbud from him and place it in my ear. A smile spreads as I listen to one of my songs. "Are you a fan of Melody Stryker?"
He places his finger to his lips. "Don't tell my sister. She would scream the plane down if she heard that her excessive playing of these songs has made me like the artist."
"Your secret is safe with me." I give him back the earbud. I'll let you listen to my playlist in a couple of days. I'm sure you'll enjoy that." I wink at him before pulling down the table and putting the book on it.
You're not what I expected to find,
When I left home,
Am I ready for you?
No, I'm not.
There's nothing that I can do about that,
Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith,
And see where you fall,
I hope you can catch me.
I'm not ready for you,
I'm not sure if I ever will be,
So hold on tight,
Let's see where things go from here.
You blew me away,
With the choice of songs you listen to,
I shouldn't be surprised by it,
As we're strangers who have been put together.
I took a job,
To help me get over a heartbreak,
And I think I might get another,
As I can feel something sizzling between us.
I'm not ready for you,
I'm not sure if I ever will be,
So hold on tight,
Let's see where things go from here.
I take a breath,
Trying to get my feelings under control,
If I can't do that,
I don't know where I'll end up.
My heart races,
As your face comes to view,
My hands try to reach out to you,
But you're too far away.
I'm not ready for you,
I'm not sure if I ever will be,
So hold on tight,
Let's see where things go from here.
I close my eyes,
Hoping that something happens,
But it doesn't,
As I'm standing here alone.
Once again, I'm alone,
Wishing for you to notice me,
I think you do,
But you're not ready to take a risk on me.
I'm not ready for you,
I'm not sure if I ever will be,
So hold on tight,
Let's see where things go from here.
Once I've finished writing, I put the book away and look around at the people on the plane. I saw Suri sitting across from me.
She smiles at me. "What were you writing in the book? You looked in the zone during that brief moment."
When I start writing, something takes over my body, and I forget where I am.
"Ah, I was just writing in my journal. There are things in my life that I don't like to forget, and being here with all of you should be written about."
She stands up and moves over to the vacant chair next to mine. "I think we're going to be good friends."
"We'll see, Suri." I turn away from her and look out the window.
